  1. My favorite TR biography is 'Mornings on Horseback' http://www.amazon.com/Mornings-Horseback-Extraordinary-Vanished-Roosevelt/dp/0671447548/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1412302156&sr=1-1&keywords=mornings+on+horseback (He's the one who wrote the great John Adams bio that HBO turned into a great miniseries.) There's also a mini series the boys and I watched called 'The Rough Riders' about TR - http://www.amazon.com/Rough-Riders-Tom-Berenger/dp/B000EOTUSA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1412302319&sr=8-2&keywords=The+rough+riders I think anything Ken Burns does is great. I loved this miniseries too. I never understood why FDR was almost revered by my elders before watching it. I thought it was a pretty fairly balanced look at him and I felt awful for Eleanor - the way he treated her in this marriage - but greatly respected how she rose above it to be her own person and accomplish her own goals.
  2. It was probably a middle of the night glitch because it's fine now. :)
  3. I've tried since my last visit, 24 hours, a week, etc. Says no new content found though of course there is. Thanks
  4. I only had one picture I posted - of a famous horse - that I could find and I deleted it. The rest were embedded Youtube videos but if someone finds something report it or let me know and I'll get it ASAP. Sorry you are dealing with this Susan. The avatar is me - circa 1985. I paid a pretty penny for those pictures as a HS senior and Olan Mills is free to contact me. Believe it or not - my grandmother SAVED the receipt and I still have it. It was in her belongings when she passed.
  5. :grouphug: Rosie, I'm so very sorry.
  6. You can use different SOS grade levels - each subject has its own grade level. You can buy the complete grade year or subject by subject. Like Fourth grade everything else but third grade Math. Teaching Textbooks could work for math - it's really worked with my kid that struggles with math. Good to 'see' you again. :)
  7. I can from the BCBS rate quote - https://www.bcbsnc.com/assets/shopper/public/quote/#/ Just enter your info and it will give you some plans. Once you select one on the left hand side it will say 'Find a Doctor'. I did a search from there.
  8. In NC you can but that's mainly due to only BCBS being the only provider in the exchange. I was able to check that DH's dr was taking the plan we wound up selecting. There were notes as to 2013 and 2014 and the plans they accepted. Some were at a higher co-pay depending on the plan but it was like a $5 difference. I had honestly given up all hope until I was put in touch with an agent. It's worth trying to find one to help you through this mess. If you're in NC shoot me a PM and I'll send you the info on the one I know. He could make a referral if he couldn't help.
  9. My agent went through the exchange, spoke with people at Healtcare.gov and gave them all our information. They said we qualified for a subsidy. He proceeded with the application based on what Healthcare.gov told him via phone. No, the cost of the coverage for DH alone is over 9.5 percent of his gross and that's with the employer picking up 50 percent. My husband is 61 - that makes his rate very high.
  10. Our agent said if it was more than 9 percent (or close to that) for employer based insurance then we became eligible for the subsidy. It is my understanding he got that information directly through the Marketplace (they were on hold for two plus hours to get said information). DH was laid off in July and now works for a much smaller employer. The coverage offered through this employer was 1500 a month - for just DH and me. He makes less than 30 K per year - salaried. The boys are covered through Medicaid - SSI. I had already applied and was turned down for Medicaid before finding this agent. It took a week before the website stayed up long enough for him to get our information entered and this was in the past two weeks.
  11. Wood smoke takes me back to my grandparent's house. When I smell it I can hear the screen door slamming as yet another one came through the door. They had 13 kids - my Dad was one - and their house was always full to bursting with people and love. I love the smell of gardenias too. There are many smells that take me back but wood smoke is the strongest.
  12. My UO of the day is that... I hate and despise Windows 8. Then when I finally got used to it and the boys found ways to work around it - they upgraded it to 8.1! Nothing is working now and we had to roll the computer back to an earlier date. I'm making an appointment to have the tower reformatted after the holidays with Windows 7. This is the last straw. I love my Macs. Period.
  13. Not to mention it was privately funded and the budget for it is a fund of private donations. http://www.wwiimemorial.com/default.asp?page=funding.asp&subpage=intro I agree it was ridiculous to keep the Honor Flights out. These men and woman paid in blood. We owe it to them. And that's my UO of the day. (The Greatest Generation is one of my soapboxes. I believe we owe them a great deal more than we can ever repay. And that goes for Veterans of all 'engagements', but those in particular.)
  14. I have three of them and you're both spot on. My UO of the day is to people who have watched them grow up - know that DH and I consider it our responsibility to ensure our boys' issues do not create issues for other people - do not accuse us of being overprotective! We aren't being protective - we are being proactive. We do not tolerate actions that irritate or harm others. We are there to ensure that it either doesn't happen or we can handle it quickly. Can you tell I've had this discussion with our youth leaders recently? :sigh: I can't understand parents who don't even try and excuse it. Yes, autism is a reason - NEVER an excuse. Every person has issues and it's our responsibility to keep our issues from bothering others as much as possible. I don't think our issues are worse or better than others - they just look different.
  15. Miley looks like Bill the Cat from Bloom County these days. I expect her to start saying 'ACK' any minute now. I love Bloom County. It was one of the most intelligent cartoon strips ever. I'm not usually one for being bothered by song lyrics but 'Blurred Lines' does bother me.
  16. All I had was the Barbie RV and Swimming Pool. I really had trailer park trash Barbie!
  17. I can't stand Bruce Springsteen. Only his early stuff is good to me. I think the slow version of Layla is awful and should be outlawed. I hate bad sequels - Wayne's World 2, Terminator 3 and Rocky 5 do not exist in my universe. I love chocolate and peanut butter. I love golf but I cannot stand the sight of Tiger Woods. He's a petulant brat most of the time. And I thought that before the cheating on his wife. I love to watch sports but I'm extremely uncoordinated in that area. I wish I could go back in time and study to be a librarian. I love our library. It's my favorite place to go. I love General Hospital and seldom miss a day of it on my DVR. I started watching it with my late Grandmother when I was small. It was 'our' show. I was raised by an extremely rabid feminist and do not like to self associate with that word.
  18. Pantyhose are agents of Satan. Shoes are unnatural. I live in the south and suffer sinus issues because I hate to wear shoes so much. Dh would love to move to Nevada and I'm sure my sinuses would agree but it gets cold at night and I might have to wear shoes in the house. I hate church directory photos - especially when I realize I look like my mother. I hate gray, overcast days and snow and rain. If I must put up with that weather I want sparkly vampires to go with it. (Now I KNOW that's not a popular opinion) ;) I think mornings should be outlawed and morning people are not my people.
  19. This. I'm not just a SAHM. With three with very different special needs and homeschooling all three of them it's much more than that.
