Granny_Weatherwax
I was at the elementary school this morning and ran in to my DS's 3rd grade teacher. I was struck by how things have changed between then and now. When she was a part of our lives there was no TS, no OCD, no depression, no suicide attempt. Life was easier - he was happy, outgoing, full of life, full of dreams. I think I'm mourning everything that has been lost for him, me, and our family and just needed to say something.

Guest
Hugs to you. I too remember when it become obvious that my child didn't 'fit'. Its made it very easy for us to not continue to be a part of the local community or the extended family, 'cause rejecting our child is rejecting us, and our worldview of 'everybody is included'. We've found other communities. I hope your lad does too. It's tough watching the child go into hiding and then emerge so cautiously. How is his scouting family at college working out? I cannot determine whether it's his choice or just part and parcel of the college environ. I had hoped the number of Eagles at his school would help him find a tribe, that whole bond of friendship thing and all. It hasn't worked out. Granny_Weatherwax
Thank you for the hugs and the kind words. I made it through the day (thanks to a long day of driving and coaching) and was able to fully enjoy the beautiful sunset we had in Chicagoland yesterday evening.

Guest
It's not. I cannot determine whether it's his choice or just part and parcel of the college environ. I had hoped the number of Eagles at his school would help him find a tribe, that whole bond of friendship thing and all. It hasn't worked out. My thought was it was the college environment. It just took time to find similar people, the whole concept of rising tide lifts all boats is hidden among those who see the world as a network of favoritism and freeze out competitors. My Eagle met fellow Eagles first day at the dorm, but nothing came of it as he decided he'd rather work part time and that meant he couldn't participate in the service club activities. Outdoor club was being run by adults, so he ended up finding a lot of city kids who wanted to get outdoors, and led them, forming a friend group in the process. I hope your son will look into Independents, the group on my campus was pretty diverse and open to all.
