following! As far as supplements go, I have tried a couple, but am still looking for the perfect one. Hormone testing has been recommended.

App for high school grading/planning
kimnc replied to Parrothead's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Scolaric works pretty well for planning/grading, I don't think it does transcripts. It is all online and pretty cheap ($2/mo). I have heard good things about Teascript, but have no personal experience with it. -
Apologia and anti-Catholic sentiment
kimnc replied to AimeeM's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:lurk5: I did the google thing that teeniebeenie6 suggested, there were some interesting results. Several on Catholic Answers, a few on TWTM boards. -
Thank you, OhElizabeth! I was not aware that there even were interactive textbooks on iBooks. Definitely worth checking out.

S/O Christmas Tree Decorating...With Cats
kimnc replied to earthyfamily's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Luckily, my cats haven't tried to chew the wires! However, we used to have a rabbit and she would chew EVERYTHING -- so we only put lights on the top 2/3 of the tree, and stop out of reach. The cats like to hang out under the tree and knock down the ornaments on the bottom branches. We lose at least 2 every year. :tongue_smilie: -
Stainless Steel Skillets? Help!
kimnc replied to Tracy in Ky's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I recommend All Clad. I splurged and bought one, used the 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath & Beyond about a decade ago. Emerilware is also very good, I have a couple of his pots and like them better than the Calphalon. I never put my stainless pots in the dishwasher. Years ago I put a pewter spoon rest in there, it dulled the finish, so I'm pretty wary of putting any metal in there now. If you have stuck on food, just "deglaze" them with a bit of water while they are still hot, it comes right off and they are easier to clean then. If it needs shining up a little Bar Keepers Friend does the trick. -
I LOVE the new changes. It is so much closer to the Latin, and the Eucharistic prayer is so beautiful and poetic. There was a line at the beginning of the prayer that says "send down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall" on the gifts - so beautiful! :001_smile: My only question is why did it take so long?

I'm going to go against the tide here and recommend a Kindle. It is SOOO much nicer to read on than the iPad (my DH has an iPad, so I've tried both) - both easier on the eyes and easier to hold if you are planning to read for a long period of time. (Not to mention cheaper, and it fits in my purse!) If you read a lot, it's worth it. The iPad is okay, but I love my Kindle.

There is one called iplanlessons, it's by iHomeEducator. I think it was about $9 but they will sometimes put out freebie codes on their Facebook page. I haven't played with it much but it looks pretty good so far. iplanlessons web page

s/o another thread - girlfriends as "family"
kimnc replied to TechWife's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The difference here is that the girl was not considered family by the rest of the family. She was not liked by the immediate family, she was tolerated for the son's sake. This is a good point, and bears consideration. Overall, I think that if the family didn't want the gf there they should have made that clear to the son. Of course this might have meant other hurt feelings and a rift in the family. There isn't a really easy way to handle that sort of situation. -
Question of the day! Do you re-wash a "returned" dish?
kimnc replied to MissKNG's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Wash. To paraphrase the old saying, "you don't know where it's been". :) -
s/o another thread - girlfriends as "family"
kimnc replied to TechWife's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The OP's point is simply that non-family members should wait to be asked before including themselves in family photos. The girlfriend and nephew were not engaged and had no children - they were simply cohabitating. (In his parents' house.) It was simply bad manners for the girlfriend to include herself without being invited. I think the best solution is to take lots of various photos, some with spouses, some without, some with just siblings, etc., as people have previously mentioned. -
I know what you mean. Every summer I attempt to learn it, and eventually throw in the towel and go back to Donna Young's forms. They've actually worked pretty well this year (except when I forget to plan, doh). :001_smile: Of course, it is a bit more complicated now because I have to reinstall parallels and Windows on my Mac.
