Funny, loving, equalitarian, living his values, focusing on what is really important in life, giving her an excellent example of manhood and being a loving father. Every time he went into the hospital (which seemed like it was constant) he was just like..."Oh they'll patch me up and I'll be good to go." I hope he wasn't scared. It sounds like he took a sudden turn for the worse, but maybe he was sicker than I realized all along.
