jenn&charles
My daughter has a chance to win a free textbook from her college bookstore for next semester. The first person to correctly identify what's in the picture gets it...No one has been able to correctly guess since yesterday so she still has a chance! Please help, if you have any idea what the attached pic is! Thanks!!!!!!!!!! I added a few details 2 posts down....(sorry that I didn't just originally edit this post but for convenience sake I'll paste it here too): so far the items are not: bookmarks neck warmers bow ties head bands wrist bands bottle covers ski covers or snowshoe covers scarves They are about 2 feet long and 6 inches wide at the end, 3 inches in the center, thin and not stretchy. idnib
I'm thinking I would use them to hang a wreath on the door and change it for the holidays. Seems like they belong to something interchangeable. Could also possibly be holiday napkin rings.

Julie Smith
Burp cloth I agree with this one. My first guess was reusable pads. But unless they are for a giant.... Yup, burp cloths.
jenn&charles
Earmuffs, cumber-bun and burp pads are all guessed now but not correct. Thanks for the replies. We're still trying to figure them out.

beaners
It's probably not what they are, but they remind me a lot of the "decorative" covers that someone at my OB's office sews for the stirrups.
Wheres Toto
Are they just a single layer of cloth? Doubled up? Open in any way, like a tube? Stiff or flexible? Any weight added to them in any way? They kind of resemble those weighted things that hold books open but that would only make sense if they had some weight and/or stiffness to them. That seems like a good guess. Here's an image of a homemade book weight. Definitely some resemblance there. (Edited to delete image)

Halftime Hope
If we knew mroe about how the contest came about, maybe we oculd help more. Is this something the bookstore sells? Clearly it is homemade, and probalby sold as a set to be used throughout the seasons. Who is offering the contest? Is the college private or secular? Those kinds of things that give us more info to work with might help.

Here's the link to the FB page where they are running the contest: https://www.facebook.com/mercedcollegebookstore?fref=ts It's a secular junior college and I *think* the bookstore is going to sell them, but I'm not sure. The contest was just posted to their FB page with this text: If anyone can tell us what these are, the winner will recieve a free book for 1 of their classes for the Spring 13 term. See store for details. Thanks for all the guesses! I'm so curious....I really want to know what they are now, LOL.

Stacia
Do they have pockets? Could it be something to hang around your neck to hold an iPod & earbuds? Originally, I was thinking burp pads too. So, for college age kids, would that morph into something like a hangover cloth? ;)
Stacia
How about a book carrier? Like the old-fashioned kind that was an elastic band you put around a stack of books to carry them? Could you tie this around a stack of books to carry them?
Joker
I looked at the FB page and it looks like they have to be some form of decor since they're in 'various holiday patterns'. jenn&charles
Keep the guesses coming! The suggestions have been entered on the FB page. I appreciate all the help.
