The Girls' Mom
My twins requested a Totoro themed cake for their birthday this year. This was my first serious try with fondant. I used the Marshmallow fondant recipe, learned the hard way that you have to knead it for quite a while to get the sugar mixed in well. nukeswife
Awesome. I didn't know what Totoro was, but thought maybe it was a Pokemon I was unaware of (when my kids talk of pokemon, I go all Madagascar Penguin on them. Just Smile and Wave boys, just smile and wave) so it looks like I wasn't to far off.

The Girls' Mom
My 19 yo dd went squee! So, where in those hills are you and would you meet me in October with one just like it?:D Lol! Knoxville ;) Thanks everyone! No, I don't do it professionally, yet. My dd Miranda would love to, and is quite good at it as well. Maybe we'll go into business together..lol. The hardest part was getting Totoro to look right. I was going to make a big cake ball sculpture thing and dip it in colored candy melts, but that failed miserably. So I just scuplted him entirely out of fondant. Edited May 12, 2012 by Apryl H

I have helped my daughter once for a competition (just in making the fondant), but this is my first cake. I used to do a lot with sculpey clay though, and this isn't to far from it.
