Moxie
My daughter wants to TorT with her bff next door but bff has to go to her Mom's tonight. They want to TorT at 4:30 but I think that is too early. What says the Hive?
ktgrok
Too early. After dinner is the expectation. That said, could they go to a few neighbors you know well enough to give them a heads up? I would think 5pm is the earliest.
hjffkj
Too early around here. I wouldn't open the door that early because we'd be getting the kids fed and ready to go out around 6.
mommymilkies
Way too early. 6 pm or dark is usually the rule in most places. Some start at 5 pm.
MEmama
Too early. We wouldn't be home or ready. 6 is the norm in our neighborhood.
Seasider
Way too early. I probably won't be back from the grocery store with candy by then.
Word Nerd
Too early. I have something to do at 5 today and won't be ready for any trick or treaters much before 6. I wouldn't expect neighbors to be ready either.
Pawz4me
I think it's too early, and we likely won't be home at that time. But if anyone rang the bell and I was here I'd be happy to treat them. The Halloween bucket is full of candy and waiting. ;)
regentrude
Too early. It's still light out.
Annie G
Our town announces official T or T hours. This year it's 5-7. If Halloween falls on a weekday it's 5:30-7:30 to allow time for working parents to get home before it begins. Do your areas not have suggested hours? Then again, our town also says houses participating have porch lights on, so you'd assume nobody would come to our door if our porch light is off. Nope. We'll have hundreds come anyway even though our light will be off.
Guest
Our neighbourhood merchants have daytime trick or treat for the littles, but it is dusk for residences and has been since I was a child---and that was a LONG time ago!
itsheresomewhere
I would say too early but then again I just had some treaters an hour ago. Mind you they were all under one.
SporkUK
That would have been around sunset where I am so I wouldn't have seen an issue though we don't tend to get the few we do get here until around 6:30.
Zebra
Definitely too early.
Pippen
Too early, but I'd open the door for little ones or close neighbor kids. ToT is 5-8 here.
Dmmetler
Dusk here, so about 6:30 or even 7:00. I'm planning to be set up by 6:00 inside the door, and move to the front porch by about 6:30 or so.
Rachel
I say too early but I have my candy ready just in case any kids come and I will pass it out no matter what time kids come by. Our town suggests 6-8 but I think 5 is fine.
KungFuPanda
I won't have candy before 6. I'm hosting a party right now. (Teen gamers . . . My role is to surf the Internet and pay for pizza.) This wraps up at 5, then I go buy candy, THEN I'm open for business.

alisoncooks
5:30 is when we usually head out. We are usually one of the early-birds.

Guest
Well, they went. There were other kids out and they did score a lot of candy. It is 5:00 here now and we've had about 15 kids so far.
Julie Smith
Soon. So I would say about 630. On a related note, I can still fit my wedding dress.... And I'll be the fanciest looking fairy trick or treating tonight. :) .... Mind you I have no plans to bend over, which is a good thing.
jenn-
They start at 5 here. They were all definitely out at that hour tonight care of impending rain chances.
JFSinIL
Here it started at 3, and ran until 7. If you wait untilk after dinner at 6 -6:30ish you won't be out for long.
ondreeuh
We had our first kid at 4:15, and I hadn't even bought candy yet! The next ones didn't come until like 5:30 when it was dusk. By 8 there were only troublemaking teens out so we turned out the lights.

We have a lot of teens that trick or treat here but never had any behavior issues (no pranking or anything) and we live in a huge neighborhood. ondreeuh
Most of the teens are fine, but the kids on rollerblades being dragged by the truck with the loud speakers, shining flashlights everywhere and then coming up to the door with a freaking crate crate in the door and a d!ldo hanging out of their pants ... they were not welcome. Last year we had teens who were drunk or high drive up to our door on ATVs.
