My family was just talking about the menu this morning! Here's mine:

Turkey

mashed potatoes

cranberry sauce

cauliflower (special request by dd)

squash

lima beans

pumpkin pie

chocolate chip cookies (special request by same dd)

The jury is still out on the green bean casserole. It is a particular favorite of dh,but he is trying to lose some weight to fit into his suit. :)

Part of our Thanksgiving traditions include the menu so I have had mine ready for 15 years - same thing every year and the only time I fix this stuff: :001_smile:

Turkey

Cornbread and sausage stuffing

Mashed Potatoes

Gravy

Corn Pudding (old fashioned baked creamed corn kind of stuff)

Green Beans with Mustard Sauce

(green beans, butter, mustard, brown sugar, cider vinegar, parsley, bacon - for the pp)

Orange Rolls

Pumpkin Pie

and cranberry sauce for me, since nobody else will eat it...

have to add the other part of our Thanksgiving is we fast until the feast that day (which means our dinner is usually pretty early, lol)

Due to the fact that I will be spending Thanksgiving morning on the road bringing a relative to our house, we will keep it very simple:

Turkey - hope dh can maneuver the bird into the oven as I won't be present

Mashed patatoes

Carrots & Peas in Butter sauce

Baked Yams with Marshmallows

Pumpkin Pie

Apple Pie

...and LOTS of Whipping Cream!

I was going to do something different but Dh has requested traditional so I am doing:

turkey

stuffing

mashed potatoes/gravy

carrots

corn

cranberry

rolls

birthday cake for DH ( His B day is the 29th but we are celebratingit T day)

maybe another dessert or two, but I don't want a ton of left over sweets in the house!

mashed potatoes and gravy

roasted rosemary squash

peas with little onions

rolls

deviled eggs

cranberry sauce

pumpkin pie w/cool whip

pecan pie

The only thing I know for sure is

Turkey & gravy

Cornbread stuffing

Homemade cranberry sauce

Rolls

Pumpkin Pie

The rest just depends on what I get in my organic veggie box on Saturday, the 21st.

It's just the four of us so I didn't want to go buy additional veggies.

We will usually aim for some sweet potatoes or butternut squash and a green vegetable of some kind.

I am not allowed to deviate, per my father:

Really Bad Gravy made from above mentioned turkey (made by my mother)

Stuffing made with sausage, celery, onions, apples, asst'd spices

Corn

Green Beans

Rolls

However, since I don't eat turkey, this year I am also making a Navajo Stew (ala Moosewood) which includes roasted sweet potatoes, onions, peppers, beans, tomatoes and chipotles (in adobo sauce).

How could you even think of doing something other than traditional? :D In college I spent one Thanksgiving by myself. I made myself a Cornish game hen with mashed potatoes and gravy.

We are having

turkey (brined)

mashed potatoes and gravy

stuffing

sweet potatoes with marshmallows (love those!)

green beans (with bacon, sugar and cider vinegar)

green salad

cranberry sauce (maybe Cumberland sauce too, I saw a recipe for that and it looked very good)

rolls

mil is making some pies (pumpkin and apple most likely)

Fresh Cranberry Sauce

Sweet Potatoes

Green beans and carrots

My green beans are always a hit, and the recipe is so simple. I just boil them in water with minced garlic and sliced almonds. I drain and add a little butter or olive oil, salt and pepper. Sometimes I add a little mustard and parmessan cheese.

DH and I are staying home so we can get some school stuff done, so it'll be just the two of us eating. Right now I'm planning:

Turkey (just the breast, brined)

Mashed potatoes and gravy

Green salad

Veggie tray

Corn

Cranberry sauce

Rolls

Apple pie

Gingerbread drizzled with cream cheese frosting.

I don't/can't eat turkey so I'm planning on making Taco Soup the day before for me to munch on. DH is happy with that plan, more turkey for him, lol!

Other people are bringing the turkey and ham, that frees me up for making all the yummy side items. I'm making:

cranberries

cornbread dressing

mashed potatoes

sweet potatoes

green bean casserole

homemade rolls

chocolate chip pecan pie (someone else is also bringing desserts)

I'm still deciding on other veggies and appetizers.

If dh gets his way we're having turducken.

Seriously.

If you've tried one (particularly from The Cajun Grocer) and liked it, chime in.

Then I think my BIL is making sausage stuffing cause he likes his mother's recipe.

Mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, some sort of fruit salad or cranberry relish, rolls...

Thank you! That sound great and simple too. I'll give it a try this year.

YES, we've had it and REALLY enjoyed it. You can get it prestuffed too. It looks strange, because it's boneless, but it really is very good.

Our menu:

turkey and gravy

roast pork with cranberry/honeycup mustard glaze

herb stuffing

mashed potatoes

glazed sweet potatoes

turnips

green bean casserole

asparagus with butter and parm cheese

cranberry sauce

biscuits

corn bread

pumpkin pie

apple crumb pie or apple crisp with ice cream - haven't decided yet

dh is making his special mushrooms - for each pound or so of sliced mushrooms, cook in one stick of butter slowly, and when they are cooked down add one can of cream of mushroom soup. He then puts it in a double boiler and lets it go for at least an hour. He makes a pretty big batch, so he uses about 1 lb of butter and 4 cans of soup. I use it like a gravy over my turkey and stuffing, and all the mushroom lovers in our families love it! It's definitely a once a year kind of recipe though.

We eat early - around 2pm. Most of us have to go to in-laws and have turkey all over again. This year my sil is cooking at her house, and she is notorious for not having enough food or drinks. (My dh asked if she was going to cook a cornish hen for all of us.:D) My mil decided to have a turkey dinner with all the fixins on Friday to make up for it. 3 turkey meals in 2 days!:001_huh:

I'm not sure what else. We're going to my mom's. She's doing the turkey & mac & cheese, my brother is doing the greens, my BIL is doing the dressing (does it every year, since he makes the best dressing), and I'm doing the pumpkin pie. I'll probably make another kind of pie too, and also some angel biscuits and another vegetable -- possibly green bean casserole.
