We are doing and really enjoy:

Oak Meadow 2

Singapore Math 1b/2a

Rod and Staff Math 2 (for review)

Lapbooks on topics that she is interested in

Oak Meadow includes readers, phonics, composition/copywork, science, social studies, read alouds and a little math. It goes at a nice slow pace and is all about animals and nature.:001_smile:

or what did you do?

Spelling??

Science??

Art??

With my oldest, a natural speller who learns to spell while he reads, I used Spelling Power for a little while that year. Then we dropped a spelling curriculum altogether in favor of a running word list (words from his writing). My second, who has dyslexia, uses All About Spelling and it has been wonderful for her.

For science we have used a mishmash of various experiences, videos, science magazines, and books (including lots of Usborne and books from Sonlight's science). We also use Real Science 4 Kids.

Art is Meet the Masters. Love it!

Planned for my little guy next year (so far):

Singapore Math 2A & B

FLL 1/2 (part 2)

WWE2

Handwriting - probably Zaner Bloser gr. 2/3 & sporadic copywork using StartWrite software.

Spelling Workout C

History Odyssey level 1 Ancients (We've started this already), then on to Middle Ages level whenever we finish. He's young for grade (turns 7 at the end of October) so I'm not planning to get to Modern times until gr.5.

Science - my own plan based on state standards using Science Scope to design it (Wish me luck--mostly in not overplanning!). Hoping to get a good health unit in there. I'm open to suggestions--prefer secular.

Art - Meet the Masters

PE - co-op, using FitDeck at home.

Music - Hmmm.... don't know about this one yet. He may be ready for some kind of lessons this year.

Foreign language - He pulls Song School Latin out on his own from time to time. I've just started learning Latin myself so plan to give a little more guidance in this for him over the next year.

Wow, that sounds like a lot. I can't believe my baby is going to be a second grader. :001_unsure:

I like to balance "traditional" with "creative" (my terms).

Here's our plan (subject to change ;) )

Music & Memory Work: Piano, Singing, Memory Work

Weekly:

Nature Study (Inc. Patterns of Nature from R&S)

BF Geography with Holling C. Holling Books

Our Father's World (Geography from R&S--maybe)

Health -- I may add in cooking (informally) to this, since ds is very interested!

Music & Art (Sol-fa singing, art projects, listening to Classical Kids)

So far, I'm leaning toward Ambleside Year 2 for our afternoon readings.

(I was going to do LCC and study Ancient Egypt next year, but ds decided he wanted to read all about them NOW!!! So we're listening to SOTW 1 on audio and reading about the ancients now ;) )

Here is what I'm thinking about but have not decided for sure on:

Math: k12, although not 100% sure

Evan Moore Daily Math

Word Problems

Math Gears

Sum Swamp and other such games

English: Voyages in English 2 after we finish 1 since we started this late in 1st grade, we love this for the time being and so we are sticking with it.

Thinking of adding Wordly Wise 2.

Evan Moore Daily Language

Spelling Workout B and C, We started workout A late but we are progressing quickly so hopefully we will be on B before the end of 1st grade

Still looking for a handwriting program but will probably use HWOT

History: Story of the World 2 activity guide with supplements from various sources

Geography: Finishing the Rand McNally Beginner Map and Map activities book, possibly Galloping the Globe. Looking at adding Evan Moor Daily Geography.

Science: k12 unless something just jumps out at me

Reading: I'll still read aloud harder books and he'll just keep practicing reading with books on his level.

Other things I'm looking at adding:

Evan Moor How to Teach Art to Children

Geopuzzles

Usborne Art Treasury

Qwirkle

Logic Links

allowance game

tri-words

1st time analogies

Oh heck I have so many other things I can't even list them all yet. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to do things next year. For K we used all k12 and started this year with all k12 and slowly paired back on things as we realized they weren't working for us so it's a learn as we go process. Right now, in 1st grade, we like how our set up is so I'd like to try to copy that for 2nd grade.

Definite:

Math: Singapore 2A/2B and MEP

LA: FLL 2, WWE 2, poetry memorization (I pick different poems than what is in FLL), lots of read-alouds and independent reading (some to go with history, some not)

History: SOTW 2 with AG

Bible/Memory Work:We're slowly reading through Finding Jesus in Genesis now and will likely do Finding Jesus in Exodus next. Memory work goes with that or with his Sunday School class.

Music: Continue Musikgarten Keyboard class. He really wants to do drums, but I haven't found anyone who will teach kids under 7 or 8. We'll see about this next year. I'd like to do more with composer study/listening to music but haven't been so good about that.

Not sure:

Latin: Not sure about doing it or if we do what program to use.

Foreign Language: If we don't do Latin I considered having dh do French with him.

Art: A definite weak spot in our homeschool. It's pretty hit or miss. I'd like to find a way to be more consistent and better at this.

Nature study: Another weak spot. I'd like to be more intentional in this.

Activities: Cub Scouts, co-op (maybe, we are not in one now but are thinking about it for next year, mainly for the social aspect and not academic). Swimming/gymnastics/soccer/T-ball (not all at once, I'm not nuts. These are things he's liked in the past and I usually have him do 1-2 physical activities, especially in the winter.)

Math: Saxon 3

English: Queen's Language Lessons for the Very Young Vol. 1

Spelling: Calvert Spelling CD-rom 3rd or 4th grade (He's working through 3rd right now, but I suspect he'll need another year before moving on.)

Penmanship: Pentime Penmanship Grade 2

Science: McGraw-Hill Science 2

History: Story of the World Vol. 2

Art & Music appreciation: Informal projects and discussions
