laundrycrisis
First by hand, then in the dishwasher, which is nothing but a big sani-rinser and drying rack. :D

JFSinIL
silverware and cups/glasses, plate go in dish washer. Pots and pans I do in the sink. So - both.

NotAVampireLvr
First by hand, then in the dishwasher, which is nothing but a big sani-rinser and drying rack. :D :iagree: My dishwasher just saves me that extra step. It doesn't work well for cleaning.
learningmama
By default, I have to wash by hand. No dishwasher in he place we are renting. :( It's a hassle, especially when I get behind, but I do like it that we don't have to listen to a dishwasher run forever. Where we used to live, the dishwasher was new, but cheap and it was noisy, stinky, and often did not drain well.

Lisa in the UP of MI
All of our dishes are done after supper by dh. He fills the dishwasher, then washes the rest by hand. I have rinsed the dishes after each meal and stacked them on the counter.

Elinor Everywhere
How do you prefer to wash dishes? Do you wash by hand or do you use the dishwasher? ETA: I'm not talking about pots and pans. HRAAB
I actually like to wash dishes by hand. Light a candle, have a cup of tea on the windowsill, hot sudsy water, some music. I do admit I've never met anyone else who enjoys washing dishes by hand, though.
Julie Smith
By hand, our dishwasher is used for storing bed, that's all it is good for. What I find funny is my cousin owns a restaurant so she says things like, "I was talking to the dishwasher". Meaning the person at the restaurant who washes dishes. gardening momma
I couldn't answer the poll. I prefer both. I sometimes load the dishwasher, but often don't have enough to run a load of dishes for a couple of days. I often do a bunch of dishes by hand because I think I get more done that way. I have so many items that can't go in the dishwasher that once I get going doing those by hand, I wash a number of other items that could go in the dishwasher. So sometimes I prefer just loading it up and running it, but other times I know I'll get a lot more done by doing it by hand, so I often choose to do it that way. Hannah C.
Everything goes in the dishwasher, including pots and pans. The only exceptions are items which are not dishwasher safe, like the ice cream scoop and the knives.

jenL
Absolutely, unequivocably I prefer the dishwasher. We went 10 years without having one, so I detest washing dishes by hand.
Lovin Learnin
Where is the "other" choice in your poll?? I use the dishwasher for plates, glasses, and silverware. I wash the pots and pans by hand.
DarlaS
Mostly I use the dishwasher, so that's what I voted. You needed an option for both though. I wash certain knives, wooden items, cookware (only the hard anodized nonstick) and glassware in the sink. Also parts of the stove etc. I'm always done with those few things long before the dishwasher's done. Even if I ended up washing nearly half of them by hand, I'm glad to have it. I've had enough of standing in the kitchen by the time we wash dinner dishes.
Mommyfaithe
I wash by hand....and coercion:glare: no dishwasher....and can't put in a new one until kitchen re-do...which I can't afford.....grrrrrrrr!

Mynyel
I prefer the Dishwasher but we are doing them by hand. The DW is broken and I ain't callin' the blasted handyman to fix it. He bugs me.
Denise in Florida
I need the "other" option. :001_smile: I have no preference. We lived for several years in a house without a dishwasher and it did not bother me a bit. We have one now and sometimes I use it and sometimes I don't. It is definitely not a make or break appliance for me.
lynn
It depends. Some days I don't mind being left alone in the kitchen washing dishes by myself while everyone is busy and some days I have the kids load up the dishwasher.
Guest
Dishwasher! If it can't go in the dishwasher we find something that can. The only exception is my muffin pan. It says it's dishwasher safe, but I didn't like how it washed, so now I handwash it.
Kirch
Well, I prefer "by dishwasher," but since I don't have one, I have to go with second choice. Actually, though, "by husband" is pretty nice too, especially when it's a surprise.:D Oh, and in a couple of years, if we still don't have a dishwasher, I'm sure we'll make extensive use of "by kid." :tongue_smilie:
min
Dishwasher, except the very few things that aren't dishwasher safe, or which are too big to fit. I blitz out the blender with water and dishwashing liquid, then it just needs a quick rinse. I'll stack up and run again later if it doesn't all fit. (It uses way less water to run the dishwasher than to wash by hand, though that's not my reason. :) Still, I live in a place with water restrictions and every bit helps.) I always put in pots, pans, dishes, plates, sharp knives, wooden spoons and cutting boards - wooden and plastic. My favourite board was lost in a move, but it must have been in the dishwasher practically every day for the better part of a decade. :( Min

Home_s_Cool
But I don't have a choice - no dishwasher here. We would really like one but I have a small kitchen and it would take out valuable cabinet space. I have 4-dishwashers - but the dishes are never ending and always around. At least with a dishwasher you can hide your dirties!

Shellers
I have a dishwasher but wash dishes by hand. The dishwasher deposits too much white junk on the dishes. I haven't used my dishwasher in about six years.
stripe
I ran it empty with vinegar and it helped a lot with white gunk. Then I periodically add vinegar to the wash.
