FriedClams
Yeah, we're math nerds here. It's pi day tomorrow!! 3/14... get it? We always have round food - pot pie, pizza pie, and a pi for dessert. It's a super fun break from the February/Early March blahs.
SparklyUnicorn
Yes and dab nabbit I bought a pi shirt and now because of a snow storm I don't get to show it off.
retiredHSmom
We chose the exact same menu! Maybe it's the math grad student in the house, but we will definitely be celebrating pi day.

AnnE-girl
I'm making quiche for breakfast and chocolate pie for dessert. Dinner will be chicken burritos, so not pie-shaped, but the tortillas are round. :-)
Ali in OR
Planning a mud pie here. Will make the homemade coffee ice cream today and put it in oreo pie crust shell to freeze overnight. Then make some hot fudge sauce to spoon over it tomorrow, top with cool whip (I know, this is the only recipe I use it for) and freeze the whole thing for tomorrow night. I was going to just do spaghetti for dinner, but I could probably do pizza--good idea!
Night Elf
And I just bought a pie this morning! I should have waited one more day. I'll remind dd to wear her Pi shirt at school tomorrow. Her calculus teacher will probably think it's funny.

umsami
I picked up a frozen mud pie from Trader Joe's. I'm ready! :) http://www.traderjoes.com/digin/post/mudd-pie

Guest
huh pie is difficult to pull off when low carb(ing) That would be an extremely depressing pie. Perhaps a quiche with lots of bacon and cheese.
purpleowl
If you have a Blaze Pizza near you, they're doing $3.14 pizzas on Pi Day. :) Sparkly, I think you're good to wear your pi shirt afterward. Christmas gets twelve days, right? (I actually wear mine year-round. Heh. Round. Get it? Okay, I'll stop now.)
SparklyUnicorn
I'd totally cheat with pizza (not so much with pie). Probably won't be able to go anywhere tomorrow though with a major snow storm. Which is probably good...so I won't go and get those pizzas. LOL
MEmama
Same menu here too--tamale pie, pizza and pumpkin pie. DS made himself wait for his geography test on circles until tomorrow too (he likes math tests) because of course. :)
athomeontheprairie
Yay! We have pies made. Pizza and quiche for the main meals. Dd9 is working on the first hundred digits (she's almost there!) We have a dentist appointment in the morning. She made them a pie, but will keep it back. She plans to ask if they'd like pie for our day, then recite the digits. Then give them a pie 🙂. We will be in town all.day.long. (sigh). We'll be measuring every circle we can find and see pi! Yay! We love pi day
SproutMamaK
Our kids LOVE Pi day, because they each get to choose a pie and we make ALL of them. Tomorrow we're have shepherd's pie, chicken pot pie, chocolate peanut butter cream pie, and apple pie. I've already made two of them because that it WAY too much work for one day, lol.
Matryoshka
Thank you for reminding me. We are having a blizzard tomorrow, so I went out and bought some pre-made pies, chicken pot pie for dinner and strawberry rhubarb. I also bought eggs for quiche for brunch. :D
AnnE-girl
Are there any good Pi Day videos for kids? I finally just ordered a copy of Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi from Amazon because it's hard to get the library copy at the right time. It should arrive tomorrow, but I'd like some fun videos to add to our day, if anyone has any recommendations.

Farrar
I cheated. I bought a Costco pie. The checkout helper was so funny. She had very limited English and was like, this is the best thing we have here. It's made back there you know. And also, tomorrow has something to do with pie. I don't know what, but I know people like pie. Yes, yes we do. Also, math.

Seeking Squirrels
We'll have Shepherd's Pie made in a round baking dish. I make the Pi symbol on top by using two different colored cheeses! We'll have some sort of pie for dessert, probably pumpkin since that's really the only one DD8 will eat. She might eat a chocolate pudding pie, so maybe I'll try that. Suzanne in ABQ
I made two pies today. Dd will take one to school (her math and science classes are combining for lots of pi activities and pie consuming.

Alice
We ended up making an apple pie. I haven't made a crust from scratch in forever so it's a little iffy if it will turn out ok. But dd had a lot of fun baking with me. As we were doing it I thought that I should do that kind of thing more often with her. She loves to bake and cook and craft. Me, not as much. But it is fun doing it with her. And we're having meatballs for dinner, I figure they are also round. :)

blondeviolin
Domino's has pizza for BOGO if you order online so that's what we're having. Nobody else likes pie except one kid and myself so I'm not making a fruit pie for that...

Laura Corin
Somewhat clueless company alert: landsend.co.uk is offering a pi day discount..... but it's not pi day in the UK. That would be the 31st of April, if such a day existed, or the 3rd day of the 14th month: http://www.landsend.co.uk/ There will be some quite mystified customers. I can't see anywhere where it explains what they are talking about.
Spy Car
Just came home from Volunterring at Pi Day at my son's school. It is the big event every year (sponsored by the Math Academy program). News crews show up. Some students memorize fantastical numbers of digits. But I had too much sun. Almost 90. Can't imagine snow storms in this heat. RootAnn
Made a Chocolate Chess pi[e]. Still have one crust left & a couple of hours until they will be consumed. Perhaps a magical chocolate pi[e]. Yes, it is Lent. Yes, we are still having chocolate. :leaving:
barnwife
Free pie at our library! Whoot! I think I will suggest this to our librarians for next year. I can't in good conscience make a pie for Pi day due to too many family birthdays right before it. That means we already have plenty of desserts, way more than we need, especially during Lent. Therefore we will eat a green pie for St. Patrick's day dessert, after the bday desserts are gone.

wintermom
Had to have pie today. It was a delicious French-Canadian concoction of sugar, "Nun's farts" and pure lard (I should NOT have looked at the ingredients).

ScoutTN
Dd and I discussed pie all day today. (We did eat pie too. :D ) Now we have a "to make" list of pies we like but have never made before. Coconut cream is first. Anyone have a good recipe?

BTW, the "nun's farts" don't translate directly into that in English. That's the French-Canadian name for the pastry (pete de soeur). I love the name, though. Edited March 15, 2017 by wintermom
dirty ethel rackham
We had home made chicken pot pie for dinner. Dd made key lime pie for dessert (dh's favorite pie.) Total yum! I look like a lobster from too much sun exposure today at school and then lacrosse practice this afternoon. Lacrosse in snow? That might me fun. We'd need to switch from white balls. I did have a snow-cone today. Bill
