What jobs could you never do? (details in post)

Not jobs that aren't interesting to you, we all have those.   Or jobs that you can't do because you don't have the talent, I have lots of those.

But what job could you not do because it is too weird, or too freaky, or too scary or too whatever.

I could not be a medical examiner or a funeral director.   Dealing with dead bodies wigs me out.

You?

(and yes, I need a distraction)

I’m losing my filter so I’m not sure I could handle going back into anything that involves high stress and people like nursing again. I just have less compassion for some people. People who believe politicians and memes over science, for example.

I am actually in the process of applying to be a Deputy Medical Investigator in my state (no medical experience needed)😀

I don’t think I could work as a CNA/Patient care tech at a nursing home. I can do baby diapers, but the I don’t do adult diapers.

I don't think I could be a family court judge. Some cases are clear. But those cases where it isn't, making the decisions of whether a child/children should go back to a parent or not--I just don't think I could do that.

Having gone through all the foster to adopt, I understand.   The first judge gave Andrew back twice!   She was huge on reunification, which I get, but it was a very unhealthy environment and he should not have been given back because she did NOTHING on the list she was given of what she needed to do to get him back.   (she showed up to parenting classes high as a kite and they made her leave and she never went back.   She went to DV classes and told the instructor she was going to kill him, got kicked out.....she was meant to go to weekly classes and only went to one of each and stopped)

That was all before I got him.   By the time I flew across the country to go get him, they were 99% sure he wasn't going back.

This is a case that would be clear to me, to NOT send the child back to the parent. I'm a CASA, and there are some cases that I don't know what I would do. Thankfully, we seem to have a very good judge, at least seeing over my cases.

I have nothing but respect and appreciation for the guys that put in a drain in our crawl space. They said ours was actually pretty clean and roomy compared to some they work on. And the owner of the business said he pays very, very well. These guys have to dig a drain inside the perimeter of the foundation (then connect a sump pump) and they have to deal with any vermin that could be there. Needless to say, I don't think I could do this job.

Thank you for what you do.  CASA’s are so important for our kids.

I considered becoming a doctor once upon a long ago, and perhaps if I had done it then, I could've.  But now I know that certain smells and sights make me sick, so I think I have eliminated medicine as a future career choice. 😅

Well, at least the reason isn't that you almost failed 10th grade chemistry.   Like "my friend" did.   🫠

Not dentistry. Maybe an orthodontic tech.

No dead people stuff, at least not the technical parts. Maybe helping with the details and plans would be fine.

No fast food that involves a kitchen with fryers.

Nothing where fire is involved.

Oh yes.   My friend is a dental hygienist and I cringe when I think of having to touch people in the mouth.

I'm very bookish and academically-bent, so it was definitely the practical aspects of it that would be . . .challenging to me.  🤢

I struggled with math and science.   I could do the practical part easily.   I watched surgeries for years and enjoyed it.

I don't think I could be one of those cleaners that go into homes after someone died or similar.

I don't think I could be a defense attorney for child murderers.

I really don't think I could be a CPS case worker.  It sounds like the most depressing job on the planet.  My kid wants to do this for a living though, so I hope she finds it fulfilling ....

Saliva, mouths, teeth, tongues? No problem. It’s the rodents. <shiver> Can’t stand rodents.

Right there with you.  No mice.

Nurse - I worked for a vet for 5 years, toughest job I ever loved, but couldn't do that with people. Plus I have practically no immune system, so it would be a sucky job. I was surprised the number of people that asked me if I was going to be nurse when I started college. Like, no, you wouldn't want me as your nurse either.

Server - I couldn't carry heavy trays, I'd dump drinks on someone the first day. Plus I don't like dealing with leftover food.

I also couldn't be a school teacher. I love kids--one-on-one. Crowd control and classroom management? Nope. That's a nightmare to me. I might could be a reading specialist or something that was individual or very small group. I might could do adult education or higher education, because I do like to teach.

I would not make a good nurse or doctor. I see injuries, and just imagine what it would feel like and I just couldn't deal with that on a regular basis.

I physically feel the pain of some injuries when I see them on other people - it actually hurts me. So no doctoring or nursing for me.

Question: Do you think if you were a cleaning person somewhere that it is reasonable for them to expect that it is part of your job description to clean human waste off floors and walls? Camps where there are boys and stuff. Or would it be more reasonable to be clear that that should be cleaned up by properly equipped personnel wearing proper protective gear? Am I thinking crazy?

If I were in any janitorial position, that would be where I would draw the line. Could not do that.

Veterinarian or anything to do with sick animals.  Something about sick or injured animals squeaks me out.

And yes, I am well aware that considering my job, that’s weird.

Most veterinary people feel the same way about human medicine. The idea of drawing blood from a human is 🤮

Nothing with mice, nothing with reptiles except tortoises which I love.

Nothing medical. I am literally the last human on earth anyone would want to have care for them. I turn green at the sight of needles though I can handle being poked myself.

Nothing to with sewage. I have a strong gag reflex when it comes to that smell. I barely managed my own children's diapers.

My dd picked up some contact solution for me but then left it at a friend's, and said friend had rats. I was like, YOU DIDN'T LEAVE IT IN THE SAME ROOM AS THE RATS, DID YOU??

The cap of the solution is sealed in plastic, and then the whole bottle is in a sealed box, but my brain didn't care, lol. She assured me it was in a different room and also still in the plastic store bag, so I didn't set it on fire.

There is no reason a cleaning person should not have protective gear. It's pretty standard these days to wear basic PPE (gloves, goggles, mask) for just routine cleaning of bathrooms.

If a cleaning person at a camp requested further PPE to have on hand for that type of situation, I can't imagine them being turned down (from a liability standpoint alone).

Any job that requires parallel parking. Though I got lucky in NYC yesterday, heh.

I hear you. A long time ago, I handed my keys to a perfect stranger who offered to parallel park me in the city, lol

Nothing to do with eyeballs. I have a pretty strong stomach and can handle most things that other people find gross but eyeballs really gross me out.

I am claustrophobic so nothing in confined spaces.

I couldn't medically treat small children or animals because I just don't have the patience and gentle demeanor needed for that.

Nothing medical or para-medical, to include veterinary, dental or eye care; nothing involving frequently dealing with fluids/blood/vomit, etc, animal or human.

I did not like certain cases in defense law and frequently wished I was on the prosecution team instead. Now I am in ethical law, which suits me far better.
