PinkTulip
Where I live, it's fry sauce. A strange mixture of ketchup and mayo, sometimes with a little pickle relish mixed in. Sounds disgusting, but actually quite good!

Snickerdoodle
Oh man, I need to add gravy. Where I live, it's fry sauce. A strange mixture of ketchup and mayo, sometimes with a little pickle relish mixed in. Sounds disgusting, but actually quite good! AKA secret sauce LOL
MicheleinMN
I usually mix mayo with a bit of ketchup and add some bbq sauce. Yum.
*Inna*
Sometimes I have sweet chili sauce with fries. :thumbup1:
Amira
I like them hot, fresh, salty and undipped, but if I am dipping, I'll take Arby's sauce. I grew up in fry sauce land but it's not my thing.
Library Momma
I don't really eat home fries but for tater tots or french fries I mix either blue cheese or mayo with hot sauce. Yummy.
Peach
Seasoned Salt & vinegar for the fries too!
Anne in CA
I do love fry sauce and at the restaurant we make our own by adding Carolina Mustard to our home made Thousand Island. But mostly I go for ketchup or Ranch on fries or tater tots.
Closeacademy
I just like them salty.
EndOfOrdinary
I am total Pacific Northwest! We put either ketchup or ranch on everything! For me, if there is already salt on the item then I go with ketchup, but no salt means I go for the ranch. My husband is very much southern. He only eats ketchup if it is mixed with mayo. He thinks all my ketchup and ranch eating (and our son's) is rather gross.
Cinder
Usually just ketchup--that's what I voted. Sometimes ketchup with a bit of tabasco mixed in. Occasionally bbq sauce. Malt vinegar if we're at 5 Guys.
Desert Strawberry
I said bbq, but it has to be sweet. If we only have regular, I will sweeten it. I like honey mustard, too.
fraidycat
Other: depends on my mood of the day. Ketchup, Ranch, Frank's, mustard, BBQ sauce, or WHITE (malt is nasty, awful stuff) vinegar are all fair game.
Seasider
I voted ketchup and other, sour cream.
edelweiss
None of the above. I just like lots of salt!
SeaConquest
Are home fries different from french fries? I don't think I've ever eaten a tater tot.
AnnE-girl
I'll do plain ketchup generally, but if I have time, I like to mix ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. We usually have tator tots on busy convenience food nights, so I usually have whatever is faster.

Not for fried potato dipping. I'm sure there are southerners who do it, but I would not characterize it as a southern thing.
MiMi 4under3
Are home fries different from french fries? I don't think I've ever eaten a tater tot. Home fries are "breakfast potatoes." Cubes of potatoes fried with onions.

I never heard of mixing mayo and ketchup for fries until I moved to Utah as a young adult. It *should* be a southern thing bc we sure love mayo.
AndyJoy
Location and mood and type of fries matter to me. Tots: ketchup or ranch or fry sauce or just seasoning salt Breakfast potatoes: ketchup + Tabasco McDonald's fries: ketchup Winger's: Original Amazing Sauce + ranch or BBQ Arby's curly: horsey Del Taco: 1 part ketchup, 2 parts Del Scorcho Burger King: yucky fries--onion rings only! Carl's Jr. crinkle cut: BBQ What can I say? I'm complicated like that :)

I never heard of mixing mayo and ketchup for fries until I moved to Utah as a young adult. It *should* be a southern thing bc we sure love mayo. It's big in Idaho too. Arctic Circle has it in a dispenser along with ketchup. You can even get it at some big franchise places that don't officially offer it, like McDonald's. I remember going on a youth group trip as a teen; we baffled the McDonald's clerk in NM with our request for fry sauce. "You mean ketchup?" he asked. When we explained he asked every employee in the place about it because he thought we were so odd! None of them had heard of it.
Ewe Mama
Home fries for breakfast get dipped in maple syrup, along with the eggs and bacon. Regular fries, either honey mustard or ketchup.
GailV
Ketchup for me, but dd mixes ketchup and mustard.
Amira
If we're talking about hash browns instead of french fries, then I'm going to have to take my vote back because I don't particularly care for either hash browns or tator tots. If I do eat hash browns, I just want them with eggs and lots of pepper.
luuknam
I'm from The Netherlands, so traditionally, mayo. But that's often not available here in NY, so ketchup. Other things I've done include apple sauce, peanut sauce, mayo mixed with ketchup, mayo mixed with applesauce, mayo and ketchup mixed with applesauce. Applesauce can go with almost anything! Chili with applesauce, bami goreng with applesauce, pasta (either alfredo or with some sort of tomato sauce) with applesauce.. :) ETA: I thought home fries were more like steak fries. W/e. Tator tots could be with any of the above, except maybe peanut sauce.
Rebel Yell
OTHER... Just salt. As much salt as will stick to the potatoes. :leaving: Not that you asked, but salt and vinegar for my fries. Malt vinegar, actually. :drool5:
Mommy22alyns
It's a very fine line. Tater tots, nothing. Home fries, ketchup. Now all bets are off if we're talking about hash browns, because ketchup on hash browns is an abomination. Yeah, I just went there.
Guest
I clicked on ketchup, but if I'm out of the homemade variety, I'd rather make some gravy than head for the supermarket. If I have extra potatoes when I'm making biscuits 'n gravy, I'll usually make homefries to go with them and have enough gravy for both. Do I get extra "white trash" points for vegan gravy made from the water i cooked last night's beans in? ;)
TammyS
I chose "other" because if the tater tots or fries are good, they don't need anything. I will resort to ketchup, but that's only when they are disappointing.
momto10blessings
Tater tots- ketchup and seasoned salt Home fries (are these hash browns?)- a combo of ketchup and a-1 steak sauce and lots of seasoned salt

OneStepAtATime
depends on the fries/tater tots and my mood but usually ketchup/ranch/cheese sauce/honey mustard dip/brown mustard sauce either individually or in some combination.
Tap
I would want ketchup but would eat ranch instead because I am allergic to ketchup. I would only eat a couple because I would remember that I don't like ranch after just one or two and find something else to eat. LOL
applethyme
Tater tots just beg for sour cream. Home fries only need a little salt and maybe a dab of catsup.

Jayne J
Depending on my mood and what else I am eating, I frequently use ketchup, or a ketchup mix (ketchup plus one any one of the following: Worchestershire sauce, Sriracha, Tabasco, horseradish sauce, mayo), spicy mustard, ranch or BBQ sauce. I've experimented with mayo and wasabi. Often, fries are just an excuse to get sauce into my face. I am not a fan of vinegar or gravy on fries.
