  1. Dd has been saving for a car. We found a 2001 Saturn with low mileage, 70,000. They are only asking $2000. Seems a little too good to be true. Does anyone know anything about Saturns? Are they dependable? What about repairs? Do they require specialized parts?
  2. After writing out a job description, I thought the title of Home Educator fit nicely. I think I will use that. Thanks to each of you for your help.
  3. I need to go back to work part time. I'm looking at the applications and they want a complete job history including any time that I was unemployed. We were self-employed. I worked from home many years even when homeschooling, but I have at least six or seven years that I didn't work and only homeschooled. What is the best way to list this? Do I just put 'Homeschool Mom'? Or 'Homeschooler'? And what do I list as a job description? It seems simple enough, but I want to make it sound as good as possible. WWYD or what have you done if you've applied for a job?
  4. We are trying to find ways to cut back. One of the things we are looking at is the insurance on our vehicles. We have two trucks. Both are over ten years old with 200,00 plus miles. One is in good condition and runs well. The other is in poor condition and is used only for driving close to home. We currently have full coverage on both with limits of 100,000/300,000 along with uninsured and underinsured coverage. We aren't necessarily wanting to carry just liability, but I know that what we have is too much given the age of our vehicles. If you have older vehicles, how much insurance do you have? What type of limits and deductibles? What would you do?
  5. I would let grandma bring gifts. The things you mention don't seem over indulgent at all, especially once a year. It sounds like the problem is with others. I would let grandma enjoy her limited time and let her bring gifts. I would curtail the overindulgence being done throughout the year by others.
  6. If you're in Phoenix, you might try Cowtown. We go there quite often. Their prices are reasonable, and they have a large selection. There is one at Thunderbird & I17. Not sure of any other locations.
  7. We've had five cats over the last thirteen or so years. At one point, we had four at the same time. The only time any of them peed on the carpet was a female that had become ill. She had lost weight, was sleeping a lot, and wasn't always able to get to the litter box. Other than that, we've never had a problem. When we lived in our previous house, the two males didn't use the litter box. Instead they always went outside to a place in the back yard, but they never went in the house. The females were also indoor/outdoor cats but preferred the litter box to outside.
  8. If I needed to and could get food stamps, I would. If my kids didn't like beans and rice, I would find other things that were cheap. This is kind of what we're doing now. It may not always be the best nutritionally, but there is nothing wrong with grilled cheese, cup of soup, spaghetti w/ little or no meat, potatoes cooked in various ways, eggs, etc. I have found many things on sale that would work just as well as beans and rice. I also don't think there's anything wrong with kids knowing that we're having financial problems. Life isn't perfect. It wasn't when I was growing up. I think it's good for them to know that we sometimes go through hard times. I want them to know that you buck up and learn to make the best of it until things get better.
  9. Interesting site. Looks pretty accurate for my height and weight.
  10. This happened to me sometime after dd was born, and it was an aquaintance of mine that I ran into in the grocery store. It's not exactly what you want to hear when you're not pregnant and just have a tummy you can't seem to get rid of very easily. Sorry it happened to you.
  11. No. I would probably expect it to be a man. I've always thought most of them are men.
  12. I'm 49. My youngest will probably be moving out in 1-3 years. She will be turning 18 and going to college in a year. She and her best friend have talked about sharing a place and being roommates. Not sure how feasible that will be while trying to go to school, but that is what she's wanting to do. I don't have any definite plans as of yet. We are in the process of shutting our business down. Dh has already found a job. I can't imagine being home every day just taking care of the house. I will probably go back to work, but at this point, I'm just not sure.
