  1. I have painted two bedroom floors. I am happy with the results for a low cost was to spruce up a room. (Not sure how much of this process would apply to a cork floor) The two rooms: 1. daughters' room: carpet over oak flooring (that was not in great shape) - painted white 2. sons' room: carpet over sub-flooring - painted blue For prepping: removed carpet/nails, filled in holes/missing boards, then used an electric sander. Finally, used Kilz Primer to cover any spots that might bleed through the paint. Painted with two coats of porch/patio paint. Sealed only the boys room with Varathane Floor Finish (high traffic formula) Chose not to seal the white painted floor because I wanted it to wear slightly to look old. The room has a beach theme, we were wanting a worn beach cottage look for the floor. I've only had an issue with the white floor with black marks from their luggage when they are home from college. So I will probably touch it up and use the Varathane Floor Finish. The boys's room still looks great. I think sealing it was the key. It is not a high traffic area like your living room, but they are not gentle with it and it has held up great.
  2. If you're concerned, I would contact them immediately. You're correct - if would be better to have it on record (maybe a photo to send them). I've only had good experiences with Amazon in fixing issues. With 4 kids in college, we've rented close to 40 books through them. We did receive a rented textbook from them and a large portion of the book was missing. They immediately sent a replacement (with all the pages!).
  3. I use the following three ways to get meds for our 2 dogs: Drs. Foster and Smith good prices, very easy to work with and very nice people we mainly buy our dogs' heartworm meds here Amazon.com One of our dogs is on Citravet the price is 1/3 less than the vet and of course it's great to have it shipped to our front door - no prescription needed also, we buy the dog's tick medicine here Our pharmacy - I know you said online and not sure if this is an option to you, but might be worth checking locally used twice for one of our dog's antibiotics this was by far the cheapest option - as in 1/5 the price the vet wanted to charge and we got it the day we needed it
  4. Here's our experience: My dd19 transferred 30 credits from our cc here in CT to a private 4-year college in AR with no problems. I included those cc classes as dual enrollment on her high school transcript. She also went through the NCAA clearinghouse in order to play soccer on their D2 team. This semester she is applying to the College of Nursing. We have not encountered any problems with her cc credits being accepted.
  5. Hope you are better this morning. I've done this a few times and it does dissolve. Seems to cause a slight burning feeling probably since you are applying it directly to the infected area. Yeast Assassin is my favorite oral product for infections.
  6. For dc's transcripts the title is "High School Transcript" Under the "School Information" section: Homeschool Program Parents name, Teachers Phone # email address That is the only place I mention the word "homeschool"
  7. I'm sorry this happened to you. I feel your pain - it happened to me this year. If you signed the papers and "rejected" there additional insurance - there really is no recourse. My insurance company did check the law in my state because if the car is rented by someone else for your use (i.e. a company) they may be required to cover the damages, not you or your insurance. Unfortunately this is not the case in CT. My van was in the shop getting a new transmission so the dealership rented me a car through Enterprise. I had the rental for less than 48 hours. When I took it back they found a scratch on the side bumper. I had only driven it to 2 stores, home and to take my kids to soccer practice. Otherwise it was parked in our garage. All I can think of is someone hit it while backing out of a parking spot next to me while I was in the store. The rental car place has their own system of taking it to their chosen repair facility to get an estimate - we had no control over this. The damage $530. I called my insurance company - State Farm - they handled everything. I paid our $250 deductible that covers rental cars, SF covered the balance. The Enterprise "Damage Recovery Specialist" was extremely rude. State Farm was wonderful and told me they would handle all correspondence upon my request. I was fuming mad about being in a corner and having no recourse - I agree with you it seems to be a bit of a scam. There are scratches all over these cars and this scratch would not cause the car to work improperly. But I really had no say in this, the damage was done it wasn't there before when I took the car.
  8. My dd19 is a D2 soccer player in her second year of playing. She had 9 cc courses on her high school transcript that were part of her NCAA packet. Showing a cc course = 1 high school credit was never questioned by the NCAA. They accepted all the paperwork I sent. But, she was processed under the "old" NCAA homeschool requirements - there were no Core-Course Worksheet (CCW) to submit for each of the 16 required high school credits. I would not think the new requirements change anything regarding cc credits. As others have mentioned, call them to verify for yourself.
  9. The bank we use in town has a notary - took 2 minutes to get done.
  10. Yes, we had to do this for our local community college when our dd19 was dual-enrolled. The university where she attends now did not require it. I did think it was somewhat strange - but it's what the cc wanted and it wasn't an inconvenience.
  11. From my experience with 3 of my kids this is what worked for them: 8th grade: Alg 1 9th grade: Alg 2 and Geom. (continue into 10th if needed to finish both). One week MWF they do Alg 2, Tues/Thurs is Geom. The next week it is switched. 10th grade: Pre-Cal (or finish up Alg/Geom) 11th/12th grade: College level math at the local community college (Pre-Cal, Calculus, etc.) My husband (mechanical engineer) felt this was the best plan to keep algebra fresh while doing geometry. He did not want them taking only Geom. then going back to Alg 2 or taking algebra 1 & 2 back-to-back. This did not make "math" sense to him - even though this is how we both did it back in the 80s! My dd18 had no problems with the math portion of the PSAT, SAT, community college placement test with this plan.
  12. Have you had him checked by his doctor? My dd18 has poor posture due to a hereditary curvature in her spine. She was found to have a 12% curve in her upper back - so no intervention. She is in amazing shape due to playing Div 2 soccer in college. In addition to playing soccer last fall, she has been working out (weight training, swimming, etc.). Yes her back is stronger but it has not really improved her posture. She is built like my dh, who has to fight it constantly. For them to stand up "straight" it actually is very tiring and is somewhat painful. Yes, I still pull back on her shoulders reminding her to "open up her chest". It is worse when she is tired.
  13. BS in Scientific Nutrition, a path to becoming a dietician, but I never did the required internship and test.
  14. Sounds like a nice house. For us, here in New England, a house like that would have to be pushing $400K+
  15. We are up fairly early. For myself, 4:45-5:00, my dh gets up at 5:00, then my 2 ds are up around 5:30 to eat breakfast with their dad. Plus in the winter they start his truck for him to warm it up. My dd16 gets up around 7AM. When they were younger I preferred to be up more than an hour before them to get myself going for the day.
  16. As someone else mentioned this may be dependent on what job you are pursuing as far as the importance of the school you received your degree from. It also may depend on if you will need a masters in your particular job market. My dh gets asked about this by parents with highschoolers interested in the engineering field. What school is best. His advice, focus more on getting into a good masters program. He is a mechanical engineer, they will not even consider someone with only a bachelors.
  17. Is he able to have dairy? My kids are very involved in sports and one of the best post-training/game drink is milk. If we are out of town I ice shelf-stable milk cartons for them. Is all fruit ruled out? We like raw energy bits/bars containing dates, nuts and dried fruit. This is another snack they have before/after a sports activity. They are simple to make and very tasty. I agree with you about the sports drinks. My kids rarely have Gatorade-type drinks unless someone offers one. So instead we use an electrolyte-based drink powder called Ultima Replenisher. It's sweetened with stevia - so this wouldn't work if he needs calories, but it's a great workout drink.
  18. From our experience with dd18, who is now in college pursuing nursing, this is the path we followed: At home she went through Pre-Cal. To acclimate her to college (before sending her 1500+ miles away) she started taking cc classes at age 16 (technically her junior year of hs) and began with one class that fall semester: Pre-Cal. Our reasoning for repeating what we did at home - the material was familiar, so the major adjustment would be the classroom experience. The next semester she took Calculus and that was it for math. This worked wonderfully - she gained major confidence and had to learn to advocate for herself - all while still at home. As far as the requirements for the nursing program she is now in (bachelor degree) - she went way beyond the math requirement. But my dh (mechanical engineer) believes in a strong math background, especially since this was an area of her strength.
  19. My dd18 studied Alg II and Geom. together, I believe she started when she was 14. Now my dd16 and ds14 are following the same path. One week, MWF they do Alg II and Geom. on T/Th. The next week they switch. We did not want them having such a long time perioed between Alg I and II so this was the best plan for us. It has worked for us.
  20. We are taking a partial break April 15-19, same as PS. Part of the week we are doing the Iowa tests.
  21. We rent an apartment above our house. Only once did we allow a dog to live there and it was only because they were our friends and needed a place for about 2 months. Otherwise no - we do not allow it for a couple of reasons: 1. damage - before we bought the house the guy upstairs had a dog that destroyed the carpet and an interior door 2. we have 2 labs and do not want extra animals on the property Personally, we had always been renters prior to buying this house and always had a lab. We never had a problem finding a place and never had to pay extra.
  22. Just putting out a "non-measuring" option: most of the time my 2 girls prefer to wear a sports bra. These you don't really need to measure for when you are in the preteen age group. The basic ones come in small/medium/large, etc. They also come in some really cute color/patterns. Alot of them have skinny straps similar to a normal bra.
  23. After completing Alg 1, our kids do Geom. and Alg 2 together. One week they do Geom on MWF and Alg 2 on T/Th. The next week they switch. This was my dh's idea, he did not want them having such a long stretch between Alg 1 and Alg 2.
  24. I am so sorry you are experiencing this and the frustration that comes from not getting treatment while feeling terrible. I can relate so much to this as I also struggled with getting a Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment while not being able to perform simple tasks and taking care of 4 small children at the time. Unfortunately, many doctors seem "Lyme illiterate". This has been my experience and I live near Lyme, CT where it was originally identified back in the 70s. There are numerous "experts" in the my area. I'm acutely aware that the energy to do day-to-day things for you is probably overwhelming at times. But please push to get this attended to. I now regret not being more of an advocate for my health. If you go back on antibiotics keep your gut healthy with probiotics, prebiotics, etc. I wish I had done more of this at the time. I was also tested for Lupus since I had the butterfly-rash across my checks - but that was negative. Here's what happened to me: I was bit in Sept 2001 - but not diagnosed till May 2002. I did three 10 day - cycles of doxycycline, then tested negative for Lyme. Doctors thought I was cured. The Lyme caused damage to my knee, so I needed surgery (a synovectomy) in 2003. My rheumotologist (who is a Lyme expert in my area) cleared me for the surgery based on the Lyme test being negative. Well - it wasn't - Lyme hybernates. That's the explanation I was given. After surgery the symptoms returned and the tests came back positive. The doctors got serious and I was put on a 28-day cycle of Rocephin. A PIC line was insert in my arm and I self-administerd the drug at home. This took care of the Lyme, but my immune system was shot. A year later symptons returned - Lyme tests were still negative, but I tested positive for Sjogren's Syndrome. It was imitating the Lyme symptoms. I now have to take 400mg of Plaquenil for the Sjogren's.
  25. Even though my kids are older - there's some great ideas. I especially like the reusable freezer pop molds for holding fruit smoothies. Didn't know they existed.
