My dd's exciting news....homeschoolers can do great things!

Recommended Posts

Dd is bursting with joy bc she just found out she will be representing the US in the International Russian Olympiad in Moscow.

Just through working via Skype 1-2 days per week, her awesome Russian tutor, Mrs. Denne, has helped her reach a high level and achieve excellent pronunciation.

If you are looking for a Russian tutor, I highly recommend Mrs. Denne.

That's amazing!  Congratulations!!!

This is wonderful news!  Ð¿Ð¾Ð·Ð´Ñ€Ð°Ð²Ð»ÐµÐ½Ð¸Ñ!  (Courtesy of google translate.  I don't actually know Russian.)

When you get a chance, please share how the competition worked.  A quick internet search, led to this site which includes some stick figure drawings, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing?  (Just seeing those Cyrillic letters intimidates me.)

Eight,

I know you mentioned this on the other thread, but somehow I missed this original post.

I am beyond thrilled for your daughter and for you and hope for nothing but great things for her in the competition.

I have been on this board for nearly eight years - almost all of the time we have homeschooled - and as far back as I can remember on here, you've been a tremendous inspiration for pushing harder for better results and coloring outside the lines.

Okay, I admit there were times I would read about what you and your kids were doing and go "That is so cool, but there is no way I have the talent, imagination, whatever, to do that, and my kid? Forget it!"  Then I'd have to put my head down on the kitchen table and think on all what you had shared because often there was a chord that resonated and I'd have to figure out what to do with it. Usually that meant raising the bar higher.

You are an outstanding teacher, mentor, mother, and "boardie" friend.  Thanks for everything. I know it hasn't always been easy helping your dd find the path that's best for her, but what an amazing outcome! We'll be cheering for her.

:hurray:   Hear, hear! I could have written this post myself.  So happy for you and dd, and it couldn't have happened to a harder working, more inspiring family. You guys have earned everything that you've accomplished, and it is so wonderful to see your efforts and her efforts paying off so well for your kids.

CONGRATS!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing such great news, 8.

My 10th grader started with Julia Denne in August, and we could not be happier with her tutoring.

(I am sending you a PM. DS is curious about the competition.)

Congratulations!! My seventh grade dd studies with Julia Denne and loves working with her! She has made tremendous progress because Mrs. Denne is incredible -- a gem!! My dd is working on memorizing and acting out a poem to submit as well as her Russian handwriting for the essay portion.

Good luck to your dd!!

That is information about the local US chpt competitions.  Dd has traveled to IN and IL for competitions the past couple of yrs bc that is where Ms. Denne's students compete. This competition is sponsored by the Pushkin Institute in Moscow.  The international competition only takes place every 3-4 yrs. https://www.americancouncils.org/programs/olympiada-spoken-russian

Here is an article about the last international olympiada written by one of the participant's high school.
