Talk me down - Orthodontic work and pulling teeth

I had braces in the mid 80's. I had 8 baby teeth and 3 adult teeth pulled. I don't remember how many visits but it wasn't more than 3. My son just had 3 baby teeth pulled 4 months ago. They pulled it all at one time. His adult teeth that were not coming in because of the baby teeth were in within 2-3 weeks. He just got his braces on 2 weeks ago. FWIW, my brother had his last baby tooth pulled out at 16. And my oldest lost all of his baby teeth by the time he was 10. There is a wide range of normal.
  3. I like to use vintage or antique toys - a little riding horse, alphabet blocks that spell out a sweet message. Many of my decorations are family heirlooms or wedding gifts (November wedding). But you don't have to spend lots of money. Some of my favorite decorations are sweet child-made snowflakes and paper chains, popcorn garlands with cranberries. I have cheap dollar store bulbs I put in a clear mixing bowl. Old cake plates or punch bowls filled with collected pine cones. Glass jars or mason jars filled with burned out Christmas lights or tiny ornaments. Stacks of Christmas or old books Table clothes can be folded and draped as pretty runners sprinkled with pine cones and dollar store ornaments We host an open house every year. It's so much fun! We have a chili bar and snacks with hot chocolate and cookies, of course. Sometimes we do a $10 or less gift exchange or play games. Our favorite game is putting 20 small items in a sock (10 for kids). Tie it off and hand out paper and pens. The sock makes its rounds and everyone must try to guess what is in the sock by feel only. :) I buy small prizes like a Christmas tea towel or candle for the adult winners, books, slinkies etc. for kids.

Is ''Nana'' the maternal or paternal grandmother?

My maternal gran was Nana. She was British and I always assumed that was why she was Nan. When I had children, my SIL already had children and they called my MIL "Nana". So my mom chose Mimi. They call my MIL Nana like their cousins.

    S/O - Grocery budgets.

Family of 4 with 2 teen boys, we spend $700-$800 a month, everything included. We buy fresh when at all possible, organic if it's cheap. I'm vegetarian. The rest of the crew are meat eaters. ;) We buy meat, cheese, some produce, paper products and some toiletries all at Costco. Today was shopping day. I paid $125. Included: Romaine 2 pounds carrots 10 # potatoes 2 # onions a few peppers 3 # peaches 3 # apples 6 bananas 1 head of broccoli 1.5 gal milk 1 gal OJ 1 gal AJ 1 16 oz sour cream 1 8 oz cream cheese 1 5 oz parm cheese 2 cans chick peas (I make my own hummus) 2 bags of chips (potato and tortilla) 18 bagels 6 pitas a loaf of whole grain bread hamburger buns 2 # pasta Ice cream frozen chicken frozen raviolis 1 take and bake pizza Pop a bottle of wine I shop at Walmart (I know, I know) and this is a typical week ,well except for the wine. I buy generic when I can and it doesn't affect the taste- pasta, canned veg and beans. I I've been adding about $10 a month for the last year as my boys begin to eat me out of house and home. My 12yo has grown 2 inches this summer alone. :D

The 2015 WTM Boards Cyber-Reunion: Now through October

What great memories I have of this board and all of the help I've received over the years. I'm not around much anymore. I lurk every once in awhile. I was on the old boards from about 2003 or so. I always felt so inadequate compared to the rock star mommas here. :tongue_smilie: I was Kalah for a long while before being able to change my name. I think I'm most memorable for having the boy who broke both arms at the same time. I remember some people saying they printed that picture out as a warning to their own kids. :thumbup1: My oldest, he of the broken arms, is in 10th grade at an online public school. He plans on dual enrolling next year. I was always so worried about how to engage him because he read so early (why I found WTM and homeschooled) and his social skills were horrifying. I'm happy to report that he is driven and responsible. His social skills are just fine and I shouldn't have spent so much time worrying about him. My youngest is in 7th grade. It's weird to only teach one, but I like it. He's a competitive archer and still as sweet as can be. Since 2010, I've been taking care of elderly folks. It started out just cleaning their houses because my husband was in the middle of a very long layoff. Now I'm making meals, grocery shopping, errands, etc. I never thought my life would take me in this direction, but I'm glad it did. I was meant for this. I know what I will be doing after the boys are grown. I think of these boards often and use phrases I've learned here too much. "The days are long; the years are short." "It's not a hill I want to die on." That last one so important with teens! "It's a marathon not a sprint." And of course, "Please pass the bean dip." It's been fun catching up with y'all. I feel like I've grown up with you and learned so much from you. I wouldn't be who I am today without the insight and support I've received here. :001_wub: Edited to add: My signature is sadly out of date. I've been married 21 years (we did have the total Vegas renewal for our 20th I used to talk about complete with Elvis) and my little rats are 15 and 12. ;)

Want to help with a fun poll?

I always think Bob Marley. I know the real answer, but there it is.

PSA: Jamberry nails are NOT all they're cracked up to be!!

So glad I didn't try them when my friend was having a FB party. They just seem so pricey to me. I work with my hands so I don't bother wearing anything and it seems like it would be a pain to do toes. I like to change my polish a lot. too. Glad I'm not missing anything!

  10. I have four. I got my first one at 25. My most recent was last winter (at 42). I've never chosen a tattoo on a whim. I adore them all. My only wish is that I could change the placement of one I put on my back. I never get to see it. They all have meaning: my heritage, my children, my marriage, and my parents. I have one more planned for my brother. They range in size from palm size to my newest which is a calf piece from knee to ankle.

    Best shoes for aching feet

I like Birks, also. My mom, who has a bad back, likes Clarks. I also like Teva sandals, but they might not give you enough support. I like them to work in though (cleaning houses).
