prairiewindmomma Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 iBooks still hasn't released it from pre-order... I wish I had gone paper or kindle at this point. 1 Quote
Canadianmumof5 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hardcover not being being released until Aug 16th here :( Quote
Slache Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 If you're waiting just send the free sample to your kindle to get started. 2 Quote
MaryMak07 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Mine is on the truck too but we leave at 1pm til Saturday. I don't know if it will make it! Quote
Tress Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Bookdepository shipped mine yesterday. But....it usually takes at least 2 weeks for books to get from the UK to the Netherlands. Don't ask me why! I'm waiting..... Quote
Rachel Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I cancelled my preorder when I realized I would be out of town tomorrow when it was scheduled to arrive. I'm hoping my local bookstore has it so I can read it in the hotel this weekend. Quote
Erica in OR Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Who will be the first review on Amazon? :) Erica in OR 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 iBooks is no longer showing the item in its catalog, nor has it released to me, so I canceled my iBooks order and am buying elsewhere. Boo. Quote
Peaceful Isle Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It is on it's way here! I should get it today sometime. 1 Quote
Hunter Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm reading the Kindle version this morning. Good stuff! 4 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm reading the kindle version too! I'm reading it alongside 3ed for kicks. Hunter, it's good to see you! 2 Quote
Loesje22000 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 My book has also been shipped yesterday but it will take 10-20 days to get here. Quote
Hunter Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm reading the kindle version too! I'm reading it alongside 3ed for kicks. Hunter, it's good to see you! I don't have time to do comparisons, and my memory loss makes it hard for me to remember exactly what was in each version. I'm most interested in seeing the science since the new TWEM added a science section and the publication of the science history book. Also the logic level outlining and the grammar level and logic level composition. Quote
Hunter Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm reading the kindle version too! I'm reading it alongside 3ed for kicks. Hunter, it's good to see you! And it is good to see you too! I have some time off before my next novel writing classes starts on the 17th. I'm enjoying reconnecting with everyone. And what perfect timing for the release of 4th edition. What fun! 1 Quote
lgliser Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Will this be at Barnes and Noble today? I'll be near a store and I'd love to pick it up and have it tonight, but if not, I'll just go ahead and order it. Quote
SEGway Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Huzzah! Kindle version here. Very exciting! :hurray: 1 Quote
luuknam Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I placed a purchase request at my library last weekend, and they approved it. But, they take 2 weeks to 3 months in my experience to actually get the book and process it (usually about a month). My main hope is they'll keep it at my branch - I think there's a good chance, since they usually keep things at the branch you request it at, and it's one of the bigger branches, and unlike the other bigger branches, it doesn't have an older version, but we'll see (I have the previous edition on my kindle, or I would've bought it). Hunter Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I just was at one of the largest and busiest B&N in the country. They do NOT have it on the shelf. I have the feeling there were so many pre-orders that B&N is having trouble stocking the brick and mortar stores. Quote
waa510 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Kindle edition!! :hurray: Not anywhere near done but I'm already impressed with how well SWB synthesized all the things we noted from her 'give me feedback on WTM' thread and made this edition a really amazing resource combo of all the things I enjoyed with the earlier editions. It's really shining in its emphasis on the *how.* It must have taken so much time and energy! 8 Quote
Melissa in Australia Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I preorder mine from fishpond in April.it still says release date of 14 October...... Sigh....... 1 Quote
No More Perfect Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Got it this morning via Amazon! Yay! Is there a listing somewhere that tells what new changes or additions are in this newest edition? Quote
blue daisy Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It's here! Yay! I glanced through literature recommendations real quick because that's what I need to read the most, but I can't wait to sit down and really pore through it later. Quote
Maus Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Mine shows as "out for delivery." It only promises to be here by 8:00 pm... I'm looking forward to the new material on special needs students. Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm loving the math revisions--the nod to Liping Ma and the inclusion of math books for grownups are awesome! 3 Quote
73349 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) It's going to be awfully quiet around here for a few days as people read all ~789 pages... Mine doesn't arrive until the 15th to 19th :crying: but that will give me time to finish and return all my library books, at least. Edited August 9, 2016 by whitehawk 2 Quote

I tabbed that page, I have lots more reading in my future. I could definitely see snippets of ideas from the suggestion thread throughout the book. Quote

Classically Minded Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) Got mine! The mail lady may have thought I was crazy as I came flying out the door as she was (trying) to put it in the mailbox but I spared her the work of trying to fit it in there. :hurray: Edited August 9, 2016 by Classically Minded Quote
Peaceful Isle Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Ugh... Amazon just notified me that there was a "delay because of weather or shipping" seriously? Now what will I do tonight? Quote

Kalmia Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Mine is coming on Wednesday! I can't wait to see the changes in the science section. Now I can lend my third edition to the woman in the bakery who is anticipating a rough entry to public school for her gifted kid and is exploring other options. 2 Quote
shinyhappypeople Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Dang it! I wasn't going to buy it but I had to go and open this thread, and now it's somehow on my kindle. Y'all are bad influences. See you later. Off to do some reading.... 6 Quote

Loesje22000 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 so green with envy :D that you guys are getting yours and I have to wait another 2 MONTHS :svengo: That is terrible!!! I take back my complaining about waiting 2 weeks..... But at the other side, it will be in time for your new schoolyear isn't it? So you can take the new WTM in the new planning I just posted my planning to the educational department last week. 2 Quote
Penelope Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 So what's the verdict? How much is new and useful to you personally, for those that have it? I am not sure I need the new one since I own an older edition. 1 Quote
Kalmia Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Still reading here. I am not even homeschooling any more, but do afterschool some. Primarily I bought the 4th edition to support SWB. The portion I have read seems much clearer than the earlier editions (though I am not comparing them side by side). It is pointed out that the homeschooling parent is not expected to complete everything in the book and that the schedules are there but don't have to be strictly followed. The elementary and middle school science sections (all I have gotten to so far) are significantly different but still classical in their approach. There is a section on whole to parts vs. parts to whole in the elementary section that confused me at first (fiercely pro parts to whole), until I got to a paragraph in the middle school section that suggested the these were the years to switch over to whole to parts. At the moment (I will come back more when I have read more), I would say that this edition is definitely an improvement for the new homeschooler. It is clear and less intimidating. I don't know that it is necessary for someone who has been homeschooling for a while and owns the 3rd edition. But since there are still some who refer to the 1st edition for curriculum recommendations that did not appear in later editions, if money is not an issue, I'd suggest getting this one too especially for the new science living books recommended.
