I hadn't been in the classroom for 15 years. I haven't worked for 10 and was a school counselor for 5 prior to that. I have been trying to get a counseling position for next year and kept not getting calls OR (as was the case 3 times this year and 2 times last year) I would interview for counseling and then get a call offering me an English position. OY! So, I had an interview last week and they said, "We have filled the English position, so would you be interested in interviewing for counseling?" I was so excited, only to get home and get an email from the principal saying, "Hey, we are thinking of creating a new English position for you!" I emailed back and said, "I would very much prefer counseling but would be open to discussing the English position." I JUST GOT THE COUNSELING JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am shocked and excited! And you know what the most interesting thing about this job is? I didn't even apply for it. I mean, I have an application on file with the district, but I didn't apply for this particular job. They did a search for "counselor" in the online system and found my name and they called me! The job hadn't even posted!
