Plucky
Do European women shave or do brazilians like so many Americans? I know that European women used to not shave at all. So, I wonder if the trend has caught on there.

Laura Corin
Most British women shave their legs and armpits; I don't. I happened to ask my lip-waxing lady last week about bikini waxes; she said that they were fairly rare - people might get it done once a year before going on holiday. She didn't mention any other intimate waxing. I haven't heard of any intimate shaving, but I don't know how I would hear..... Husband wants to know if young men shave their own pubes. It is so sad. It all stems from the p*rn industry. It is the same here in Aus. Most of the women I know my age or younger (late 20's) do wax some down there. I've read before someone saying that young men don't know what real women are supposed to look like any more... elizabeth
You have got to be kidding. About the other parts, I mean. I completely agree with it being ridiculous. It comes from the porn industry just as the excessive breast augmentation and push up bras for tweens are now the norm. I refuse to look like a prepubescent girl. There is a difference between ladyscaping and waxing the whole business. Until women refuse to acclimate themselves to porn culture these trends will continue. FWIW I think it is one matter to do what is comfortable for oneself versus wanting approval from a lover regardless of gender.

katilac
Husband wants to know if young men shave their own pubes. Laura Yes. Trimming and such is called manscaping; complete shaving is often called a bald eagle :D Both old and young, male and female, do a lot of, er, manicuring in my area. Some of it is fashion, and some of it is the fact that it's very hot and humid, and manicured . . . areas . . . can be much more comfortable. Julie Smith
In my area most people don't shave. Several people don't ever trim. DesertDweller
From what I've read (it was in Redbook or something like that) and heard (from a friend who is an OB nurse), most women over 40 don't shave down there, many under 30 do, and the thirty-something crowd is a mixed bag. I never shaved much except enough to wear a swim suit. I eventually decided to shave a little more and a little more then finally went bare. I like it much better. It certainly wasn't because of porn. Dh shaves too. I would have done it sooner, but I was always afraid if I had to go to the doctor he would think I was strange not to mention how embarrassed I thought I would be. After reading more about it and finding out that it isn't that uncommon, I decided to go ahead. I think it's a preference thing. I don't know if it will become the standard. Maybe with the younger crowd. I'm 48. I think people should do whatever they're comfortable doing.

It is extremely common among the younger Chinese generation and the westerners on the island but not so much with the Indians and Malays. And it is cheap and fast. Tangerine
Not to put out too much personal info here, but in my 20s I had a man express an interest in the thread topic. I told him if that was a deal-breaker, he was free to go elsewhere. I hope to high heaven I raise a girl who is not so swayed by trends or the aesthetic desires of others as to give a flying fig what they think, or change her grooming habits accordingly. And, porn or no porn, I hope to raise a boy who understands the difference between real bodies and lens-filtered, hairless, augmented bodies. I'm pretty sure both of those things are possible, regardless of the trends.
