  3. We've used apple cider vinegar with good success. Getting rid of warts is a long drawn out process. Otherwise we've also used over the counter freezing medication with success. But you have to be persistent and soaking before applying medicine is a key! Oh... and I wouldn't suggest laser treatments. I had a bunch of warts on both feet and had laser treatments done.... they are very painful!! IMO not worth it!

  17. My 6th grader uses History Odyssey, but my 5th grader uses MOH. I like both for different reasons. MOH has lapbooks with it which is great too because my child who enjoys "stories" for history also likes to lapbook. I think MOH is a good choice for what you're looking for! Easy to implement and I love the Biblical worldview!
  18. My 11 y/o started FF last year and is finishing up this year. He had 2 years of Latin prior (Prima Latina and Latina Christiana I) so realize where he's coming from. He is also very independent. Day One: Watch DVD. Study the lesson in the book. Day Two-? Do a worksheet. Now, my dd10 is not so independent. She's taking a break from Latin to conquer some things in math. She's finishing up LC1, but will move onto FF after that. Here's my plan for her: Day One: Watch DVD with Mom (She does much better if I'm watching with her otherwise she can't remember what she watched.)
  19. I've used both and prefer R&S. We went through GWG3. I ordered level 4 and it looked just like 3 to me. I ordered R&S and we like it much better. So now I only use GWG up to 2nd grade. We don't do any of the oral exercises in R&S. I read through the lesson in the student book with dc. I make sure they understand. Then I assign exercises from the written portion. If there are a lot I only assign half. If there is a lot of writing I don't have them write the whole sentence, only the particular part needed. I like the variety of R&S and the fact that my kids have to th
  20. Just FYI to whoever is trying to make Turkish Delight... I hear it is tricky to get right... good luck! :001_smile:
  21. :iagree: He's probably a perfectionist by nature. Smart too... I know those type... they get better with age, but some aspects never do go away. Finding ways to help him persevere when it is important or to leave it for another day/time when it isn't. Slow and steady wins the race... time pressure seems to upset my ds who is this way. I try not to pressure him, but sometimes it is necessary and that's when he is stretched to the next level.... I agree you will handle it much better than most teachers!
  22. I didn't look at where you live, but just a thought... we're doing astronomy this summer because it will be nice enough to be outside at night to study the stars... granted it will be late, but not frigid! You might want to add in some astronomy...
  23. I just got "Take Me Back" (DK Publishing) a few weeks ago. It's written with a good sense of humor... and spans from the beginning of history right up to current day (last entry is "War on Terror"). I would have to say I'm not thrilled with the binding of the book though (very cheap) and at least 2 of the pages got messed up as they were inserted into the book.... I won't use this as a spine, per say... but I will use it to supplement. I know my son will love it!
  24. We use Bob Books. Also Abeka has some little readers that I purchased too... you may want to try some of the "box curriculum" places... a lot of them have little readers that would fit the bill... I haven't found luck with short vowel only books at the library... most of the "beginner readers" have too many sight/long vowel words in them for very beginners. Maybe someone else will have something they've found that works well though... Oh, another beginner reader I've heard good things about is "I am Sam" books... we haven't used them so can't give an opinion.
  25. We use it and love it! We are just finishing up our body unit... heading into plants (we're going to start a veggie garden alongside our studies!). Then I'm really looking forward to starting Earth/Science and Astronomy... have all the books so we're ready to go!
