woolybear
What's everyone making (or eating) for Thanksgiving? I haven't planned our menu yet. Usually we go to my parent's house for Thanksgiving, but that's not happening this year. I have made the whole shebang a few times and I'm really forward to doing it this year. I'd love to hear some other's menus. Maybe it will give me some new ideas. Yum! I can't wait.:)

Susan in TN
Here's ours. I usually make the majority of the dinner myself. I keep the menu, recipes, grocery list, and food prep / cooking schedule on a Word document (does this sound obsessive?) :) Roasted Turkey & gravy Sage dressing Sweet potatoes (the kind w/pineapple & marshmallows, although one year I made it in the crockpot w/ apples and cranberries and it was delicious) Mashed potatoes Cheesy Broccoli and Rice casserole Mandarin orange salad Cranberry sauce (whole berry, from a can) Dinner rolls (courtesy of Sister Schubert) Butter Sparkling grape juice Apple Cider Water Apple pie (Apple Pie II from Joy of Cooking) Pumpkin Pie Turkey cookies Whipped Cream Coffee & Tea (cream/milk/sugar) If we're having people over, they will usually bring something similar to what is on this menu, and I'll substitute, although I usually beg them to make the mashed potatoes so I don't have to. ;) We never have green bean casserole because it always tastes horrible when I make it although I generally like it if someone else makes it. BeckyFL
My new Plan to Eat thing I've been raving about again has made this soo great. Every year I haul out all the recipes, sort through, and make my list from each. This year I had them tagged "thanksgiving" and just dragged and dropped them into the calendar, pressed shopping list and poof! So cool. If you want to look at the software (free trial) just click one of my recipes below... here's my menu Turkey Mashed Potatoes (just added extra ingredient potatoes on my calendar page so it was on the shopping list) Stuffing with bread cubes, wild rice, water chestnuts, onion, celery, mushrooms and spinach (I made this into a "recipe" on my Plan to Eat since I could list ingredients and it would be on my shopping list) Pistachio Salad http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/103802/9943jcq5grbcdv/pistachio-salad Asparagus Casserole http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/103910/9943jcq5grbcdv/asparagus-casserole Sweet Potato Casserole http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/105364/9943jcq5grbcdv/sweet-potato-casserole Cranberry Relish http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/103811/9943jcq5grbcdv/crockpot-cranberry-relish Rolls (these are SO good) http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/106014/9943jcq5grbcdv/dinner-rolls Pumpkin Pie http://www.plantoeat.com/recipes/104040/9943jcq5grbcdv/pumpkin-pie Still tossing around whether to add a corn casserole and another dessert since 2 of my boys don't like pie. LuvingLife
My mom and I always cook the thanksgiving meal, and although it is hard, it's so worth it in the end!! Here is what we have first: fruit, and little things like that to keep us away from the big meal ;) We usually eat around 1:00 to 2:00 pm, depending on when the turkey is done. This is what we have next: Turkey mashed potatoes corn portuguese stuffing cranberry sauce olives sliced bread string beans and some other things as well, it depends on the company. For dessert: pumpkin gooey cake pumpkin pie apple pie Hope this helps!
Sparkle
Pretty much the traditional menu here: Turkey (Breast ordered from Boston Market) - Did I mention that my MIL called at 2:30 am to say that she just couldn't come for Thanksgiving since we're not serving a REAL turkey? This is also the woman who didn't want to host this year and thought we should all eat at a restaurant instead. Okaaay. You enjoy your dinner at Denny's, Mom. Gravy Cranberry sauce Mashed Potatoes Yams with maple syrup, butter and pecans Corn pudding Green beans Cornbread stuffing Dressing that my BIL is bringing Rolls Dutch apple pie Pumpkin pie Pecan pie Sparkling apple cider
Sherry in OH
We are having two Thanksgivings. KristineinKS
I'm really behind because I haven't figured Thanksgiving out yet this year. That's my weekend goal! We're going to get together with family, but also usually do our own dinner here. I do have a bunch of recipe links on my blog that we've been trying out lately. They're mostly, though not all, desserts & I'll incorporate the best of them into my plans. The peanut soup mentioned in my weekly report today is one thing that I know will be on the menu. I used a natural honey peanut butter to make it & it was divine (and also really different, which I love).

hsbaby
We do a pretty traditional meal: Turkey Stuffing Mashed potatoes Green beans Sweet potato casserole Corn Pumpkin pie Cranberry salad Cranberry sauce (usually fresh and canned. I like the canned. It's just not real cranberry "sauce" without the ridges!) For appetizers we usually have a platter of banana peppers wrapped in salami, olives, deviled eggs, cheese, veggies, stuff like that. We aren't too original. Luckymama
We've hosted every year since dd10 was almost one. This year we'll only have 13 at dinner. My sister and dbil come up with fantastic appetizers that basically serve as lunch. We don't sit down for dinner until almost 6pm. There is no way on Earth I want to be touching raw poultry before the sun is up  turkey basic bread stuffing cooked in the crockpot apple-walnut stuffing also cooked in a crockpot mashed potatoes gravy Maple-Glazed Roasted Sweet Potatoes (an old recipe from Woman's Day mag) Zesty Broccoli Casserole (from Cooking Light a few years back) canned cranberry sauce aka smooth fresh cranberry sauce aka bumpy steamed green beans w/ slivered almonds Pause for an hour then pumpkin custard pie sour cream layered pumpkin pie apple pie dd10 made at Girl Scouts last week (unbaked in freezer now) spice cake with creamy maple frosting pumpkin-oatmeal cookies plain cheesecake and perhaps the Cranberry-Swirl Cheesecake on the cover of the Dec 2010 Cooking Light---if we do both, I'm scale each down and use my small springform pans cider sparkling juices wine ice water coffee tea The only non-homemade items are the canned cranberry sauce and the bread used in the stuffing. Dd15 has a soy allergy and is sensitive to MSG. She doesn't like stuffing so I can use whatever bread I want. We're not big pumpkin pie eaters. Maybe chocolate cream pie? Hmm. Wendi I make shortcut chocolate pie. I use a frozen deep dish crust and Royal brand Dark and Sweet Chocolate Pudding. Homemade whipped cream, though. The secret is the specific brand and type of pudding, plus using whole milk. The Dark and Sweet is so much better than any other pudding. It's kind of a "throw together" pie but it is DH's favorite. Weird man but he's mine.
