Kathryn
DS7 got underwear with his favorite superhero on them for Christmas. He won't wear them because he thinks that only babies wear underwear with pictures. So, when did your son stop wearing character underwear? SorrelZG
Superhero underwear comes in adult sizes. Just sayin'.
trlt
My 20 yo son still wears them! Of course they are boxers not briefs! They always have those type of boxers in the mens sections at stores!
Cinder
Ds1 was about 5, I think. I remember ds2 never liked them which was a slight problem because it was hard to find the smaller sizes in plain white.
amo_mea_filiis.
My 8 year old loves his new angry bird drawers. He'll only wear underwear if they're fun! Lol.
Myra
My teenage boys wear boxers with superheros and with seasonal themes still! Myra
Scarlett
I think ds was about 10. He would probably still wear a character if it was a cool character.
JessReplanted
My almost 10 year old still has some character underwear, and he doesn't have a problem with it.
redsquirrel
I am pretty sure my 12 year old would be fine with it. However, both my boys are ballet dancers and they need black underwear for class. As they get older they take more and more classes and it gets easier to just buy only black. We own the worlds largest collection of boy black underwear. It is weird.
Crafty Mathy Mom
Ds just turned 9, and he still likes to wear them.
Pippen
Those went out at around 4th grade and returned again around age 16. No matter the age, I'd respect that preference.
saraha
My 13 yo could not care less what is on his underwear as long as they are comfortable.
J-rap
haha -- I don't remember about my son, but I know one of my daughters wore them into high school simply because they still fit her for that long. They seemed to stretch as she grew! :)
tabrizia
DS is 5 and not wearing character underwear, but that is only because the boxer briefs he likes don't come themed, if they did he would wear character undies still.
Truscifi
Ds9 says he is fine with characters, but he is fine with plain underwear too - the only thing he cares about is that they are boxer briefs.
Lolly
Mine stopped when he decided he didn't like it. I don't remember how old he was. If your ds thinks he is too old for it, he is. There is a good possibility that when he is older he will like it again. :)
Cosmos
I don't think my ds ever wore character underwear. I wouldn't even know where to find it! But he was very picky about comfort. For years, we had to get pricy Hanna Andersson because it was the only kind I could find with a covered waistband. Then I finally found Hanes made some, though it's very hard to find in stores. So it's always been all about the comfort here.
Heather in Neverland
Around age 6. My boys wear Hanes boxer briefs.
Garga
Age 7 for my oldest and 5 for my youngest. Once the oldest stopped, the youngest wanted to be like his big brother. I was disappointed, but bought the white ones.
Wabi Sabi
Probably around 4/5 years old. He's more of a boxer brief kind of kid and the brand he prefers (for comfort/fit reasons) generally only come in plain, solid colors. Now at 8 he'd probably find them too babyish. Chris in VA
Maybe around K age.
Miss Marple
around 8-10 years old. Then they went through the "plain" phase. Then they discovered American Eagle printed boxers. Now they only wear printed AE boxers or brightly colored compression boxers (well, one boy likes the compression boxers).
nmoira
Superhero underwear comes in adult sizes. Just sayin'. This. I know a couple well-adjusted :D middle aged men who wear character underwear. ETA: But no women who do. Hmmmm.

Crimson Wife
My 7 y.o. loves his character undies. My oldest DD insisted on plain pastel undies when she was 8.
catz
LOL - my DH has a couple pair. He's into comics and graphic novels and he's gotten some in his Christmas stocking. My 12 year old ds still wears them, but he still has size 8 underwear in good condition that still fit (he is tiny for age) so we haven't phased out the star wars ones. As I replace them, I do get plain ones. But I honestly don't think he cares one way or another. He is no fashion maven in terms of outer wear or underwear! texasmama
I think about five years old. It's been quite awhile since I've washed any character undies.
Joshin
DS12 switched from character undies at about 8, to character boxers. Makes sense, since DH still wears boxers advertising his favorite superheroes. Heck, I'd still be wearing my underoos if they made them for adult women, I loved my Supergirl and Wonder Woman sets as a kid! DS7 is still in character undies, but he's outgrowing them so we'll see what he picks out next time we go sock and undie shopping. I expect he'll stick with them for as long as possible. He is my kid that refuses to wear matching socks because he says it "stifles him."
jenL
My almost 10 year old still has some character underwear, and he doesn't have a problem with it. Same here. Lego Ninjago and Lego Star Wars are his favorites.
mlktwins
My boys are 7.5 -- one wears Hanes boxer briefs because they are more comfortable on him (he would wear character underwear though if they had them in the briefs) and the other wears character underwear (loves them). twoxcell
When they no longer came in his size, so probably around 7ish. He now wears size 14/16 so they don't make any for him. If they did he would wear them as long as they were like super heroes or Star Wars. He is 9.5 by the way.
Farrar
My kids couldn't care less about most of their clothes beyond comfort and a few special T-shirts... and they really don't care about their underwear.
MrsBanjoClown
Mostly my boys (8 and 6) wear plain white, but that is because it is what I bought for them. They each have a couple pair of print boxer briefs from 77kids (pirate/monster) and ds8 has a couple of pairs of solid color boxer briefs as well. I think they prefer the prints to the plain white. sbgrace
My boys, 8 heading to 9, are one still enjoying characters and the other not. I'd probably use the responses here to let him know some older kids wear them and if he ever changes his mind he can try them out. Then I'd probably leave them in the drawer for a while as an option. However, I'd let him be done with characters if that's what he wants. Obviously, I did do that here!
Catherine
Hmmm...my college student still wears Star Wars undies-could you tell him that? But your son is probably sensitive about being "babyish" so his response is understandable. Catherine

blondeviolin
My son just got rid of his, but only because he told me he prefers boxer briefs. If they had Phinead and Ferb boxer briefs, he'd so wear them.
WiseOwlKnits
I don't do character underwear past the first ones they get when they potty train (I only do them then as an incentive to potty train). Lily and John both trained shortly before they turned 2. So they were done with character underwear by the time they were 3ish.

Kathryn
Just to clarify, I have not and do not plan on forcing him to wear them. This came about because last time I bought underwear for him, about six months ago, I bought plain ones and dealt with his disappointment about that by telling him that that was what "big boys" wear. He *wanted* character underwear then, but I had bought plain. So, I got him his favorite character for Christmas, but because of my earlier statement, he was under the impression that they were babyish. I don't care one way or the other, but I suspect that he really wants to wear them but is denying himself because of my earlier statement. So, I figured I'd ask what other boys do about this.
