How many pairs of shoes does your (male) teenager have?

Recommended Posts

Calvin seems to have an awful lot, but I can't see how to reduce them. He has:

- for school: black leather shoes, two pairs of sports shoes and a pair of football boots (compulsory)

- for home: Wellington (rubber) boots, hiking boots, snow boots, one pair of casual every-day shoes, slippers

That's nine pairs of footwear! Something like GBP 200 worth at any one time. All of which he will grow out of fast! His feet are big enough now that I'm not sure that I'll be able to pass the Wellies and snow boots on to Hobbes, as H is built on a much smaller scale.

I tried to do without snow boots one winter, but his toes were really cold in Wellies, even with thick socks... We live in the country, so the Wellies and hiking boots get used all the time. He wears his school black leather shoes for formal occasions....

I do look for bargains, but I also think that a good fit is important.

When we lived in China, each child had two pairs of shoes: sandals and trainers (tennies). At least we don't need sandals in Scotland....

My ds 15 does not like shoes. He would go barefoot or wear Crocs always if he could. Even with that attitude and home teaching he has snow boots, rain boots, sneakers, slippers, casual shoes, sandals and wears his dads shoes for dress. Right now he doesn't need special shoes for sports. Ack, who knew?

They each have one pair for daily use (sneakers). My older kids each have one pair of dress shoes.

That's it.

They all hate sandals/flip-flops. No slippers (it's too warm here). And no boots.

When we lived in Hong Kong, if the boys had worn Wellies in the rain, they would have sweated so much inside that they would have been as wet as if they had been rained on. When we visit Dallas in August we only take trainers and sandals.

For us, the question should be "How many pairs of un-worn out shoes does your male teenager have?"

The answer is "TOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY!" He's been outgrowing his shoes every 2 months - yes, his feet ache sometimes because of this. Currently, he seems to have landed (we have high hopes because this is his father's shoe size and my brother's as well) at a men's 9.5 (US sizing). So, he has one pair of tennis shoes, one pair of wingtips, one pair of winter boots (actually, a pair of his father's because there was a mega sale at the end of last season and I bought two pairs - whew, we could be covered for a month or two), and one pair of loafers. I did not buy the loafers. My mil saw them on clearance at LL Bean and decided she ought to buy them for him.

Child who is 13 has all the leftovers from his older brother. Unfortunately, this child is horridly hard on shoes so they won't be any good for the youngest when his feet hit their growth spurt.

We have the same problem here. I have two boys, 13 and 10, and they both have a ton of shoes. No chance for hand me downs either as they both have the same shoe size!

Each has:

1 pr leather dress shoes

1 pr hiking boots

1 pr rubber boots

1 pr casual everyday shoes

1 pr tennis shoes

1 pr house shoes

1 pr sandals

... but the guys don't currently do any sports, so their only specialty shoes are hiking boots (for Scout campouts, hikes, away camp, and more).

Nearly 16yo son, size 11.5 and fairly stable: One nice pair of Converse low-tops (he wears these as much as humanly possible), flip-flops, a ratty pair of Converse for lawn mowing, hiking boots, and black dress shoes. He was using his dad's dress shoes, until we had a family funeral to attend.

Nearly 12yo son, growing fast: skater-style shoes (his go-to shoe, instead of the sneakers he used to wear), flip-flops, hiking boots.

My son has regular athletic shoes for every day use, two pairs of boots for soccer--outdoor and turf, slides for after soccer, running shoes worn only for running (he runs 4-6 miles a day), one pair of casual dress shoes, and flip flops. We don't get a lot of snow, so no snow boots. I had no idea he had seven pairs of footwear until I sat here and counted.

DS11 has 4. One all-around sports pair (used even for church), one sandals, one hiking boots (a must for all our camping and hiking), one soccer. His feet have grown so quickly (he's now a men's 9) that it was pointlessw to buy dress shoes - they might get used 4 times before being outgrown.

Let's see... Flip flops. Black dress shoes. Two pairs of Converse high-tops. I think that's all that fits right now. I need to get him some new slippers. And a new pair of snow boots before we go up to the mountains this winter.

So, four that fit, and he could use two more.

One pair of tennis shoes

One pair of hiking boots

One pair of slippers (which he will probably never wear. In which case I will confiscate them and wear them)

When summer comes around he'll get a new pair of sandals. He's about to outgrow his tennis shoes, so those will get replaced soon.

One pair school shoes

one pair sports shoes

one pair sailing boots

one pair waterproof sailing boots

one pair cadets boots

one pair (best) sea cadet boots

one pair normal sea cadet boots

one pair casual shoes

one pair crocs

Only 9 in all lol!

Bearing in mind we have 3 boys age 8-14 we have a similar amount in all sizes from 8-14!!

Don't get me started on wetsuits/drysuits/waterproofs/life jackets for sailing! I need a storage unit just to house those!

ds is not quite a teen, but he has 2. Sandles and shoes. The shoes are black, leather, tidy-looking, athletic shoes that can cross as dressy and are water resistant so can be worn in the rain. We polish them when they need to be dressy. It does not snow here, and my ds wears sandles everyday it is not raining, and often when it is raining.:001_smile:

Those are kinda redundant. Possibly you can reduce there? Ds14 has probably 4 pairs of shoes total: sneakers, loafers (dress shoes), Timberland boots (snow, hiking and work), and special fencing shoes. He also has flip-flops and slippers which I don't really count.

My boys each have one pair of shoes. This is their choice. If I buy more, they get outgrown without having been worn. I think they should have a spare pair of everyday shoes, dress shoes, slippers, water shoes, flip-flops, and winter boots.

I think a couple of them have flip-flops, come to think of it, but they never wear them.

Three:

a pair of flip flops, which is what he wears most of the time

a pair of hiking shoes

a pair of tennis shoes

If you count water shoes, used for kayaking, seining in the river, etc. then he has four.

He doesn't play sports, has no need for dress shoes, and we live in Florida where boots and other winter footwear is unnecessary.

His feet are growing faster and faster. I swear I'm replacing shoes more often than ever.

My 17 yo has 2 - a pair of black pumas and a pair of flip-flops

My 16 yo has 4 - 2 pairs of pumas, a pair of flip-flops, and a pair of those toe shoes (not sure what to call them)

My 18 yo has 3 - 2 pairs of pumas, a pair of flip-flops

My 21 yo has way too many!

I'm thankful that they will all be getting a new pair for the wedding in June :) They aren't thrilled with it, but I will be happy to see something other than pumas and flip-flops!

Seems reasonable, unless you want to move, home educate, or become coach potatoes! You could perhaps wear walking boots in place of snow shoes, but they might take longer to dry out, so no good if he needs them every day. Use trainers for casual shoes? Or are they specialist sports shoes? Could you buy from a factory/outlet shop?

BTDT -ds is now an eleven. I'm so glad his feet seem to have stopped growing!

The school requires one for indoors in the gym and one for outdoors (which get muddy). You're right though, if I can find serious sports shoes (he also runs) which he could also wear as casual shoes, then I could lose one pair from the total.

It's known as the shoe shop from hell, but it is cheap. We tried hiking boots instead of snow boots, but his feet got cold. I could try to double up on the trainers/casual shoes.

Six:

Everyday sneakers

Yard work/camping sneakers

hiking shoes

shower shoes aka flip flops (for when showering at a camp shower)

water shoes (for water parks, canoeing, etc)

dress shoes

Just noticed the slippers..... so seven, not six. About half of what I have...
