SebastianCat
My DS is 15 1/2 (and that "1/2" is pretty important to him because it means he's now only 6 months away from his driver's license). We have a tradition of marking each child's height on the wall on their birthday and half birthday. Today when we went to make his 15 1/2-year mark, he had not grown at all from his 15th birthday, which is the first time we've seen no growth since we started recording (shortly after his 1st birthday). We know/think that DS isn't completely done growing because he had a stress fracture this fall, and the growth plates in his shins were still clearly open on his x-rays and MRI. He's currently 5'9" and is already taller than both me and my DH. Based on the calculators that you can use for babies/toddlers and parents' height, I had expected him to be around 5'10"-5'11". For those who have older teen boys or adult sons, did they have one last growth spurt before they were completely finished growing? Did you see a period of no growth like what we've seen, then a growth spurt, or did they just stop growing and that was it? bettyandbob
14, but I think that's unusual. Ds is 6' My dh (5'11") was his full height on 8th grade. My dad (5'10") says he grew an inch in college. I think my brother (5'11") did as well. Edited November 24, 2017 by Diana P.
cjzimmer1
My oldest grew 9 inches between 13 and 14, then a slow growth of another couple of inches by the time he was 16. Then no growth till sometime past 18 and by 19 1/2 we had discovered he grew another inch. My second DS is 17 has had no discernible spurt at all just very slow growth through the teen years. Same experience here with late growth spurts - even into early 20's.
Elizabeth86
Not a boy, but I was the same height from 7th grade and then at the age 21 I grew an inch.
Selkie
I'm not sure if my teen boys are done growing yet or not. Ds19 is 6'5" and ds17 is 6'2". Both of them have grown steadily with no big spurts. Same for dd15. She is 5'10" and I think she may still have some growing to do because she only got her first period about a year ago. JudoMom
My older two are still growing. Oldest is 18.5, is barely eeking more height out, but ds17 grew an inch from March-September. He's already 3-4 inches taller than expected.
Lady Florida.
Mine was actually slow growing. When he was 14-15 he had friends a year or two younger who were taller than him. He didn't get his spurt until late 16. Then it came almost all at once and he stopped not long after he turned 17. He's 5'11" (he was hoping to make it 6' to match his older brother :) ) Edited November 24, 2017 by Lady Florida.
theelfqueen
I think my Oldest stopped at 19 or 20. 16 year old has not stopped. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Liz CA
Early 20s. He shot up quite a bit between 18-21 if I remember right.
mumto2
DS appears to have stopped growing at 17. We are actually hoping that he has because he is 6’ 4â€. But one of his uncles did not really start growing until 17 so how tall is this guy going to be is the running family joke.
6packofun
I think somewhere between 17 and 18 for oldest and middle ds seems to be headed the same way, but he's only 16.5 now. He grew about 2 inches in the past year.
AK_Mom4
DS21 has put on another two inches in height in college. He is about 5'9" now DS25 grew 3-4 inches in college. Lady Florida.
It was really frustrating to him as his friends both shot up at 14, and towered over him. But now, he towers over them. It was frustrating for my son too. I don't know if this is really true (never bothered to look it up) or if his doctor just said it to make him feel better. He said the boys who start puberty early are about as tall as they'll be by 14 or 15. Those who start later often end up taller. (He has at least one friend who started early and is still taller than him so I suspect the doctor was just trying to placate him).
kewb
Mine is 19 and still growing. He came home from college for Thanksgiving noticeably taller than dh. He was a late bloomer. My dh grew until he was 21.

All of his friends hit their growth spurts at 11/12 and he was starting to worry. I told him that all the kids that were the tallest in my ms were the shortest at the end of hs.
bethben
My ds was 16 and a little when he seems to have stopped. He hopes it's for good since he's been buying clothes and shoes he likes. He's also 6'2". I have a feeling he may grow a little more. My boys started growth spurts around 12.
snowbeltmom
My oldest stopped growing around age 17. My college freshman son is still growing and is taller than his older brother.
Lady Marmalade
Oh my, these comments are not encouraging! My 13 year old is 6'3" and impossible to clothe as it is. DH is 6'4" and I'm hoping DS is getting close to being done.
MarkT
I grew an inch between 17-19 DS would like to see the same or more [best to ask around your family everybody's genetics are different]
Butter
My son is 16 and 6'1" and is still growing. My brother grew until he was around 20, but then he didn't really start growing until 16!
SebastianCat
Wow - thanks for all of the responses. Looks like the large majority of boys aren't done growing in their mid teens. DS will be encouraged to hear so many others' experiences.
freesia
Mine stopped for a couple of years 14-16 and just grew another 2 inches.
Tap
Finished about 20 yo. He was close to full height at about 15yo, but grew in small spurts over the next few years. He is 6ft tall.
Meriwether
My brother grew another inch in college putting him at 6'6". He went through three pant sizes when he was 14. I don't think he had huge growth spurts after that, just slow and steady. My 13 hasn't had a big growth spurt yet, but he is about 5'4". I think he will end up at about 6'-6'2", but I only say that because Dh is 6'3".
J-rap
I think around 17 maybe? But both my brother and sister have boys who seemed to stop growing in high school, and then grew another several inches sometime during college years. PinkyandtheBrains.
Around 15/16 for oldest. He had a recent X-ray and his growth plates looked done. Younger is 15 and hasn’t hit his growth spurt yet.
Ausmumof3
My bro was shorter than everyone in his class but kept growing till he turned 21 and ended up tall
Carrie12345
I just checked my markings and it looks like ds grew about 4.5" between 13 and 14, another 4.5" between 14 and 15, and then a whole 0.5" between 15 and 16, and then it stopped. He's 19 and approximately 6'4".
Carrie12345
My husband (not ds's father) hit his big growth spurt around 17. I hope his kids didn't get a crazy combo of our genes, because my 15yo dd is already nearly as tall as me (I'm 5'9") and her 14yo sister isn't too far behind. Our younger two are fairly tall for their ages, too.
