  1. Most depressing thread title ever. Sorry. I'd be grumpy too. :grouphug:
  2. I had a full-time job all the way through college (undergrad and grad school), and paid my own expenses. I took out student loans and paid them all off on my own (took me until my mid-30's to do so). My mom (single mom - dad was out of the picture) didn't pay for anything, nor did I expect her to. DH's parents didn't pay for any of his college expenses either. We're saving up money to help our kids with college, but that will be for tuition, room/board, and books. My current thinking is that they will need to get jobs to pay for anything beyond that.
  3. I second the Khan Academy suggestion. I've brushed up on some of my own math skills via Khan Academy. It's excellent (and free!). http://www.khanacademy.org
  4. Go to your profile (click on your name in the top right hand corner of your screen) Click on the "Edit my profile" button (black button on right side) Under "My Settings" click on "Display Name" Make your changes and click on "Save Changes" ETA: or do it Jen's way. Much quicker. :p
  5. I agree. I don't even think topics/threads should be rated. I'm sure all of us regularly come across topics here that don't interest us or even annoy or offend us. So what? The best response is to ignore and move on. Not provide a "rating".
  6. If schools around here closed for "the threat of snow", kids would have most of November-March off.
  7. I don't think you can. You can only star people once on their profile from what I can tell, but you can also rate threads they started which affects their rating as well.
  8. That's true here too. We take the snow in stride. School is more likely to get canceled for extreme cold. DD is attending PS this year, and school has been canceled a few times already. Not for snow (it was below 8" each time), but for near-zero/below zero temps.
  9. The map says I live in 24" country, but school gets canceled for a lot less than that around here.
  10. My people! :p I'm like this too, although I've gotten better at holding back the tears when I need to (e.g. at work). But yes, sappy commercials, heartwarming baby or puppy videos, feelgood FB posts, etc. - I can't help it. My go-to tricks are looking up (seems to stem the flow if you do it right away), biting my lip, and mental distraction. That said, it's a funeral. Let the tears flow. :grouphug:
  11. I just gave you 5 stars, so now your average is up to 4. :) I had 5 stars last I checked, but I must have ticked someone off too, because now I have 4. :001_rolleyes:
  12. Katie summed up the purpose well. I have a Twitter account, but haven't really used it much. However, I did find it extremely useful this past summer when we were evacuated for over a week during the Black Forest Fire. I followed our local sheriff on Twitter to get the latest updates from the command center.

    Thanks!

I had a kidney infection which was accompanied by severe vomiting, and was rehydrated by IV. I felt better after a few hours and they let me go after about 5-6 hours.
