What foods are these states known for?

MD - Chesapeake Bay blue crabs and all things related: crab cakes, soft crabs, Old Bay seasoning. Maryland Beaten Biscuits and Smith Island cakes are a local thing, but that may be in state regional, rather than a widely known sort of thing.

VT - maple syrup, cheese

I'm finishing up a class at co-op about the US. I need a list of foods that the following states are known for, regionally or statewide. Help me out, I've never been to any of these states. :)

NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA, WV, KY, TN, SC, NC, GA, AL, MS, LA, FL, NH, VT.

Thanks!

LA - Cajun food

VT - maple syrup, apples, cheese/dairy

NC---bbq (which is pork, not chicken or beef, chopped rather than pulled or sliced, and without a thick, ketchupy sauce---see http://en.wikipedia...._North_Carolina) served with red bbq slaw, pimento cheese sandwiches, Duke's mayo (has no sugar), Sundrop, Cheerwine, birthplace of Pepsi, muscadines, scuppernongs, calabash shrimp, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Texas Pete hot sauce, Mt. Olive pickles, cheese straws, Moravian sugar cake, Moravian cookies, Lance crackers, Neese's livermush, biscuits, country ham and grits with red eye gravy.

Also, around here, a hamburger/cheeseburger "all the way" included mustard, chopped onions, chili, and slaw (mayo-based white slaw as opposed to the vinegar-based red bbq slaw for bbq sandwiches)---same with a hot dog. I didn't encounter mayo, tomato, or lettuce on a hamburger or relish on a hot dog until I hit college.

A few I don't think were mentioned:

GA: Peanuts (we lived there for a few years close to the FL border, there were boiled peanut stands everywhere, and they sold boiled peanuts in cans in the grocery store. That's right, BOILED peanuts), black eyed peas and collard greens and fried okra (though these last 3 are everywhere down south)

FL: Muscodine grapes (native to FL) and watermelons (best watermelon I've ever tasted, sold out of the back of trucks all over the place down there, my mouth is watering thinking about it), fried alligator

TN: Jack Daniels :)

We are back North now, and I do miss the fresh produce you can buy 10 months a year down south.

PA -- best local foods ever. Seriously, the wealth of local options here is amazing. Little farmers markets and dairies everywhere. But specifically, BEEF! (And dairy in general; you can buy some really good artisan cheese here. Seafood, not really something to order around here, but if you want a steak or a burger, it'll be incredible.) And apples. Peaches, too, but the apples are particularly spectacular in season.
