  1. I don't like the self righteous attitude of the author as if these people are the authority on family life and child rearing. The author comes across as thinking of herself as being so "pure" and the evil child must be severely punished. Two weeks of being spanked everyday is just plain mean. And to brag about this incident ? Wow. I'm without words.
  2. I share your sentiment. I also enjoy hearing of others successes. We are all different and our children are all different so each family will have a different mix of struggles and successes. I don't really see it as bragging or complaining when one shares what their particular "mix" of struggles or successes are. It's just life and sharing one's life with others. We are called by Christ to share the good AND the bad with others. Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
  3. Well, I really haven't heard a whole lot of what I thought has been excessive bragging. I suppose talking about what your children are doing at all could be considered bragging. I like to hear people talk about their children. How else are you going to hear about what's going on with them ? Actually, I would say that the majority of what I have heard most homeschool Moms talk about is their activities and specifics of educational materials they use. They seem to talk surprisingly little about their children.
  4. For those interested in reading about the Second Coming of Christ here is a link to Baker's Evangelical Dictionary. On page 3, second paragraph down, you will find a reference to the "rapture". http://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionaries/bakers-evangelical-dictionary/second-coming-of-christ.html Interesting, it says on page 3 "Pretribulationists hold that there follows a period of tribulation for those remaining on earth (Matt. 24), which will last for a thousand years ( Rev 20:5 ). Midtribulationists think that the church will experience three and a half years of the tribulation before being raptured (citing Dan 7:25 , etc. ). Posttribulationists hold that the church will remain on earth throughout the tribulation and that the return of Christ is after that. " This part - WHICH WILL LAST FOR A THOUSAND YEARS " must be a misprint. I didn't think anyone thought the tribulation would last for a thousand years. The millennium, yes, but not the tribulation. OK, much of the article I thought was helpful but that part confusing. I think it's just a mistake. I think it meant to say 7 years.
  5. "Actually, I think the target audience of the video is people within the church who are not *really* saved." Well, good point because, as we saw in the video, it did take place in a church, which I suppose is representative of "The Church", so to speak, and I would interpret those that were left behind as being those in church that are really not part of "The Church - The Body of Christ". I think the message may be to use your time well because none of us knows how much we have left. Christ will come back as a thief in the night and we do not know when. So be ready at any time. Also, don't cause anyone to be one that is left behind.
  6. That's what I thought when I saw it, that it serves as a good reminder that we don't know how much time we have left. Not enough info for those that may wonder what it's about but could serve as a jump off for more research, or not, Your choice.
  7. My 2 cents, as a christian, is to say stay away from this. I cannot make comments on the show itself because I have not seen it. But on the idea of speaking to a medium, no can do. :tongue_smilie:
  8. Church Service Ends Abruptly when the unexpected happens. This is a very short video. Maybe just a minute or 2. Take a look ...... http://www.godvine.com/Are-You-Ready-for-Jesus-to-Come-Back-Shocking-Must-See-Video-198.html
  9. Oh Mrs Mungo I can't believe you really hate the FDA cause they are so wise.:lol::lol:
  10. Me and my sinuses can relate to this article today (linked below )" Meth Labs,Congress : Thanks for Nothing " I know it's been a few years since this drug was pulled, but hey, today my sinuses are a little crazy and the decongestants I've been taking are not working. So, just what has happened in regards to the proliferation of meth labs since this article was written ? Did Congress make meth go away ? Well, it would be nice if someone would make the drug problem in my neighborhood go away. All I've accomplished to do personally is to make the drug dealer/addict next door cry by yelling at him to get off of my porch. Yes, I really did make him cry. He was feeling the anger of my wrath at drug dealers in general that has reared up since my friend Jerry was shot dead by a drug abuser that robbed him. Congress doesn't have the answer to the drug problem but what is the answer ? http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/olson5.html I like the "spunk" of this guy. He cracks me up.
  11. Here's a link to the article http://www.drugs.com/news/could-airway-abnormality-point-autism-34412.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Drugscom-DailyMe
  12. Yes, they go media mail. I doubt the content would matter any more than the content of a book.
  13. Check your internet bill too. We used to have the same company provide our cable TV as our internet service but we canceled the cable TV service. For a few months the cable TV was no longer on our bill. But then all of a sudden it appeared again on our bill even though we no longer have that service. They removed the charge but I find it very strange that it suddenly showed up on our bill again for no apparent reason.
  14. OK, I did that. But is there something special about there being 2000 likes ?
  15. 40 more minutes of driving each day will potentially add on a lot to your gasoline bill, depending on how much gasoline your vehicle uses. I think the savings in gasoline will make up for the $200 in rent. Also, the more miles you have to put on your vehicle, the more money you will have to spend on it in maintenance costs. The thing about living in a small space with a lot of people, is that you will naturally be trying to get out of there as often as possible to relieve some of the stress of all being so cooped up, especially in this gloomy NW weather. The more you leave the house to get some breathing space, the more money you are going to be spending. If you can manage to live in the house that fits your family better, you may not feel the need as much to get away. Having a bigger yard will help too. Maybe the kids can spend more time outdoors and you can do barbecues and enjoy being home. If you can get some fire wood, put on the sweaters, and keep the furnace from running all of the time, it may not be too bad. If it were me, I'd try to make the move work. Being cooped up in a space that is too small for your family causes stress which can really take the joy out of life. When you are over stressed, you simply don't function as well, and you aren't as likely to keep as good of track of things that save you money in the long run. Also, if you are putting some of your children in ps and you think the one at the new house will be better for them than the one where you currently live, that is a BIG plus.
  16. There are space heaters now that work fairly well, don't use a lot of energy, and are cheap to purchase. I don't think that used to be the case. If you own old, inefficient, dangerous space heaters, it would be a good idea to replace them with new efficient safe ones.
  17. Is he having to spend a significant amount on gasoline to commute to work from where you currently live ? If so, that would be one area that you would save money on. Plus, the amount of time saved from a shorter commute would be a plus for your dh.
  18. You really think that it's up to some individual in the family to foot the bill for the entire family reunion. I doubt $15 will even cover the cost of everything. It seems to me that you just don't want to go anyway so that small amount seems to annoy you. I can't imagine that it would annoy you if this was an event you were looking forward to. Just don't go. The last family reunion I went to was pot luck style. I'm sure I spent more that $15 on the food I contributed and it cost someone additional money for extras that were provided.
  19. How would the move effect your transportation needs ? Will what you spend on gasoline go up or down or stay about the same ? What about groceries ? Will you have access to a store with economical choices for groceries if you move and do you have good choices for groceries where you currently live ? Having access to a WinCo grocery store is a substantial savings for our family. Where you shop for groceries could be a difference in hundreds of dollars a month for your large family. Also, how much of a commute needs to be made to get to work could also be a big factor.
  20. I have purchased bedding sets from overstock.com and been very happy with them. They have a lot of bedding sets for children. Here's a link http://www.overstock.com/search?keywords=children+bedding&SearchType=Header
  21. About the op's question. I think we all have a sin nature. We have the potential to do evil but we are made in the image of God and so also have the potential to do good.
  22. But then who decides what is "moral" and what is "immoral" ? Some people in prison for certain crimes have been known to "judge" others in prison for doing "worse" crimes than they have committed. If I'm someone who has only robbed a bank but didn't kill or rape someone then I'm more moral and those rapists should be the one's to be ostracized in prison, they reason. But the one who robbed the bank has committed a crime and so has the one that raped or killed someone. They both have guilt even though they didn't commit the same act.But it doesn't really even matter what some other person has done, in regards to how "sinless" we are.God says we are not to compare ourselves to others. By God's standard, each and every person is a sinner. We each have not committed the same exact sins, but we ALL fall short of Gods perfect, holy standard. By our own standard, we may very well call ourselves righteous and sinless. But we don't stand up to God's holy, perfect standard. It's not just about outward actions. It's about the condition of our heart. We have a heart with a sin nature. If we don't see that it's because we haven't let God shine enough of His light into our life to show us. People tend to hide from the light when they don't love God. I'm sure others could say it better.
  23. Since money is tight, I have been selling items I don't need so we can use the money for other things we need. I like posting items here at WTM on the "for sale" board to sell. If I want to give something away I think this board is a good place to post that too.
