I'm using French in Action with my 9th grader this year. Should this be done in one year or two? Does anyone know of any scheduling plans for this available online somewhere? I'm having trouble scheduling out what to do each day. Also, would completion of this course result in 1 credit? Thanks!

My upcoming high schooler wants to use The History of the Ancient World as the spine for history this coming school year. I really love how Pandia Press History Odyssey Ancients Level 3 does lesson plans and what to do each day, however they use different books as spines. (In fact, the actual main spine they use in that level is out of print so they are no longer selling it except in eBook form). Is there someone who sells something similar for THotAW book? I do know that Well-Trained Mind Press does sell their own plan for the book, but it isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

Nope! I find it creepy. Maybe it's just the illustrations?? But, maybe not the illustrations because I love the artwork in The Little Island but dislike the story. It was fine until the kitten started flying and I couldn't get past the randomness. 🤷ðŸ¼â€â™€ï¸

We go through kitchen towels like crazy. They just don't hold up to our family. I've been buying Williams-Sonoma pantry towels but they aren't as absorbent as I'd like. I've tried cheap ones from Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, etc. Any suggestions? Also, my kids inadvertently stain them with peanut butter, Nutella, etc. So white is out. Unless there are decent, white kitchen towels that maybe could be bleached? I don't mind spending good money on these things. Suggestions, please!

They couldn't tell with our first. Went to an elective sonogram place and couldn't tell. They gave us a freebie since they couldn't tell us. Finally, after that second one (or really, the third total) we were told boy. Yay! Baby was born and was a. . . girl.

Regarding the first bolded: I came here to this thread to thank you for sharing the article. I was able to learn more about what a CM education looks and feels like more than my, admittedly, not-so-organized research in CM. Re: the second bolded: this book looks like something I'd love to read. Do you feel that non-Catholics would get something out of it?

Loves: Getting Started with Latin - I'm using it with the older three kids and the short and sweet lessons make for greater retention. Saxon Math - my oldest has been doing it for a few years. I switched my 11yo, 10yo, and 8yo to it this year from MUS and am so glad I did. I teach better when using Saxon and the kids are understanding it better than anything we have ever used. Writing and Rhetoric books - I'm still not sure this is as meaty as I'd like, but it is enjoyable and so that means both mom and kids are getting something out of it. I don't like how the books are split up into two parts per year, but that isn't enough to make me drop it. Zaner-Bloser handwriting - both manuscript and cursive books. Handwriting is a rather dry subject and feels like a chore to my kids, so the colorful books and short lessons make it much easier for them to manage while actually learning. Hates: None so far Not sure about: Well-Ordered Language- I don't know what it is, but I think the format of the book is what is throwing me off. I'm just so darned confused about how to teach it the way they intended because it really isn't clear to me in the first place. And the chants/songs?? Awful. Really awful. Monotone and slow. We just say the definitions aloud and leave the songs alone. Elemental Science - this is the second time I have used it. This year we are using Physics for the Logic Stage for my middle schoolers. Science is a sticky point for us. I'm Christian but do not choose Christian science books. The secular ones are too textbook like and way over my head. Elemental Science is meaty enough that the kids get something out of it and is secular in nature. I do appreciate the weekly plans included as they make my planning so much easier. Also, the ability to buy a kit of supplies. Still, it is rather bland and I'm not sure that the kids are retaining much. I don't want to blame it on the curriculum, though, because I may just need to rearrange things a bit.

Quite simply, we were tired. Also, my pregnancies kept getting worse and worse, meaning by the last pregnancy, I threw up for 7 months straight and was on the couch for the majority of the pregnancy.

I have a Samsung washer and dryer. I'm very pleased with them. They are quiet, get our clothes clean more often than my top loader ever did (I very rarely use a stain remover spray now), never have any smell issues, and simple to use. Using less water is very important to me, so Speed Queens will never be an option. ETA: we are a large family. I love my front loader. It's a great workhorse, no smell issues, uses very little water and cleans the clothing better than my top loader did.

For every single pregnancy, my husband had to brew, and drink, his morning coffee either in the garage or on the back porch. I just could not take the smell. I'd end up vomiting for hours. Thankfully once the third trimester hit, I was good and able to enjoy it again. But goodness, that was hard those two trimesters. Hugs! Hang in there.

I'm very impressed with my Samsung front loaders. They clean better than my top loaders ever did. Also, I was easily able to turn off the music at the end of loads. :hurray:

The Goodwills I have lived near over the years have tended to carry very cheap clothing. And we live in a fairly affluent area. I'm jealous of those of you whose thrift stores carry decent clothing!

A few months ago I asked for help with my 7yo daughter and what specialist to take her to ( http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/562087-who-do-i-see-for-this-issue-a-jawm-and-a-question/ ). We took her to one of the neuropsychs that our pediatrician recommended and let's just say, I was less than impressed. We did not even do the 4 hour testing he needed because I was very uncomfortable with his office. So, we made an appointment with a psychiatrist. We decided to also get another daughter looked at for possible ADHD at the same time. When we called to make an appointment, they asked that we make an appointment first, to discuss with just either my husband or I, no girls. I liked this because the neuropsych required her to be there for the first visit and it made me uncomfortable describing her issues to him with her there. Anyways, the new clinic also had us make an appointment for after the parent visit, to meet with both girls. My husband went to the parent appointment this morning and just called. He met with the psychiatrist for an hour. I was a little shocked when he called and said "Well, she told me that she believes A has ADHD for sure and will need medication. But B, she believes has bipolar but she doesn't want to call it that. She'll also need therapy." :scared: She will not make any official diagnosis until after she sees this girl. But get this: she only wants to spend 20 minutes with each girl and then, she told my husband, she will have a diagnosis to give him for both. I'm confused: she can say that my girls most likely have these things when she has only met my husband, and she only needs 20 minutes a piece with them to diagnose them? This seems so very different than what the neuropsych was going to do. I hope some of this makes sense. I'm actually shaken because I wasn't expecting to be told my daughter was bi-polar. Is this normal for a doctor to diagnose before seeing the patient? Is it just the difference between taking a child to a neuropsych vs a psychiatrist? Please, please be gentle. Thanks!
