sangtarah
For a week by yourselves, where would you go? What would you do? Dh wants to dream of a vacation in a year or two, and I’m not full of ideas.
Crimson Wife
DH still owes me a honeymoon (we're celebrating our 19th anniversary next month) and when we FINALLY go, it's going to be to Central Europe: Bavaria, Vienna, Prague, and Budapest.
StephanieZ
Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda. In a couple years, once they've rebuilt post-hurricane.
HomeAgain
We went on a cruise. My sister took my kids for a week and we spent 7 days touring and enjoying being alone. It was great! When we reciprocated the next month, she and her husband took a week in Ankara and had their own adventure. :)
Frances
We had a wonderful week in Vancouver, BC for our 25th wedding anniversary. I also really like the vacations we've done to San Diego during the winter. While we enjoyed our three weeks in Prague, Germany, and Austria last year, I wouldn't want to go that far for only a week, or anywhere that far away for only a week.

medawyn
DH and I are planning a trip to Chile/Patagonia in 2 years to celebrate his 40th. We have no solid plans yet, except to include as much fly fishing for him as I can stand. It is nice to dream about a week as a couple with no kids.
rocassie
1. Caribbean cruise 2. Mountain location for hiking 3. Wine tour 4. Rome, Italy 5. London 6. Hawaii Whatever we planned; it would need good food, time to relax and rejuvenate, and then some fun experiences. We would try and pick one or two experiences we would both enjoy, and then we would each pick out an activity/experience that may not be high on the others to do.
Kassia
It is nice to dream about a week as a couple with no kids. A week is a fantasy! I was just dreaming about a weekend away and DH said let's just start with a night out that isn't the grocery store. :( I can't even imagine a full week! milovany
If cost were not an inhibitor, Greece. With a more limited budget, my husband and I just spent a week in New England and had a fabulous time. We flew into Boston and drove up to south of Portland, ME. We found an Airbnb a block off the ocean beach and stayed most nights there. It was perfect for us (if you want the link, let me know!). We drove into NH one day, spent one day in the city of Portland (given my way, we would have attended a play or something similar), did a boat tour around Casco Bay. day We hung out on the beach a couple of days. It was very nice. I'm also interested in going to Old Quebec City some year.
milovany
A week is a fantasy! I was just dreaming about a weekend away and DH said let's just start with a night out that isn't the grocery store. :( I can't even imagine a full week! We just did a week away for the first time ever, in September, and while I'm so glad we went, it was probably bordering on too long for us given our current circumstances and home situation (kids). So don't beat yourself up if a week isn't possible! Like you said, go for the 1-2 nights first, then maybe later get a few more days in.
rebcoola
Probably back to where we honeymooned Eagle's Nook Resort on Vancouver Island.
bethben
I would rent a full amenity cabin in the mountains and just hike and relax. There is a great bike trail near Vail, CO that runs along a river. I would like to do that also.
creekland
I suspect I would stick within 5 or 6 hours traveling distance away for just a week, and no more than 3 hours time difference. Otherwise, (for us) it would take too long getting there and returning with too much jet lag (if flying) to be worth it. We're probably in a minority with those views as Americans though. One common reason we're given when people mistake our national identity is because we take longer trips and Americans are known for "just a week" with trying to pack everything in whereas other countries take longer and linger more. Given our thoughts, for me to make what I'd consider reasonable suggestions would depend a ton upon the starting location - and then - what y'all like to do.

happypamama
If money permitted, Europe. Italy would be at the top of my list, but I’d love to see it all. In the US, probably I’d like to back to the place where we honeymooned on the outer banks of North Carolina, but we’d also love to take the kids there too, so that would be tough. creekland
Oooh, that sounds fun. I haven’t been to that side of the continent before. I thought Seattle sounded interesting, too. If you like that side, then suggestions would include: - San Francisco, San Diego, or Seattle (for cities - possibly Portland) - a road trip up or down the coast (which can also get you to Redwoods, NP, and in general, some fantastic ocean scenery with charming small towns along the way). If on the northern end (WA - OR), then Mt Rainier and St Helens are possible - or Crater Lake in OR. If more toward San Fran, then Yosemite is possible. It's a drive, but possible. - not coastal, but you could also consider Utah's National Parks for stunning beauty. Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches, & Capital Reef are all there. Any of these could make a nice week-long trip assuming you fly there and rent a car (or not if just doing something like San Fran).
Carrie12345
I honestly have no specific destination wish list. trulycrabby
We would go to England and spend a week attending Premier League soccer games. That's DH's bucket list item; lucky for him I am a futbol fan. My version of a week away would be a trip somewhere to see the aurora borealis. Or, a week in the mountains or a ranch in Montana/Wyoming/Saskatchewan. For beautiful cities in north America, I recommend Vancouver-did you know you can snow ski while seeing a breathtaking view of Vancouver, the pacific ocean, and gulf island? Don't ski? Take the Gondola and enjoy the view! Victoria, B.C. is also breathtaking, especially because of the ferry ride. Montreal: be French Canadian for a week! It's a beautiful city any time of year. Charleston, SC and vicinity: My parents spend a week at Isle of Palms each November, and I had the pleasure of joining them a few years ago. The beaches are lovely to walk on, and the tide is such that there is plenty of hard-packed sand to walk on during low tide. It's not very touristy; many of the people bring their dogs, and they are running around having an excellent doggy time. It's close enough to Charleston so that you can easily drive in for lunch or dinner. Edited November 18, 2017 by trulycrabby
Caroline
We went to Chattanooga for a three day weekend for our 25th anniversary. It’s only 90 minutes away. We did Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, Rock City. It was fun just to be the two of us for the first time in a lot of years. We hiked, relaxed, and ate good food. I think our next trip will be Asheville.

Momto6inIN
DH actually won a trip from his employer this year worth x amount of money to put towards a trip anywhere we want to go. foxbridgeacademy
My husband is not the travel type, he'd go but be silently miserable which would make me miserable. If I wanted him to be happy we'd go either to a cabin in the Rockies or tent camping (preferably well stocked with a good setup for me). Trips I'm planning in the next 5 years are: 1. Beachside in a condo/house for us and the kids (he dislikes the beach), a cruise (he hates crowds), and a cross country camping type trip to either grand canyon or Yellowstone with me and the kids driving out then him flying out for a week before we either all drive back or he flies back and kids and I meander home. I have future plans of doing some decent amount of travelling with DD though.
PeterPan
If you ended up wanting to take your kids along, you could rent a motor home (RV) and do the Grand Canyon. That would be fun with those ages. Our friends did that. We did Alaska in an RV years ago, and that was fun. We've never taken a trip without kids. It seemed like the time was so short and that if we were only going to take one trip we needed to haul them along. I figure we'll do those more adult trips later, when the kids are gone. We have friends who are going to canoe and camp down a scenic river. Apparently it's a thing people do. Dunno. Not sure hammock sleeping is MY idea of romantic togetherness. :D SaveSave SaveSave Edited November 18, 2017 by OhElizabeth

YaelAldrich
This year we went to Bermuda for three days in April. Only a couple of hours from the East Coast, reasonable on the shoulder seasons.

Pam in CT
My husband and I went to Andalusia (Spain) for our 25th. It was divine. We had a little more than a week -- 10 days, I think. Amsterdam is fabulous, easy to get to and definitely do-able in 4-5 days leaving a couple for day trips out. On my bucket list that I'd consider with a week: Iceland, Croatia, Czech, Hungary, rafting the Grand Canyon (though I think I'd want my kids for that). Other places on my list I'd want more time. Amira
Road trip through Jordan and Israel/Palestine. But we live near there so it would be a reasonable weeklong trip. If we lived in the US, I wouldn’t try to pack that into a week including the air travel. Closer to the US, I’d want to go to Mexico, either to the central highlands (Morelia and Guanajuato) or around Campeche in Yucatán.
ondreeuh
We did a family vacation to Costa Rica last year, and that would make a great couples trip. Alaska Airlines now flies to CR, via Los Angeles. We live in Europe now, and all of our recent vacation plans have involved visiting different cities - well, we did a 9 day trip with 3 days in Prague, 1 in Bratislava, 1 visiting caves & castles in central Slovakia, and 4 in Budapest. For us, our daily life is fairly peaceful, so if we want to vacation we want to GO somewhere, not get away, kwim? Camping or renting a remote cabin just doesn't interest me anymore. We haven't done a couples trip yet. We could probably ask friends to watch the kids for a weekend, but the kids are good travelers and dh and I aren't exactly sunbathers or clubbers ;). The stuff we like to do is the stuff they like to do too. Sometimes when we're on a trip, we will leave the kids home in the evening and go get dinner & wander around together. For a weekend trip, I would go to a quaint town or Amsterdam. Maybe Brussels since it's so close. If I was going to plan a week-long couples-only trip, I think it would be to Ireland. Dh has always wanted to go. We've done a couple of "treasure hunts" where you pay $50 or so to be given clues that lead you around the city, exploring the less-touristy side. Those are fun. Maybe they have one of those in Dublin.
Pink and Green Mom
Our 20th anniversary is later this month and we are going on a cruise to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. We leave Friday for 10 days and I cannot wait! My first choice was to go to Iceland. But since we live in Florida and really don't own much in the way of cold weather clothes it just seemed too impractical. Oh well, maybe some day we will get there. Things we have done and loved: Hawaii, Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver (we stayed for 3 days after the cruse - LOVED the city), 5 days in San Francisco, 4 days in New Orleans (this one we did with the kids). SporkUK
A week in a dark sky park is my dream. Just a gentle week of nature walks and hopefully a few nights of clear nights to get a chance to see the full night sky. This along with a holiday to see the 2026 solar eclipse in Iceland are the only get-away dreams I have. I'm not a big on travel, I find it tiring so whatever needs to be restful enough to make the travel worth it.
