LNC
Bad news, they think his lung has partially collapsed. We are waiting on the pulmonolgist. Eta: They are doing another procedure to try and fix the problem. Oh no! My daughter had a pneumothorax and chest tube to repair. She did well, but I was a wreck. I'm praying for him this morning. Mrs Mungo
The doctor hasn't been in yet this morning, but the nurse said they are still seeing air bubbles, which means his lung is still leaking air. They will check again @ 8 am, my time. Thanks for holding the thought for us,

ma23peas
I just saw this update. I have no idea how I missed it before. Have they checked for histoplasmosis? The reason I ask is because both my brother and I had this as children. I didn't even get sick and only found out later due to scarring showing up on an X-ray when I had pneumonia. My brother on the other hand ended up with a collapsed lung. The histoplasmosis (I don't know if this is a bacteria or virus or what) had caused a growth around the major airway to one of his lungs. He had to have surgery to have it removed and was in the hospital for six months. He is perfectly healthy now but it was very scarry for awhile and it would have been so much easier if they had caught it earlier. I am assuming that if your son has had x-ray and surgery that they would have caught it if this was the case but what happened to my brother was unusual so they might not think of it right away. My brother was lucky in that he was in the Dallas Children Hospital where they deal with more unusual cases. In any case, I am so glad to hear that he has made it through surgery and that they have managed to reinflate his lung. Hopefully he will heal quickly and they will find and fix the problem. Praying for you both here. :grouphug: "Histo" is a fungus...there are actually 2-3 common types of fungus that affect the lungs..but generally with histo it will form little balls of fungal growth which show up on an xray....there are many types of lung fungal infections which come mainly from playing in dirt....farmers in the southern US usually are prone to them...some of us have them in our lungs now but they stay dormant and not sure why some take off and others don't...the biopsy should return some positive clues... Praying for your boy and for YOU!! Stay strong!!

Mrs Mungo
I appreciate everyone sending their thoughts and prayers. Aaron's lung finally stopped leaking air. We had to wait on the chest x-ray and the various doctors to confer. His chest x-ray looked good. His lung is mostly (but not 100%) reinflated; they expect it to finish reinflating on its own. They are supposed to be removing the chest tube around 4:30 and if everything goes well, he will be released tomorrow. I will try to update again after they successfully remove the chest tube. They should be removing his hep lock soon. Things are looking good going home tomorrow. Thank you, everyone, for all of your thoughts and prayers, I truly appreciate it.
