Amira
Either in the US or elsewhere, if you can get one, if you're celebrating US Thanksgiving next week. I'm wondering about frozen, generic, whole turkeys, not anything fancy- just what's on sale this week. If the price per pound is different depending on the size, I'm looking for turkeys that are about 15-20 pounds. Thanks!
Jennifer3141
I'm paying about $120 for a heritage, non-GMO, organic turkey on Monday. I won't know how much Tom weighs until Monday because he will be killed Sunday. He should be between 28-35 pounds. Part of me wants to kidnap him Sunday and part of me thinks he's going to be delicious.
Miss Peregrine
About $12 for a 20 lb. Jennie-O.
MrsMommy
75 cents a pound here this year, which is pretty high compared to what I've paid the last few years.
Laurie4b
So far, stores are charging 47cents per pound, but I expect that that may have gone down as of today. (Most are on a Wed-Wed ad schedule.) That's for your basic frozen turkey. I saw fresh turkeys at Whole Foods, and I think they were $2.50/pound. Erica in OR
Cheapest is 49 cents a pound, if you buy $150 worth of stuff. I bought mine last week for 69 cents a pound, with a $35 purchase. Goes up from there, if you want to head into Butterball or organic territory. Erica in OR
beaners
I've seen 99 cents per pound for both fresh and frozen, but nothing less than that. I wanted to put a few away for later in the year, but I was hoping they would be cheaper.
Truscifi
.79/lb last week for generic store brand. It may go down this week though.
G5052
I paid 49 cents a pound for frozen store-brand, minimally processed turkey on Monday with a $50 purchase, one only. The flier we got in yesterday's paper said 79 cents a pound, and that was what the other stores said too. I'm glad I already got mine! itsheresomewhere
39 cents/lb for certain brands at certain stores. Ours is a organic turkey who is 2.50-3.00lb depending on how much he weighs. I won't find out until next week.
SparklyUnicorn
I'm getting a free turkey. The deal is you spend $250 over a period of 5 weeks and you get a free bird up to 23 pounds. The other stores that don't do the free turkey thing are charging 59 cents per pound for the store brand.
sunflowerlady
Publix has them for 59 cent a pound.
Crimson Wife
$0.99/lb. for frozen standard with $25 min purchase and $1.69/lb. for fresh standard. Organic frozen is $2.19/lb. and I'm not seeing a listing for fresh organic. DH is eating duck, which is $1.99/lb. For the kids and me, I bought a package of organic turkey thighs and a package of organic drumsticks (we prefer dark meat). Those were $3.99/lb. so definitely a premium over buying an whole bird. But I have no desire to cook a whole huge bird when it's just 1 adult and 3 kids who will be eating turkey.
indigomama
Wow, I'm jealous of those low prices. Just bought one today. $1.18/lb!
MIch elle
.69/lb
Susan in TN
Kroger has them on sale this week for 59 cents/lb, limit 1. Unfortunately I cant find any larger than 16 lb. I wanted a 24lb turkey, but bought a 16lb plus a 6lb turkey breast.
prairiewindmomma
$1.19/lb is the least expensive I have found.... Heritage organic varieties are going between $3-5/lb.
cjzimmer1
one store has them on sale jenneo 55 cents a pound or butterball for 99 cents a pound, limit one bird with purchase of $25. Aldi's wants $1.19 for Butterball. One store has get a free jenneo turkey with purchase of ham (at 3.99 a pound which is more than double the price of ham anywhere else) and the other grocery store doesn't put anything on sale (their basics grocery prices are great on everything but meat so I just buy meat elsewhere) so I don't buy meat there because it's always more expensive than sale prices. jrn
Sale price of 89 cents/pound
Loowit
I got one for free when I spent over $150 with a coupon. The coupon has a sliding scale depending on how much you spent. It was 49¢ per pound if you spend $100 and 69¢ per pound if you spend $50. It is just a generic store brand turkey.
Southern Ivy
Cheapest is Jennie-O at Aldi's for 99cents/lb.
Laura Corin
An extra large frozen turkey ( your weight range) costs £26 (about USD 39) at a standard supermarket. It would be cheaper at Aldi, I'm sure. That's £3.72 a kilo, which I think is USD 2.65 a pound. That's in southern Scotland. L
Joyofsixreboot
$.69/lb on sale this week at Kroger.
Amy in NH
Around here it's been $.49/lb for a generic frozen turkey up to 25lb at our local supermarkets for the past three weeks.
SemiSweet
Man, I forget how expensive it is here until I see stuff like this (and gas prices everywhere but here). I just paid $1.29/lb for a Foster Farms turkey from Costco, that's probably as cheap as it gets around here though I haven't checked the commissary. Cafdog
I paid $4.99/lb for a Diestel Heirloom fresh turkey at Whole Foods. I'm impatient. I HATE defrosting turkeys!
Amira
Thanks for all your answers. I'm trying to convince the rest of the family that buying a turkey here for the equivalent of $1.60/pound isn't worth it. Especially since turkey isn't that good anyway. I'd take a rotisserie chicken any day. :)
MrsMommy
I'm fascinated by how much this varies around the country. I get cost of living and everything, but you'd think something this specific, that really only comes around once a year, would be more even than other stuff that fluctuates. It's really interesting! KarenNC
47 cents a lb with $25 purchase, limit one, at one grocery for Jennie-O (not my favorite brand in general), and the same with a higher purchase (can't remember exactly right now, between $35 and $50) for a generic brand at another store. Butterballs are going for 97- 99 cents a lb. All of these are frozen, 10-24 lbs.
