It isn't entirely unexpected, as he'd been ill and fighting it for a long time, but it is sad. He was a really decent, honest, kind man and my dad's best buddy who saw him through his illness and helped me and my brother sort through having to bury Dad all alone as our mom had passed many years before that. Now his kids are reeling through the loss of their dad, and my heart is aching for them, and also for my aunt. He was her best friend.
