  1. I would try a low FODMAP diet. http://shepherdworks.com.au/disease-information/low-fodmap-diet It has been a massive help to my daughter over the last few months and my son started it yesterday for similar symptoms.
  2. For the record, my daughter's case was relatively mild...once she was treated. The same for the friend. We were with them on the fourth and he sounded awful. I saw him the next week and he was fine.
  3. My son's very close friend was diagnosed on July 5th...he is 14.
  4. There have been many cases in my area in vaccinated children. I personal know several of the children.
  5. I thought I'd respond, as I was the lone responder. ;) My daughter had it in February. She was vaccinated, but hadn't had the booster yet. She turned 11 in January.
  6. I spent a month in England living in my father's rented cottage outside of Cambridge. I was shocked by how difficult it was for me to understand the language. I spent my time with locals and also at the hospital where I visited with people from all over the country...oh and a family from Wales...good golly. I was completely unprepared. I assumed we'd all be speaking the same language. ;) I was also surprised by how difficult ordering a glass of water was...still, with ice...which was not always available. I once asked a woman if she would direct me to a drinking fountain and she laughed and commented that, "Americans are always so thirsty!" apparently drinking fountains are uncommon there.
  7. My daughter was recently diagnosed with fructose malabsorption and SIBO...the symptoms sound similar to what you are describing. They are diagnosed with a hydrogen breath test. She was prescribed a low FODMAP diet. She was diagnosed with a mild wheat allergy about a month previously and eliminating wheat helped with her symptoms a great deal.
  8. Huh. Sonic is fairly new around here, but I never even considered tipping. I figured it was like any fast food place. FTR, here everyone is paid at least minimum wage...$9.04 right now.
  9. My daughter is a...fussy...sleeper. She likes routine, things in their proper place, specific blankets...and WILL.NOT. sleep without an eyecover. She's been this way as long as I can remember.
  10. My daughter is 11 and has insomnia. Her doctor prescribed TV-free evenings and melatonin (5mg) as needed. :)
  11. THAT is hilarious! Our AppleTV pulls pictures from everywhere, so we often have embarrassing pics pop up.
  12. I thought no, but then looked again and tipped my monitor a bit and I see it. :D
  13. I think it is really easy to blame parenting, but plenty of good people are the product of terrible/abusive parents and plenty of good people raise terrible children. Anyone who has raised a difficult child knows that kids are free to make choices that differ from what they have been taught by their parents and that children are terribly difficult to control. ;)
  14. AlsO every single school cheer squad around here offers camps for elementary kids at some point annually. That's their big fundraiser.
  15. What kind of cheer program are you looking for. Around here there are lots of options. The Little Gym offers cheer for littles. Youth football teams offer sideline cheer and often much less intense competition cheer. Then there are more competitive teams at gymnastics or cheer gyms. My daughter's cheer gym offers cheer for littles with classes just once a week.
  16. I was terribly embarrassed as a child by my arm hair. It was such a relief the first time I shaved it off (as an adult). I wish I would have done it when I was younger.
  17. My daughter (11) and I both shave our arms. My daughter uses one of those razors with the soap attached. :)
  18. And if you have a burrowing dog around, keep the box HIGH up. My brother's dog got to the low shelf our box of owl pellets was on, opened the box, and spread bones everywhere. I was traumatized.
  19. I've been to England and Canada. My husband was in the Navy and has visited numerous countries. 2 of my children have visited other countries, my son sailed to Canada and my daughter went to England with me. My other two children will go to Canada with us at the end of the month.
  20. It's really important for my daughter to feel like she fits in. None of her friends are homeschooled, she's young looking and much less developed than her friends. I want her to feel like she's ok. :)
  21. I just looked through the horrific cheer make up pictures and really they look fine on camera. It's funny because it's really strong make up, but I guess it suits the purpose and does help them to look natural onstage. Funny stuff. Anyway, this is my daughter after her makeover and make up lessons. The woman did a really nice job and while my daughter looks lovely, she doesn't look made up or trashy or anything.
  22. This is a hard one for me. My daughter is 11. Lots if her friends wear makeup and that's fine with me. My daughter just looks so young for her age. She's small...usually she'll be the same size as the 8 or 9 year olds in a group of children. Recently she expressed a desire to learn how to apply makeup so she wouldn't feel left out at sleepovers where makeovers are apparently a common activity. I happened to be visiting my salon the next day and the makeup lady had an opening and gave her a lesson. It was great. She still doesn't wear any makeup, but I might pick some up for her to use at parties. FTR, she does wear very dark and hideous makeup for cheerleading performances, so I think she won't have any desire to wear strong colors for every day. That stuff is hard to remove. I might share a picture if I can do it easily.
  23. Do you know what is dangerous to do while driving??? Sneezing! Good golly that's a tough one for me.
  24. I think, if there must be laws, the laws must adapt. Using GPS is legal. Listening to music is legal.
  25. I agree with this. The problem is all of the other dangerous things. It's easy to say that you are a safe driver because you don't text and drive, but there were distraction caused accidents long before cell phones.
