I hope things are feeling less painful and more positive soon.

I thought of you when I saw this video - it might be something cheery to watch if you need it. Just for the cuteness factor.

Hopefully it works ok.

Oh my gosh, I just heard about these sweet birds on the radio. I love them so much!!

  • 2 weeks later...

In case anyone is wondering...stone is still in there and I'm still waiting on a referral to a urologist. Dr. said to let them know if I haven't heard anything by this Thursday and she will apply some pressure on her end.

I feel pretty good most of the time with the help of Azo and ibuprofen.

My current treatment consists of jumping on a trampoline and drinking beer. Yay, U.S. healthcare. 😉

It's ridiculous that you still haven't been able to see a urologist!!! Ugh!!!

My brother’s wife kidney stone saga is just as bad 😞 (ETA: asia) Think her first specialist appointment was in March, first surgery in June and second surgery next month. She has large kidney stones on both kidneys. Her “treatment” was also painkillers until surgery.
Hope you get your referral soon.

I know this is not a joking matter but this image made me LOL.

That's crazy! I wonder if yours is in a good spot and dissolving. The one I had was much smaller, and I got a faster referral. By the time the urologist got in there, it dissolved when he touched it with his instrumentation, but he said it would've been there for several more days on its own. I was not feeling good most of the time even with Azo and stronger meds, lol! When I went in for surgery, I had bruising all up and down my back where I had been applying counterpressure. I made sure the surgical techs knew what it was from; I didn't want a visit from a social worker!

I realize it's frustrating, but there are only so many urologists.

When I was dealing with my mom's TIA's, neurologists were booking as far out as six weeks in some areas. (I'm in an area with lots of docs, so my mom got in within a week).  In my online research, it was six MONTHS in the UK. (of which there was a lot of criticism because they had a higher incidence of full blown stroke because of it.)

That would be great! I am still having some bladder irritation, so I think it's still around.

When you mentioned stones dissolving, I had to do a google search. I had always heard that stones cannot dissolve on their own within the body--at least not the calcium oxalate kind I have. But, I found a study from 2018 which found that they *can* dissolve and reform! I had no idea. In case anyone is interested, here's a summary:

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/323084#Dissolving-stones-right-in-a-patients-kidney

I'm glad yours is all resolved. I know they can hurt terribly! I'm thankful I seem to be past that part.

Do they have you on Flowmax )can’t remember generic name) to relax the opening to the urethra?  Makes passing a stone easier. I just automatically take a double dose now when I get a stone (on advice of two doctors).

Yes! I am on Flowmax and it has really helped with the pain / pressure. Thank you, Jean. So sorry you have trouble with stones, too.

Oh that is great you passed it, but bless your heart ❤️. I wouldn’t mind the TMI picture lol.

Okay. Apologies to people who don't want to see this. Look away. 😉

This stone is washed and clean. Just FYI. Still looks gross, I know.

🤣 It doesn’t look gross, but I wasn’t sure what to expect either. The things we take pictures of these days! 🤣

Oh wow — thanks for posting the picture because I have never actually seen one!

But just looking at it makes me cringe — did it cause a lot of bleeding? It looks so sharp and jagged!

I’m so glad it’s finally out, but ewwwww!

Yes, it did cause bleeding. I was still bleeding several hours later but I think it's stopped now. (I could only could tell when I used the bathroom--I didn't need to use a pad or anything.) But it didn't hurt coming out.

They are definitely sharp pointy little things! And you probably can't tell in the picture, but they are sparkly due to the mineral content, LOL.

YAY MERCY!  So glad to hear of your success.   Will you need to still go in to dr?  Is there a different diet to consider for a while?  I know nothing about this.

Thank you for praying, sheryl!

I don't need to go to the urologist now, although my family doctor would prefer me to do so. (We have a high deductible so pretty much everything--including the CT scan, ultrasound, and X-ray-- is out-of-pocket. Another reason I am thankful to have passed it at home!)

I just need to go back on a low-oxalate diet which I've been lax about. My stones are made of calcium oxalate. High-oxalate foods include spinach, nuts, beans, potatoes, and chocolate.

Too much animal protein also leads to stones.

I really should drink water with lemon every day as well.

Oh my goodness!  That looks so incredibly painful!  So glad it's out!

Thank you! It hurt a lot in the kidneys and ureters. It didn't hurt in the bladder or (surprisingly enough) coming out. When it got low enough it just made it feel like I had to pee all the time.

SO HAPPY to be rid of the thing!

My urologist said that the content of the stones doesn’t tell much about why you form them. He does a 24 hour urine collection for people with repeated stones.

I did have that done but it was years ago.

Definitely a heavy genetic factor for me. My great-grandma had to have a kidney *removed* because of stones and my mom has had them too.

No stones at all when I was 95% vegan.

Oh dear, that list would limit me.  We eat all of those foods!  Well, maybe moderation is the key. So happy for you!

I gasped when I saw it! I am happy to hear you are rid of it, Mercy, but I cringe over the whole episode.

Thank you for sharing the photo, it satisfied my morbid curiosity. I am truly astonished at how jagged it is. I guess I should have realized it wouldn’t be smooth because it’s a sort of crystal (I think?), but in my imagination kidney stones are smooth like river rocks. Now I know better.

My condolences about the chocolate.
