alysee
My 4yo loved her IKEA play kitchen from 15 months to 3.5 years old but she hasn't played with it for 9 months. My husband wants to keep it since we do have another baby on the way but I want to get rid of it because it's already gone unplayed with for so long. What would you do? KSera
If you have a baby on the way, in the blink of an eye he or she will be 15 months old and playing with it as well. If you liked the toy, I would hang onto it at this point.
Corraleno
Nine months isn't that long — it's likely that if you got rid of it, your 4 yr old would suddenly want to play with it again, because that's always how it seems to go! And with another baby on the way I would definitely keep it.
KungFuPanda
Get rid of it then buy a new one for the next kid? This does not compute. Wait until the LAST kid outgrows it and THEN clear it out. There’s no good reason to get all new baby toys for subsequent babies.
mommyoffive
Keep it. The new baby will be playing with it in no time. Also My kids always love when something was packed away for a bit and then brought back out. Loved it like it was a brand new toy.
Kassia
I also vote to keep it for all the reasons above. 🙂
Pamela H in Texas
keep it for new babe 🙂
Spryte
Another vote to keep it! We made a rotating toy library in our garage, and rotated some toys in and out of the play areas. Made them much more exciting! Would doing something like that work for you?
regentrude
Keep until your LAST child has outgrown it. I don't understand the rationale behind getting rid of toys only to rebuy a couple years later for the next kid.
Clarita
Keep it for the new baby. The new baby can use it before the 15 month mark. My youngest started at the play kitchen pretty early because it was there, just emptying and filling the oven.
Annie G
Keep it- I bet when the baby is a toddler that your oldest will have a renewed interest in playing with it, because she can be the mommy. Our youngest grand has a play kitchen and at 7.5 still plays with it often enough to warrant keeping it. Your Dd might renew her interest now if you refurbished her kitchen toys, like added more play food or something.

lmrich
Keep it and maybe put something different in it for your 4 year old. One of my dd's did not play kitchen so much, but when I made it look like a restaurant she could not stop playing with it. I made little menus, a little apron, gave her a pencil and a notepad. She went nuts.
KidsHappen
Keep it. I am still rotating some of my kids toys through the grandkids, plus of course I have to have toys here for them to play with.
Amethyst
Oh man. My baby is 22. We still have ours! Was I supposed to get rid of it? Lol. Thinking about future grandkids at this point. 4

Katy
If you have the storage space rotate it out until the new baby starts to pull up. Then bring it back. ETA: if space is at a premium get rid of all the big rarely played with toys. Kids generally want to play with small toys, not big ones. MercyA
Play kitchens might be my #1 toy for play value. Absolutely I would keep it for now.
mom2samlibby
I would keep it. Seems silly to think about getting rid of it when you have another child on the way.

Our kids got a lot of use out of our play kitchen. I would hang onto it. We moved ours to the basement now that our youngest of 4 is 5. It is probably almost time to say goodbye. But play food and toy kitchen stuff was definitely a big hit with all of them. And I bet they cost a whole lot more these days to replace. Porridge
Keep it! Your older child may go back to it when the new sibling arrives. And, the new sibling will quickly be old enough to play with it as well.
Elizabeth86
I'd keep it because I'm a kids stuff hoarder so feel free to ignore me. 😂
LMD
Keep it forever. It's expensive to rebuy everything for a surprise, later in life baby (ask me how I know!) 😆😆😆 1
Tanaqui
I'm assuming it's in good condition and you don't urgently need the space? If so, definitely keep.
Ausmumof3
Unless you are super tight for space I would keep it.

We didn’t have space for a play kitchen so we bought a toy microwave, a toy cash register and lots of play food. My boys had so much fun and we just add on to the play food collection when we see interesting ones. OP, I would keep the play kitchen for the baby. Even if I could afford to give away and buy again later, supply chain is still cranky and you might not be able to get another. Besides this play kitchen has lasted so long so it’s durability has been proven. New stock may not be as durable.
Shoeless
Definitely keep it. Put it in the attic or garage until baby is here if it's bugging you right now.
