EppieJ
Adding to the family, are you? :cheers2: I like "Kiya" the best. (pronounced with a long "i" sound, right?) My ds would have been "Kira" (long "e" sound) had he been a girl. Just thought I'd share. :D As far as least favorite, I'd have to say "Ellis". Every time I've heard that name it's been attached to a boy. Edited November 9, 2010 by EppieJ
SonshineLearner
OK, So I really like... Evangelina.. or Evangeline... and calling her "Eva" pronounces... AY VA :) I took care of a little girl Eva when I was younger... cute kid... cute name :)
specialmama
Which ones do like the best/least? My faves shall be in red. The least faves shall be in blue. Those I am indifferent to remain black. Alora Ava Cora Skye Kiya Bella Grace Addison Samara has the potential to grow on someone Bliss Mirabelle Piper cute, but a bit overdone Bree cheese, but it is cute if I knew kids wouldn't tease Halo Brooklyn Ella Sierra Gem Holly Ember Ellis unless you mean Elise, then I like it :001_smile: Johana Adalyn Emmalyn although Emma is great I think Eva Sofie Kenzie Calla Rose Kayla Kamira Kailyn Thanks :-) You're welcome. And I suppose congrats are in order... so congrats! :D
myfunnybunch
I really like Ava and Cora. I don't care for Alora, Ellis, or Halo. The rest are in the middle. :) Cat
mamalbh
Pronunciations - Kiya - Ki Yuh Ellis - like Ellis Island Dh said he thought Ellis was a boy's name, but it sounded girly to me, I guess I'll take that one off my list. I want a name that's obviously a girl. Dh & I can't agree on anything, so if the list seems like it doesn't flow it's because it has names I like & names he likes. All our others were named very quickly & we agreed right away on the names, so I'm getting desperate. She's due in Feb. so anyone have any Valentine themed names?
specialmama
A Valentine theme? hmmm... How about Lacey, Cherish, Cherie, Juliet, Paris, Angel, Angelica, hesitating on Aphrodite LOL, Desiree, Carina or Kerena... but really, you have some great names on your list! Alora Ava Cora Skye Kiya Bella Grace Addison Samara Bliss Mirabelle Piper Bree Halo Brooklyn Ella Sierra Gem Holly Ember Ellis Johana Adalyn Emmalyn Eva Sofie Kenzie Calla Rose Kayla Kamira Kailyn Thanks :-) Addison, Piper, Ella, Kayla are my fav's don't like Skye, Ellis, Mirabelle (sounds like a cow-sorry, maybe I'm just wanting some blue bell ice cream) Halo, Gem (but I like Gemma) Ember
Cinder
My favorites are Sofie and Grace. Least fave: Halo (video game) and Bella (too Twilight). Cinder

fastforward
I'm partial to Ava and Eva. One of my daughters is an Ava and my husband's grandmother was Eva. :) Piper is a cute name. I know a little girl with that name and it just fits her sparkly personality. Bella, Rose, Grace and Sierra are also lovely names. Ellis makes me think "Marsalis" of the jazz family of musicians, Ellis, Branford and Wynton. Ellis is the father. The others are interesting, but not my style. Good luck and congrats! Sherry in OH
I like Johana best, although I've usually seen it spelled Johanna. Johanna Grace would be a lovely name. My next choses in order would be Grace, Sofie, Rose, or Cora. Mirabelle is okay. Ava, Eva, and Ella are nice, but too popular right now. Most of the rest of your choices are too trendy for my tastes. I would especially avoid Halo (you'd be setting her up for a lot of teasing), Bliss (sounds like the stage name of an exotic dancer), Ellis and Kenzie (both are boy's names.) If you want a valentine, Valentine is a girl's name. It would be a nice middle name.
Gwenhwyfar
halo: it's a video game bliss: i can pretty much *hear* the teasing. think junior high boys. mirabelle: someone already mentioned cows. kayla: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over used. we had to tag girls in our old neighbourhood by some sort of identifier: little kayla, big kayla, baby kayla, kayla-with-the-red-hair, and so on. gem: if you were a kid in the eighties, you might remember ~ spelled with the j instead, but it's all i can think of when i hear the name. bella: twilight. which is a shame really - i quite like isabella. *********** there. now that i tore those all up  if i had to pick....i'd go with johana & rose. :D those actually sound good together...johana rose .... NanceXToo
Alora - too 'odd' for my tastes, I don't really like it. Ava - not my style but a perfectly good name nonetheless! Cora - very pretty, I like this one. Skye - I'm not a fan of this one. Seems a little too 'trendy' or something. It's a "to each his own" kind of name for me. Kiya - Sounds like a car :D Bella - Very pretty. I really like it (despite Twilight). Grace - Very nice! Addison - Since this means "son of Adam" I don't like it for a girl. Samara - too 'odd' for my tastes, I am not a fan. Bliss - Brings to mind the "adult" industry, if I'm being honest. Mirabelle - too 'odd' for my tastes, I don't really like it. Piper - This one was always a bit of a 'guilty pleasure' name for me and I think it's cute (but I used to watch Charmed). Bree - Desperate Housewives? Cheese? Eh. Halo - Well. It's a popular video game for xbox. It's also what some rock star guy (the one who's always on Celebrity Rehab or whatever it's called) named his son. And it sounds kind of comic-bookish to me anyway. Brooklyn - I have NEVER liked that name, but I'm not a fan of naming a kid after a city to begin with. Ella - Very pretty! Sierra - Eh. I don't love it, don't hate it. Gem - Sounds like a power puff girl or female superhero or some such. I don't like it for a 'real baby' name. Holly - Very pretty, I've always liked this one. Ember - See "Gem." Ellis - I don't like that one. Johana - Not my favorite name, but still a perfectly acceptable name. Adalyn - Too "trendy" sounding. Emmalyn - I like "Emma," but "Emmalyn" not so much. Eva - Very pretty. Sofie - Not a favorite of mine but still a perfectly good name. Kenzie - Too "trendy" sounding. Calla - Eh. Neutral on this one. Rose - Not a favorite of mine and sounds a bit TOO old-fashioned for my tastes, but still a perfectly good name if you like it. Kayla - Seems like one of those names that was "trendy" a while ago, not so much anymore. Kamira - Don't like it at all. Kailyn - This one's always been a bit of a 'guilty pleasure' name for me, too. I don't like it as much as I used to but it's still kind of cute. So.... Favorites: Cora, Bella, Ella, Grace, Holly, Eva Least Favorites: Alora, Kiya, Samara, Bliss, Mirabelle, Brooklyn, Gem, Ember, Kamira Neutral on the rest. Ginevra
Alora Ava too popular now, IMO Cora Skye KiyaI like this, but mostly because it sounds like my dd's name, Kyla BellaNo, insipid Twilight heroine GraceMy dd's middle name :) Addison Samara BlissPLEASE don't Mirabelle PiperA lot of people like this now, but I'm not a fan BreeNo HaloNo! BrooklynCute. NMS, but it's nice. Ella Sierra Gem"Jem is truly outrageous! Truly, truly, truly outrageous!" Yeah, makes me think of the 80's cartoon. Holly EmberThis is too weird for me. EllisBoy name, although I agree it sounds very soft for a male. JohanaI love this, but not this spelling AdalynMakes me think "addled" EmmalynNice Evatoo popular now SofieLike this KenzieNo Calla RoseBeautiful KaylaNo! It's run it's course. Kamira KailynNo, everyone will be confused; "Is it Katelyn? Kayley?Kayla? And how do you spell it..." It seems to me that you need to think about what your naming style is. There's quite a mix of popular and never-heard-of, classic and trendy names here. What vibe are you hoping to give off?

Rhonda in TX
I like the following: Ava Skye Grace Addison Piper Ella Holly Eva Kenzie Kayla The ones I have strong feelings against. Bella (main character in Twilight series. I wouldn't do it.) Bliss Brooklyn (I do like Brooke, though.) Ember Ellis Sofie (I prefer the alternate spelling Sophie. This one looks like sofa.) In the end, though, your child, your choice. :)
ChristusG
Alora - I like unique names. This one is not my style but if you like it, go for it. Ava - too common for me Cora - so cute! Like it! Skye - this is DD#2's middle name, so I like it. Kiya - Not my style Bella - I don't like "classic" sounding names and Bella goes with Isabella, which sounds classic. Grace - like this for a middle name. Addison - I really like this but it is getting popular. Samara - Sounds like Samaritan to me. Bliss - naughty adult name Mirabelle - it really does sound like a cow...I've heard of a cow named Clarabelle and it sounds similar. Piper - cute! Bree - cute, but not my style Halo - reminds me of the video game Brooklyn - I like this one! Ella - too common Sierra - not my style Gem - not my style Holly - don't like Ember - LOVE this one! Ellis - LOVE this one! Johana - too old fashioned sounding to me Adalyn - love it! Emmalyn - love it! Eva - dislike Sofie - dislike Kenzie - cute but very popular Calla - dislike Rose - I like Rose for a middle name Kayla - dislike Kamira - dislike Kailyn - dislike

abbeyej
Reading the list, the ones I like least are the ones that seem most trendy. Some of the others are more classic, and even if fairly popular now, I don't think they'll sound as dated in the very near future. LEAST: Brooklyn (NO! Just *No*!) Skye Bliss Halo (all I think of is the video game) Addison (trendy, tv soap kind of name) Ember Kenzie Ellis Kamira Kailyn BEST: Cora Ava Grace (okay, heavily used, but one that can never go out of style) Johana Eva Rose Names I don't completely hate, but wouldn't use: Alora Kiya Bella (Isabel / Isabella has been sooooo popular for the last decade, but since Twilight it's even worse. I think it's a fine name, but I wouldn't use it now.) Samara Mirabelle Piper (A fine name, but I worry it's too trendy and will fade very quickly) Bree Ella (lovely, but over used) Sierra Gem (almost put this on the "least" list) Holly (meh) Adalyn Emmalyn (I'd use Emmaline, but not Emmalyn -- the "lyn" thing is trendy, not classic) Sofie (lovely classic name, but used a lot lately. I'd stick with "Sophia" nn "Sophie") Calla Kayla

3littlekeets
I LOVE Cora Piper Bree (Desperate Housewives and short for Brianna, but I still like it!) Ella Ellis (My 12 yo DS has an adorable Ellis as a friend. I think it great, and her sister is Emory). Sofie Kenzie (I know a few adult Kenzie's. 1 short for McKenzie, but I think it is nice as a stand alone -- and not boyish at all.) Good luck! I'd stay away from Bliss, Ember, Skye, and Halo. And, Brooklyn is well -- a not so great area of NY. Unless you are doing it for that reason, I'd stay clear. TravelingChris
I wouldn't name anyone Samarra. It makes me immediately think of "Appointment in Samarra" which is a story about meeting death. I would check the meanings and allusions of names. Just because I know of this one doesn't mean there is some bad allusion with another uncommon or even common name. I don't read Twilight so I wouldn't have immediately seen that one but others do. Like someone else said, I am not a fan of using city names or last names for first names. I like the normal names like Grace, Sofie, etc.

Jennifer3141
I'm a traditional name type person myself. I HATE the trendy names. I remember laughing about the name Brandon becoming popular when 90210 came out and poof! I have a nephew Brandon. :glare: I also have a SIL who couldn't stop talking about 90210. Go figure. Alora sounds to me like the main character in a fantasy novel. That's kind of neat if you read a lot of fantasy fiction and you're hoping to raise a child who will slay dragons when she grows up. Brooklyn makes sense to me if you live there and love it - otherwise why not Detroit or Calcutta or Abu Dhabi? Piper I see as a ten year old running along the beach. Piper as a lawyer or a doctor or a champion welder? Piper at 50? Not so much. Maybe an artist though! Ember could grow up to work in porn and wouldn't have to change her name! I do like Grace, Holly, Eva. The traditional ones, of course. And I won't make fun of you whatever you decide to name your baby because my kids have truly tradtional (and geeky) names! :tongue_smilie: Jen
