  1. I use the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus products. You can get them at Amazon but also at Target, CVS and Walgreens, I know for sure. These products have done amazing things for my curls. Love them. I use specifically the shampoo and conditioner with the curl and style milk. In the winter, I will probably need more moisture and will use the smoothie product then. Amazon.com: SheaMoisture: Coconut & Hibiscus
  2. My oldest daughter was diagnosed with IIH two years ago after some problems discovered by her ophthalmologist. She had a lumbar puncture with an initial high pressure. She began taking diamox and began under care of a great neurologist. His first advice to her was to lose weight. We went to see a dietician at the hospital that have her some great tips and she lost the weight. She has had no continued issues with her eyes and on a different medication but her neurologist feels that the IIH has resolved and her new ophthalmologist told us that it often resolves. However, her neurologist told us that she is one of very few of his patients that actually lost the weight that she was told to lose. He feels that this is no longer a problem for her. I know this is just one case but maybe can offer some hope. We elected to drive a bit to get a top rated neurology department and we have more than one docs eyes on the situation. I always recommend second opinions from the best doctor you can access.
  3. In the Kettering/Centerville area, these are my favorite local restaurants: Christopher's Mamma DiSalvo's Meadowlark Old Scratch Pizza (also a location in Dayton) The Paragon club has excellent steaks, etc but is on the pricier side Graeter's ice cream or Ritter's Frozen Custard Also for drive-thru/quick service, In and Out Java/Salad Sage open until 6 during week and 3 on weekends. Great coffee and salads (also my kid works there) I've heard very good things about Thai Table but A little outside Kettering/Centerville: Blueberry Cafe in Bellbrook (breakfast and lunch only) El Meson in West Carrollton All of the restaurants in the Oregon District in Dayton: Thai 9 Lily's Bistro Trolley Stop Dublin Pub Blind Bob's 416 Diner Lucky's (especially for vegan/vegetarian fare) Wheat Penny Downtown but outside of Oregon District: Mudlick Tap House Local coffee from Boston Stoker (in Centerville and in all Dorothy Lane Market locations), Ghostlight or Wholly Grounds (in Dayton), Warehouse 4 (Kettering) Hope that's helpful.
  4. My youngest is 17. She is taking a community college class and working this summer. She plans to move out in August and is gearing up for that.
  5. My youngest hasn't really decided what she wants to do in life. She has been dual enrolled for the last several years at the local community college. They are giving her a full scholarship to finish her two year art degree and then she will decide from there. She has about 10 classes left to take. She is adamantly against student loans and doesn't qualify for any other financial aid. The state paid for what she has taken so far and now the school is paying for the rest. Super proud of her.
  6. It will be just dh, dd2 and me tomorrow. I am at work for a 12 hour shift tonight so we decided to take it easy tomorrow and I am going to make some fettucine alfredo with salad and garlic bread for dinner.
  7. I am so sorry for your loss. My nephew committed suicide in October and I feel like my whole world has been knocked off of its axis. I have been alternately angry at him and everyone I have ever known. I have found that many people, people that I know care about me, just dont know what to say to me anymore after the initial condolences, especially with the societal taboo that exists around suicide. I even struggle with it because how many times can I ask my sister "How are You". Of course, she is devastated. It seems like the most worthless question and I think its common for people to struggle. I have been trying to take my own advice to my sister and my mother, to try not to make what could be long lasting decisions in the midst of this debilitating grief. I, myself, can only get through one day at a time, and honestly, its one minute at a time. I have no idea if anything I just said is helpful or if I am just rambling, but know you are not alone.
  8. I do know a couple of great realtors in the area if you are interested. Most people are compliant with masks the closer to the city that you are and in the main suburbs. The more rural the area gets, the less compliant people are, in my experience. The Dayton area does still have fairly high COVID numbers. I work at the largest hospital in the region and though our numbers are coming down a little, our COVID census is still pretty high.
  9. Many WPAFB folks tend to live in Beavercreek because it doesn't have an income tax. However, it does have high property taxes. Its a large suburb feel and has everything from tiny little 1940s houses to huge homes. Some parts of Beavercreek are newly renovated/rebuilt after the city was hit by a bad tornado in 2019 and there always seems to be more new homes being built there. Anything in a township instead of city limits also does not have an income tax. Fairborn has an income tax and a school district tax on top of that but a lot of newer developments as well. If I were going to live in the suburbs, I like Bellbrook and Kettering. I think Kettering is very convenient and actually most of my go to places are in the Kettering area. My mom also lives there and really likes it. I am a little more of a city girl and I live in the city limits of Dayton in a neighborhood close to the one ktgrok mentioned above. Our home is 100 years old and there are many older nearby. There are some gorgeous homes in the historic districts but you might be next door to a fixer upper. A lot of people are investing money in the city and we really love it here. If you want to be out a little bit, Tipp City is a little north of Dayton, still in easy proximity to the base and has some really beautiful homes, more with land than you will find closer. Dayton is about equidistant to Columbus and Cincinnati and you can get to either easily. Good luck with your search. Happy to help if you have any other questions.
  10. I have already received dose 1 of the Moderna vaccine and am scheduled to receive dose 2 next week. I am a healthcare worker and after all that we have seen, I have no fear of vaccine but am terrified of COVID. The doctors I work with agree. I had minimal side effects from dose one, no worse than when I get a flu vaccine.
  11. I am a healthcare worker and I am scheduled to get mine on Thursday. It was recommended that we get it when we are scheduled to have 1-2 days off work in case it makes us not feel well. I hope it doesn't mess up Christmas but honestly, I really want nothing to do with Christmas this year so it might be better if I can sleep through it.
  12. I actually love this song. I have always looked at it from more of a "did you understand" perspective. She knew who he was but did she know how it was going to play out. The best version of the song for me is by the a capella group Pentatonix. I think it a stunning rendition that approaches the lyrics with a sense of awe and wonder.
  13. Definitely take them. The offer is there for the entire community.
  14. We went to Buxton, NC in the Outer Banks two years ago for Christmas. We got a great deal on a house with an unobstructed ocean view. We could watch the dolphins from our porch. There was hardly anyone there. Did pose a few problems for restaurants etc as it is off season but we had no trouble finding places to eat, even on Christmas. We are all introverts and it ended up being the most amazing Christmas for the four of us. Best time we ever had together.
  15. If they feel there may need to be a neurointerventional procedure at some point for clots in brain, some of the stronger blood thinners can't be reversed in time for emergent procedures. You have to wait for them to work out of your system and that can often be too long for intervention to be effective. That may be why they are sticking to aspirin - so they can get in there quickly if they need to do so.
  16. We added a third cat to our household last summer after a family friend passed away and we adopted her kitty. It completely upset the apple cart in our household and we are at our wits end. Since we added the third cat, the previous two cannot get along. The smaller female will hiss at the big male and then the male attacks her. When he attacks her, she pees everywhere and leaves a trail whereever she runs. We took her to the vet and tried to medicate her but she won't cooperate. We tried pheromone collars and that didn't work either. So, the female has been living in our bathroom to protect her and our house. The two male cats get along fine. She hates them both. I hope you find a solution. Our vet wasn't terribly helpful. I think we may seek out a new one.
  17. My rising sophomore has all online classes this semester. She was given an out when it came to requiring her to live on campus for year 2. She has an apartment with one roommate so that she can be as distanced as possible. Her sister and Dad are high risk so we will play it by ear on if she comes home for holidays, depending on where we are at that point.
  18. My eldest was so traumatized by the Velveteen Rabbit and to this day, about 13 years later, still has upsetting memories of it. She wouldn't let her little sister read it. I think she holds a grudge that I even allowed it in the house.
  19. I have a theatre major and an art major, both struggling right now with online learning to finish their current semesters. If their schools go online only in the fall, both of my kids may be sitting out a semester. It is a waste of money and time for them to try to work on their degrees online, not to mention the major hit their GPAs are going to take because they are not doing well with the online stuff.
  20. I have a Melitta cup that comes with a pot in 6 or 10 cup sizes. This doesn't keep coffee warm but they do also have them that come with a caraffe to keep the coffee warm after you make it. I love mine. I use it for my own coffee and can use for guests but doesn't take up a ton of space like a whole machine. https://www.amazon.com/Melitta-640616-Pour-Over-Coffee-Carafe/dp/B000MIT2OK/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=melitta+cup+pot&qid=1582949586&sr=8-1
  21. I don't really care for Will Ferrell or any actor that relies on that sort of humor. Its just not my thing. However, I can't stand to watch johnny Depp in anything. I think he always just looks like he needs a bath and he just creeps me out.
  22. My nephew lives in an inner city neighborhood. During recent heatwave, he decided to go outside to sleep on his porch. He awakened to being bitten by raccoon - three times. Many rabies shots later, he also no longer thinks they are cute. I only think they are cute on TV.
  23. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond because I haven't been around much. The hybrid battery is in a constant state of charging. You never have to wait for it to charge. The gas engine charges battery while it is running so when you are driving it just cycles between gas engine and battery. Our gas mileage is great. We own two hybrid vehicles and never plan to go back to a non-hybrid.
  24. I am a Toyota person and have never enjoyed driving Hondas. If she is a Toyota person, I would keep that in mind. Also, I have an older Highlander Hybrid and LOVE it. With a hybrid, nothing has to be plugged in. The gas part of the engine charges the battery. I am not interested in ever straying from Toyota again. ETA: My 2007 needs more cup holders though.
