Are they so desperate to stay in the limelight?

The abuse happened years ago and yet they never publicly talked about it till now. Now they can't shut up.

End of my rant. :)

Of course they're desperate to stay in the limelight; it has been incredibly lucrative for their family.

They want to try to explain away the things that Josh did so they can get back in their fans' good graces and hopefully save their son's reputation. I may not sympathize with their situation, but I understand why they are granting the interview.

I sincerely hope no one watches.

People will watch, even if they despise the Duggars and only want to see the trainwreck. That family has always been a novelty and an oddity, and since the Josh Duggar scandal, there is a whole new reason for people to watch them, whether they are supporters, haters, or just plain curious.

Megan Kelly of Fox News, so yes.

You don't think Megyn Kelly can ask tough questions?  Huh. I'm looking forward to her asking the things that many of those who are NOT fans would like to know.  (I'll probably just read about it later, honestly.  LOL)

Kelly is no soft touch as an interviewer and I don't think she will be treating the Duggars with kid gloves. She is a smart woman. She is a Syracuse grad and got her JD from SUNY Albany.

I'm looking forward to the interview bc I DO watch her show and I'd predict she won't be pulling any punches.

6pack, I think Megyn Kelly can ask tough questions. I'm reposing what I posted about her in the other thread.

I've seen Megyn (Meghan? Megan? Whatever...) Kelly be tough in interviews. Or clips anyway. She can go off the Fox book a little sometimes.

But I don't even know that the Fox book on this one will be that sympathetic. They won't have the touch of schadenfrude that some of the liberal outlets have had, but I've seen political conservatives really be harsh toward them in light of this - and rightly so. How have they been so far on the subject?

But I agree with the - everyone just look away! - advice overall.

I suspect that the Duggers' PR/legal people have set strict parameters as to what can be asked.  I think MK is capable of asking harder questions than she will ever have a chance to.

Ya, I'm 100% certain that there are a slew of "preconditions" for this interview.

Absolutely this. ðŸ‘

Unless they are willing to admit the situation was handled wrong, and are willing to admit this situation had victims...not including Josh, then there will be no reason for the interview to air. None.

I highly doubt Ms. Kelly will ask difficult questions. No doubt she's capable of it, I just don't think she will. I do believe this will be stop one on the Duggar news tour in which they try to scrape up as many fans as they can before moving onto the next cash venture/spinoff.

I think if there's one person at the network who is likely to go off script and be critical, it's her.  I don't watch her regularly, but I have seen her show about ten times.  I think the times she is most likely to be a very hard interviewer is when the safety of children or her personal integrity is in question.

I'll watch the interview.  I've already set the DVR.

Somehow, I don't think the Duggars are going to the Fox News "journalist" who claims Jesus was a white man because they want tough questions.

I saw the Funny or Die skit yesterday, and honestly I think that's about how the interview will go, unfortunately.  I don't think they get how wrong it was or how badly they handled it- and I don't think they ever will!  Hoping this helps some of the other children get the nerve to leave at some point!  If they weren't in the spotlight, with the entire families $$ situation bearing down on them, maybe they could get the courage to leave!

I'm sure they don't want tough questions. In their situation, who would?

I'm just hoping Megyn Kelly will use follow-up questions to her advantage. Even if the Duggars get a chance to see a list of questions before the interview, that doesn't mean that Ms. Kelly won't be able to ask for "further clarification" on key points.

Is this a live interview? If it is, it will be tough for the Duggars to stand up and walk out in the middle of it, even if Ms. Kelly starts asking tough questions (as long as she is polite about it, so the Duggars can't act like she is attacking them.)

It's MK, Faux News, and the Duggars. This is all about damage control. It will definitely be slanted. Not worth watching other than to either continue rubbernecking the trainwreck or to counter them and the foundation of lies they stand on.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Megyn Kelly recalled the fact that according to Duggar/Gothard rules her entire life would be impossible?

Wife and mother with a job? No.

Mother of a limited number of children, utilizing schools and childcare as best suits her own family? No.

Woman with a college degree? Or even a high school education? No.

Allowed to wear her hair and makeup the way she wants, and wear short-skirted business suits? No.

Allowed to question People with Male Genitalia and usurp their authority on television? No.

Combine all of this with the actual topic at hand and you SHOULD get an absolute smackdown. I'm not saying I think we will, but.

I agree that MK can ask tough questions. However, mostly she asks them when she has a specific interest in the topic at hand. I've seen her do it. If not..well... I've also been amazed at what has come out of her mouth (Santa is white, kids!)

The fact that she is a journalist and not someone like maybe Oprah (not that they would get within 10 feet of her) means there is a chance for a tough question, maybe. I think she will call them on a few incidentals, like, asking then what was actually told to the perv kiddie porn cop, or why they didn't make an official police report etc. I seriously doubt she is going to question them on things that pertain to their faith, like how they view their daughters as responsible for their own abuse. She prob won't ask them why the bleeding heck they thought it would be a good idea to throw open their doors to the world, while sitting in judgement of everyone else. She will prob not remind them about the danger of living in a glass house.

I am guessing things they say will have more meaning to the evangelical community than to me. I am not going to hear those dog whistles, and words like 'forgiveness' don't have the same meaning for me that it might to an evangelical. I mean, I know what it is to forgive someone, but I don't feel any godly compunction (or whatever it is) to do it. They are in deep damage control and they have had enough time to get some coaching etc...not that Jim Bob would think he needs any coaching. He is rather narcissistic isn't he?

I am thinking that is going to feel like a glass one quarter full.

It's all about controlling their brand.

How disappointing. From the above:

"This isn’t going to be a cross-examination of a family. It’s going to be an interview. I want to hear their story. And I think America wants to hear their story now," she said.

No we don't! We want them to shut up and go away!

I think we should wait until after the interview to judge Megyn Kelly.

What else is she going to say at this point? If she brags about how tough she is going to be, the Duggars will make an excuse and cancel the interview.

I thought so too but in the segment I saw with her yesterday she made it clear she was upset about these things: that she was upset that the police report was even released at all, that the media ran with it knowing that the victims and the perp were all juveniles, and that the liberal press is using the relationship between the Duggars and politicians like Huckabee  to smear conservatives.

I saw little...almost no...outrage over the Duggars' actions.

I hope I am wrong and she makes this a real interview. But my money is on her handling them very gently.

I think her goal in the interview is purely politically driven.  I don't get the feeling she cares about how the American public views the Duggars just so long as they don't associate them with the people who have taken a photo op with JD.

If it works to spin them as normal people with a little problem...

If it works to spin them as whackadoodles with major problems...

Does it actually matter what the Duggar parents have to say?  If they do this interview to try and convince the viewers that they handled the situation with their children adequately, so what?  It's just more of the same.  If they confess they were dead wrong and that they should have 1) removed Josh from all environments with children, 2) got everyone involved treatment and counseling by licensed professionals 3) begged their daughters and the other victim(s) forgiveness for handling it so badly and neglecting their mental health needs, so what? Is anyone so on the fence with this that either scenario will change their minds?  What exactly is the hoped for outcome of this interview that people want and why will it matter if we get it? Do the viewers who tune in for this just want someone to tell them they were right (whether they think the Duggar parents handled it the right way or the wrong way) and are hoping the Duggars or the interviewer will be the one to tell them they're right?

If the Duggar parents have PR people, I think the PR people need to tell them to shut up and step out of the limelight.  Nothing they can say will make it better.  Even if they're going to admit wrong doing, they need to keep it to something like, "We were wrong. We should've done everything differently.  We're sorry.  Goodbye." You don't need an interview for that.

The Duggars' PR people (if they have any,) don't want to lose their jobs, so it is to their utmost advantage to do whatever is necessary to keep the family in the limelight. Unemployable Duggars equals unemployed PR people.

The Duggars don't want to lose their television show, their endorsement deals, or their paid speaking engagements, so they are going to try to convince the public that they are good and decent people, despite what happened with Josh and their dds. And realistically, it would also make sense that they are trying to clear their son's name.

They're not going to go down without a fight.

What's sad is there are people who think they are just a sweet family, that they must know how to parent well because, gosh, they have 19 well-behaved kids. They will believe the smiles and skimming comments powdered with some statements of faith. Some people will walk away thinking they are lousy parents because they yell at their two kids and don't forgive so easily. They will think there is something wrong with them and their faith.

They won't see through the reality-tv part, they just see a nice christian family.

I don't believe having the Duggar interview justifying their bad behavior is going to look good on an PR person's resume.  Sorry.  That's nuts.

You make a great point. I am on the fence as to whether I want to watch or not and your post does force a really good question. What will it do for me to watch? I will probably be super-torqued no matter what they say.

:iagree: Some people are willing to give this family a complete pass because their language is "Christian enough" so they must be sincere in what they say.

I totally agree the interview will change no one's mind.  I do think PR people tend to think any coverage is good coverage.  A buck is a buck.  It's clear JB has had no problem cashing in on his kids up to this point.

My point was that the PR people wouldn't want to have to start sending out their resumes, because they would want to keep their jobs.

Additionally, if they are successful in helping the Duggars do damage control for their currently tarnished image, that information will look very good on their resumes in the future.

The Duggars need to hire Dennis Hastert's PR person. I'm astonished how that story has been buried considering that it's about blackmail and child molestation by a teacher. It should have blown up like the Penn State scandal and, so far, almost nothing.
