If you were purchasing a carrot cake, would you expect it to have raisins?

Recommended Posts

Since I don't like raisins, I would assume it didn't, and then I would be disappointed if it did.

The baker just can't win. :D

This. :tongue_smilie:

I wouldn't be surprised either way. If raisin content was very important to me, I'd ask about it.

(I'd not be surprised either way about raisins, pineapples, or pecans, and would be happy to have them. Or candied ginger! But that's not exactly a standard additive. I'd be a little annoyed if there were walnuts that weren't clearly marked.)

I would not expect them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were in there. I'd make sure to check before I purchased though. I love raisins, but not in my carrot cake. Nuts, yes. Raisins, not so much.

ETA: Pineapple? Can't say I've ever had pineapple in carrot cake. Nor golden raisins.

Just thought I'd add: I like walnuts or pecans.

But I really dislike it when the entire outside on the cake is covered with chopped nuts. It is just overkill, IMO. And I can't always sucessfully scrape off the nuts without losing too much precious frosting!

Yes, I would.

And furthermore, I'd expect the raisins to be blatantly obvious.

Dark raisins. Lots of them. In every slice.

Yellow raisins may be included, but they're not necessary.

 we must share a recipe! (except, I hate nuts in cakes, which I see you like...)

Some of the answers here are surprising!

Maybe it's a regional thing? Carrot cake is probably my most-requested cake, maybe second only to vanilla cake with layers of fresh raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream. My standard carrot cake recipe includes raisins and walnuts, but no pineapple. I have only one customer who's ever asked me to leave out the nuts, and that's only because grandma can't digest them. I've never ever had a customer ask me to leave out the raisins. :001_huh:
