SwimmyKids
I don't have cleavage, but I notice that when I wake up, the vertical wrinkles on my breastplate take a long time to disappear now that I am older and sagging all over. kalanamak
Attention. I always found it unpleasant to be "looked at" like meat, but some people get a thrill out of it. Every time some provocatively dressed woman complains to me that men only want one thing, I want to snark "stop dressing like a tramp and expand your vocabulary and interests", but rudeness is just....rudeness. Peek a Boo
I have one dress that has a neckline w/ a seriously deep plunge that i wear out and about, but the main reason i wear it is because it is sooooo comfy. I haven't worn it to church tho, mostly cuz it just doesn't fit my "style" for church clothes. :) The other dress that I have worn to church w/ a lower neckline reminds me of an Easter Sunday dress. I haven't worn it lately cuz the shoes i loved to wear with it are shot. But i guess the bigger issue is that i don't really choose my clothes based on whether they "show cleavage" or not. Some do, some don't. Showing of cleavage doesn't really bother me anymore than form-fitting clothes or shorter skirts. but i do realize hose are all an issue with some people. I did raise my eyebrows a bit when the 90-something year old gal at church wore a blouse w/ a heart-shaped design cut on the chest [with just a bit buttoned at the throat], exposing quite a bit of cleavage..... i also raise my eyebrows a bit at women who seem to be attempting to show off a non-existent figure via their clothing.... AlmiraGulch
Why does it bother you? It's not like there's a nipple hanging out or something. And I'm not being snarky....it's a serious question. LauraGB
Why does it bother you? It's not like there's a nipple hanging out or something. And I'm not being snarky....it's a serious question. . I'll answer this if you are seriously asking. A small amt of cleavage can be feminine; like a v-neck shirt or even a scoop neck some times. Books hanging out is, well, tacky. I do not look good with some of the higher necklines - they just don't work with my face. So, the lower necklines are just that - lower. Nothing protruding, no bra showing, and, in my unfortuante case, nothing anyone feels the need to avert thier eyes from.;) Some women just tend to over do it. newbie
I boost mine w/ a Miracle bra, but I always keep them covered. AlmiraGulch
;) Some women just tend to over do it. Yeah, you definitely have a point. There are those of us who can't really help it if a little cleavage shows, and then there are those who intentionally wear their shirts two sizes too small so that nothing is a secret. So, I'll assume that's what the OP was referring to. And, in that case, the answer is so that they can get attention.
Elizabeth Conley
There are times when you wear a shirt and don't realize its riding down a bit, I had a couple like that. I put it on and its fine, but during the day I notice it rides down a bit...so the next time I put a cami under it I was wearing a brand new shirt that I thought was lovely to the teacher's meeting of our co-op. Then one of the ladies started obsessing about cleavage, and how good Christian mentors shouldn't show any. She harped and she harped and she harped. Finally, near the end of the meeting, I realized the new shirt I was so happy with had a tendency to droop down too far in front. I was somewhat discouraged. Large breasts are a pain. One of the nuisances is how the natural movement of walking, reaching and doing can somehow undo blouse buttons. I'm not so sure how this works, but I can't tell you how many times I've had to re-button certain very necessary buttons. In desperation, I've even sewn the front of some of my shirts shut. There's two sides to the "OMG doesn't she know she looks like a tramp?" issue. Being large up top isn't something most of us asked for, and finding shirts can be a pain. Bimbo costumes are the style right now. Shirts are fitted, and very short. To make things worse, the pants are low cut on the hips. I don't want to dress like a tramp, but finding decent clothes is a hassle. Yes I sew, but not because I like to. Sometimes sewing is my only option. It gets worse when we're involved in sports. I'm heavy into martial arts, and found that some dojos were full of people who obsessed never endingly about my chest. It was such a hassle. The gi was so modest, their drama was totally unnecessary. They made me uncomfortable with their unwavering focus on my breasts.

HRAAB
Sometimes it shows, sometimes not. Never on purpose, just cause it's there. The way I'm built. As long as hubby is okay, and I'm okay, I can't worry about whether everybody else is okay. ETA: I just looked down and, yes, some cleavage is showing. I wasn't even aware. It's a comfy top, dh and I have been running around in the car, and cleavage was the last thing I was thinking about today. Janet

I try on lots of tops that I don't buy, but I find plenty that are stylish while also being comfortably in between choking and cleavage. Editing to say that it's interesting to read the different perspectives here -- from "cause I want to (just a little)" to "if it shows it shows -- not going to worry" to a few like me who purposely draw the (neck) line just before cleavage! Ibbygirl
I think that the OP is possibly referring to the women who purposely flaunt it rather than accidentally. I personally don't care what people wear out and about. I would have to move to another state if I did because it is EVERYWHERE here in South Florida. I think so many women have bought books that they like to show them off or something. ;) :D But in church, I think it's poor taste. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen a guy distracted in church because of a woman who is dressed for a night out dancing rather than for church. Our pastor has even addressed the issue from the pulpit a few times because it is such a problem in our church, but they keep wearing the skimpy clothes anyway. They even started putting the air conditioning in the sanctuary super cold. I have to bring a sweater with me when I go to church and there are girls who STILL come in with the tight fitting, short, spagetti strap dresses with the deep plunge necklines and no sweater. Go figure!

Ibbygirl
Because I am 5 feet 1 inch tall and I've got really big boobs, I have a hard time finding shirts in the petite section. The typical V-neck woman's shirt on me has got a cami under it and it still shows cleavage. I can't wear turtlenecks because it makes them look even bigger---like missile heads. I wear jackets when I can, but in summer, in the South, I just might die of heat stroke with a jacket on. So, before you judge me, try to walk in my shoes or my DDs. I am NOT looking for attention; this is just what I could find to wear. I don't think she's judging you. I don't think she is meaning you or people in your shoes at all. I think she is talking about the women who are blatantly flaunting it. There is a big difference. If you've ever been to Miami you would know what I am talking about. I hate to think you are feeling judged. I dont think that that is the OP's intent. Just my humble 2 cents for whatever they are worth. melissel
This is starting to remind me of the "moms in bikinis" discussion. Are bikinis necessary at the pool? No. Do some women enjoy wearing them and showing off their bodies? Yes. I feel the same way about cleavage at the grocery store. Would I flaunt my cleavage at the Stop and Shop (and boy howdy, I could if I wanted to, stupid booKs :glare:)? No, I wouldn't, but I don't begrudge anyone their cleavage more than I begrudge anyone their painted-on jeans. I think people have a right to wear just about whatever they like and feel comfortable in. Edited October 3, 2009 by melissel Removed a sentence because it didn't express my sentiments corretly!
