I'll have my first 3rd grader next year. I am trying to keep my list short and realistic since baby #5 will put me out of commission for quite a while.

What Will Probably Happen

Writing: WWE 2/3

Grammar & Spelling: CMish instruction pulled from copywork

Poetry: IEW Poetry Memorization

Math: RightStart C/D

Religion: Faith & Life 3

History/Geography: Independent reading lists based on American History

Science: Independent reading based on Let's Read & Find Out series mixed with Lots of Nature Study and seasoned with gardening and animal care

Real Life: Lots of baby and toddler care, cooking, and cleaning. It's fun to be the oldest!

If I can handle the schedule, she will also have piano lessons and some combo of public school art, music & PE. That all might have to wait until after January, though.

Can I ask why you decided that? We were going to start that in 3rd as well. Do you think it will be too confusing at this point?

I don't think it would be too confusing, but I do think that it would be more work than necessary at this point. I watched the first six or so dvd lessons of LfC, and it moves VERY quickly. To me it seems that my dd would be having to learn BOTH the grammar AND the vocabulary at the same time, and it seems that LfC would move too quickly for that. I thought about slowing it down and taking two weeks for every lesson, thus completing A in two years, but in the end I decided that I would rather use the time that would be devoted to LfC to focus more intensively on writing. We'll be doing FLL3 this year and 4 next year, and then I will evaluate where our grammar and writing stands and see whether I feel we're ready to move into Latin.

I was already thinking about this myself, but then I met a college kid who was homeschooled classically, and the FIRST thing I asked him about was Latin. He said that he started Latin in 6th grade and spent 6th, 7th, and 8th grades building a foundation (he used Latin Road), and then in high school he moved on to a reading course and was fully prepared. I thought about what would happen if we did Latin in 3rd, 4th, and 5th and then tried a reading program, or if we did Latin in 3rd-8th and then did a reading program, and I decided that it's one of those things where we could take a long time to learn something now that would probably come easier in a few years. Incidentally, the kid I met mentioned that his mother started Latin in 3rd grade with his younger sister and then abandoned it, feeling that the sister didn't have a firm enough grammar grasp to benefit from Latin at that age.

I've always been conflicted about when to start Latin, and I felt self-imposed pressure to do it "TWTM way," but even though my dd wanted to start in 3rd grade, it never really felt right to me.

Sorry for the novel. ;)

Mostly the same as this year, just moving along, but HOD instead of my own history from ATTA, to make it easier since I'll be schooling 2 next year, K and 3, we'll be doing Beyond with a few extra higher level books for my daughter.

I also plan on doing CC again--while we didn't love everything about it, most of it was good, and it's easy to find and do when you move as much as we do, so we'll keep it as our co-op. They had a CC here and they have one where we're moving this summer.

It has lots of browns and dark blues on it and the boys think it looks manly. haha!

I'm using HOD's Beyond with my 3rd and 1st graders next year. My DD will be using HOD's Bigger for the LA and Math portion of the lessons. All our LA and Math are using the teacher's guide suggestions.

English--R&S 2, spelling/dictation in HOD

Handwriting--copywork, Cheerful Cursive

Math--Singapore 2a and 2b (DD struggles with math)

History--HOD

Science--HOD, may add Apologia Astronomy as time allows

Art--HOD, Artpacs as time allows

Reading/writing--I'm using the level 2 recommended books for DITHOR, but having her keep a reading journal. We may add DITHOR in a year or two.

Keepers at Home--we're doing the program as a family. I'm using this to cover health, as well as arts, crafts, nature studies, PE, home ec, etc.

Prima Latina--DH is teaching this!

Gymnastics--She has 1.5 hour team practice and 1.5 hour class each week.

Planned read-alouds: Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims, King of the Wind, Little House in the Big Woods, Key to the Treasure, The Trumpet of the Swan, House at Pooh Corner, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Follow My Leader, Pagoo, The Apple and the Arrow, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

DD's Read-alone books: Amelia Earhart: Young Air Pioneer, The Littles, Stone Fox, Pioneer Cat, Hannah, McBroom's Wonderful One Acre Farm: Three Tall Tales, Who's That Stepping On Plymouth Rock, The Treasure of Pelican Cove, Capyboppy, The Secret School...I may have to add more at the rate she reads!

I'm hoping to finish our HOD assignments in the morning and spend our afternoons with Keeper's projects.
