Karenciavo
 at your typo I spell it as one word. Eventually it will become a compound word, or at least that's what I keep telling myself. :D
mcconnellboys
I *do* spell it hoe school, how did you guess, LOL? I think it's still officially two words in the dictionary, but it's also one of those instances where, through lots of usage, it's becoming combined over time into one word, so you see it a lot like that, too. So at this point in the game, you can choose whichever suits you....

Kay in Cal
I'm also in the "homeschool" camp... not official yet, but to me there is a clearly different implication than "home school". Eventually we'll be in the dictionary.

JudoMom
I like the way homeschool looks, but I like the reasoning behind home school (you don't see highschool, or elementaryschool--they have spaces in between the words, so home school should as well). I'm a fence sitter.

To homeschool one's children is a challenging undertaking. Show off! :tongue_smilie: Actually, Pam, that makes perfect sense. I will be remembering that in the future. As it stands, my instinct is to make it one word, but when I type that, spell check always corrects it to two words. But like I said, I'll be remembering these rules. Thanks, Pam. Pam "SFSOM" in TN
Would home schoolers be one or two? That's one I go back and forth on. I don't use it in any writing that will be "read" read, I used "home educated students" or "students educated at home" instead. Or if talking about the parent, "home educators." But for here on the boards and such, I think I usually type "homeschoolers."

angela in ohio
Those "outside the movement" use two words, those "inside" use one, imho. As others have probably said, it will become one word officially as its use increases with the general public, like many other words already. I am suprised, though, that you don't see it hyphenated often.
Hikin' Mama
is because my spell checker kept correcting my "homeschool" and telling me that it was "home school." Kelli in TN
I like "homskule" I prefer this spelling as well. Homeskool works too. When in doubt just change the terminology to home larnin'. Or home ejeekation. That works as well.
Plaid Dad
I write it solid (one word, no hyphen) in most contexts since that is the preferred usage among those of us who actually do this crazy thing. ;) It makes it clear that I'm part of the community I'm writing about. If I'm writing for a publication that prefers another spelling (usually two words), I tend to use alternative phrases like "home education." "Home school" looks outdated to me at this point, like "on-line" or "car phone." English usage tends to move from separate words, through hyphenation, to solid compounds, so I figure I'm just ahead of the curve. ;)

H0MEFree
We spell it homeschool. However, my spell check hates me for it. How long will it take Microsoft Word to get a clue? I hear more and more people are calling it: HOME EDUCATION or FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP. I like these better.

dirty ethel rackham
One word. It seems like most of the people who home educate their children spell homeschool, while the people that don't (including the media) use two words. Kinda like breastfeeding. gardenschooler
I agree with Dirty Ethel. Also, have you ever noticed how people who don't homeschool say "homeschooling" instead of 'homeschooling"? That's how I can tell where nosy questions are coming from! It rarely fails.

LadyAberlin
I was homeschooled. We started homeschooling in the 1980's and it was always spelled homeschool.
