Hopefully I will be out of the hospital tomorrow

Almost three weeks ago, I was taking a walk, with dh near the Tennessee River and the asphalt was crumbling and I twisted my right ankle and fell on my left knee.  Didn't break anything but fid get huge scabs on the left knee.  The last scabs fell of Tuesday night, I suppose, since Wednesday morning I had a huge hole in my knee.  Dh saw it and first made an appointment w my regular doctor for the afternoon but an hour later it was worse so he took me to the ER.

From the ER, I was admitted.  Thursday I had an orthopedist do a surgery were he cleaned it out and drained a pocket of fluid too. They put me on a wound vac to help the healing.  Then I had to wait for the cultured to come in and they finally did today- MSSA snd not MRSA.  MSSA is the type of staph infection that is easy to treat.

But it is Sunday and they couldn't arrange all that is necessary for me to come home----- portable wound vac, home health nurse set-up, and new antibiotic prescription ( I am on iv antibiotic here)  etc.

Hopefully, I can go home tomorrow and hopefully I will not need plastic surgery ( I saw one on Friday and supposed to see him two weeks after I am discharged to see if skin id growing back on its own).  As all my doctors have said. I got this because of my autoimmune diseases and it will take a long time to heal because of the autoimmune diseases.

oh no! If you have any wound specialists near you, don't hesitate to see them. Lots of crazy things being done with biopolymers, etc.

Yes. The woman who redid the wound vac on Friday night after the plastic surgeon needed to see the actual hole was s wound care person.

Unfortunately. 2nd day in a row, my Iv leaked fluid into an arm.  Waiting for a fifth try on getting a new IV.  Each nurse only likes trying 2 sticks. So waiting for another nurse.

I hate having such tiny veins and having them all hide too.

I'm so sorry that this is compounding all that you are going through. Here's a virtual hug 🤗for you.

I had similar issues last time I was in the hospital - ask if they have a "vein team". Usually there is a special team that does hard sticks, plus does arterial lines, etc. They can use ultrasound, have other tricks. They are the "top gun" of needle stickers. For some reason they don't tell you about this until everyone else gives up, but you can politely ask. Usually the nurses are relieved and happy to get them for you.

Oh no! I hope they get your IV right and that you can get home soon.

I don't need the IV anymore since I can start my oral antibiotic- Keflex, which I will get soon. The case manager is setting up the home health nurse and I think the portable vacuum too.  The wound care nurse is due here too very soon.

I am just going to be so happy to be home again.

My word!  So sorry to hear about the ankle not cooperating on asphalt LOL!  Glad to hear you're making improvements but man, Chris, you've been through a lotm.    Are you come now?  Hope so.  Are you able to stand/walk?

The other day I used my foot to untwist Shiloh's leash in the front yard.   I know, I know.  Why use the foot!?  I did and my feet butted into one another and I feel.   On grass and I was thankful to not have broken bones.

Tell us when you're home.   GET BETTER!

Still here in the hospital.  The new plan is the wound person will come here, change me from a wound vac  to s wet/dry bandage and then when the home nurse comes ( I don't know if that will be later today or tomorrow), she will put me on a wound vac again.

Dh has gone to Publix to pick up  the meds I was prescribed ( Keflex and probiotic) and food we need in the house and then he will work at home till I need to be picked up.

Hoping you get home today!  It will be good to be in your own space, there’s nothing like your own bed.

Hugs to you!

I think it’s protocol. After two sticks they have to get someone else. Or else you would get someone less experience trying a few times.

My veins are tiny and they are good at moving away from the needle. The surgery dept nurses would use a vein finder/scanner so sometimes I get three nurses doing my IV (the third being a trainee or someone new to the dept).
