SKL
I just picked out and ate all the hazelnuts in my can of mixed nuts, so I would actually enjoy the remainder of the can. Is there anyone here who likes hazelnuts?? Are they just filler? Are they super duper awesome nutritionally? I mean why??? I also do not love walnuts or pecans. But hazelnuts are like eating tree bark. What am I missing?
Terabith
Can't recall eating actual hazelnuts, but aren't they the base for nutella? I don't like nutella all that much, but when we were in Europe, there was a nutella ish spread that was much more hazelnutty, and I loved that. Innisfree
I love hazelnuts. Also pretty much every other sort of nut I've tried. I've been thinking about getting some hazelnut trees for the yard: only nut we have room for, other than a hickory which doesn't produce much.
Innisfree
Adding that nuts don't have time to go rancid here. We all love them. They're mostly an occasional treat, though.
alisoncooks
I like them! My DH isn't a fan of nuts, but hazelnuts are his favorite and he requests them.
marbel
Hazelnuts are the best! I love them. Too bad for me that they are so expensive here, and my daughter is allergic to them.
Loowit
I mostly only like them if they are covered in chocolate or in some sort of food. We don't keep nuts in the house though as DS is allergic to some so we avoid all of them.

Lady Florida.
I love hazelnuts. I'm not crazy about peanuts but those are usually the most plentiful (are the cheapest?) in a can of mixed nuts.
Selkie
Hazelnuts are my favorite. I have a huge bag of them in my freezer!.
kbutton
Yes, but they don't stay fresh that long. I also LOVE Brazil nuts. It was a happy day when I found them flying solo without a ton of salt outside their so-hard-to-open shells.
Kareni
I'm another who likes hazelnuts though I grew up calling them filberts. Regards, Kareni
Matryoshka
Hazelnuts are super-awesome delicious - especially with a bit of chocolate and sugar. Yes, they are the base of nutella (which for me has a too much sugar...), but dark chocolate with hazelnuts, or hazelnut-based sweets are the best.
Arcadia
Ferrero Rocher 😁 I like macadamia nuts more but I like hazelnuts.
lavender's green
I love hazelnuts, but I think they go rancid quickly. I prefer them straight from the shell, when they have a nice sweet flavor. I think when they're roasted and salted they lose some of their special qualities.
Carol in Cal.
I love them! Also, they are especially pretty in the shell for a Fall display/nut bowl with a cracker. Edited May 7, 2019 by Carol in Cal.

Monica_in_Switzerland
My kids love them and eat them raw off the trees in the neighborhood. In Sept-Oct, all the neighborhood kids are out all afternoon shaking trees and cracking nuts with rocks. It's sort of a sweet throwback to the good ol' days, actually. 🙂 I don't like them. My DH is allergic to them. They are in practically EVERYTHING here. Ugh. I buy separate nuts that I like, then mix them myself. lol.

Yes they are nutritious, and awesome for those of us who like them. But not if stale, over mature or unripe...

Farrar
Another vote in favor of hazelnuts. SOOOOOO good. I mean, especially in things like Nutella and other sweet concoctions, but I like them on their own as well.
MEmama
Love them. They are so sweet and yuuuuummmmmm. I buy them from TJs; a bag will disappear in days in our house. Filberts are hazel nuts. Oops, that's been covered. I am surprised how many people do not like walnuts...I think they are divine with dried tart cherries from Trader Joe's. I do not particularly care for nuts of any kind in a baked good, though for some reason, I am fine with them on top of baked goods or on top of frosting. Silly distinction, but I think maybe it's a texture thing. I like pecans, but they seem astringent when I eat very many. I like most nuts, lol! gardenmom5
yes - we eat hazlenuts. one of our most favorite desserts is based on hazelnuts. (chocolate Christmas tree hazelnut stump.) we dont' buy mixed nuts - but we will buy hazelnuts. we will buy walnuts and pecans specifically for baking only. peanuts are filler in mixed nuts. Nutella is made with hazelnuts...

It does have sugar and cocoa, but it is Yummy!
