Kathryn
If you saw a man in a shirt that said "I (heart) MY HOT WIFE" what would you think? There is a disagreement over this. Somebody in the disagreement says the wearer thinks his wife is attractive and that's what people think when they see the shirt. The other person in the disagreement snickers every time the shirt is seen because this person feels that the Urban Dictionary definition of "hot wife" is well-known and everyone who sees it thinks this man's wife has tEA with other men and he likes it. AmandaVT
I would think he's a tacky guy who thinks his wife is hot and the t shirt is funny. I've never heard of the Urban Dictionary definition of hot wife before.

Janie Grace
I think that he thinks his wife is hot and is trying to get "sweet husband" points for announcing it to the world. Tacky. The Urban Dictionary scares me.
goldberry
Never heard the second definition. Maybe someone thinks no straight man would wear it. ;) I once saw a teenage boy wearing a shirt that said I heart soccer moms. That creeped me out.

Farrar
If I was feeling forgiving, I guess I'd choose the first. But I'm not feeling forgiving, so I'll say I'd assume that he values his wife's looks above all else and how it enhances his supposed masculinity.
Murphy101
Other. Really? I'm the only one again? I had zero idea it could have anything to do with any kind of third party in the bedroom. I still don't think it does. Contrary to what people sometimes think, not everything read online is true. I think the man is odd. Why would he need to proclaim this to anyone other than his own wife? My husband makes sexy comments to and about me all the time. To me. About me. With me. I don't know if the guy loves his wife or just loves bragging to other people about his pretty trophy. Weird.
zoobie
Wasn't the shirt started by some preacher? Using the first meaning. It's very odd. If I knew the person, I'd be snarky and ask if he knew the other meaning. I had not heard of it before this thread. One of our friends has an I (heart) my wife bumper sticker on his truck that was the result of a lost bet with her. Cracks me up every time I see it!

The couple involved are random distant family and always posting Christian stuff on Facebook, hence the snickering about the other meaning by that person, so it being started by a preacher wouldn't surprise me. SKL
Weird, but I would assume it means he thinks his wife is pretty awesome. I would think there's at least a 50% likelihood that his wife gave him the shirt. :P
Tsuga
Never heard of "hot wife" being a euphemism for anything. Even if it is, my bet is that this guy has no clue. I hope he and his wife are enjoying his ownership of that tee shirt.
marbel
I'd never heard of the second definition so I looked it up. It is there, in the UD. But, there seems to be a breed of Christian preacher right now who seem to think it's required to make references to their hot wives darn near every time they speak. I don't know why that is. I've already told my husband (part-time associate pastor) not to engage in that practice. Our lead pastor does not either. So, I'm guessing that's what the shirt came out of. Either way, tacky to me. I assume men love their wives. Maybe that kind of thing is a gift from an insecure wife?
HS Mom in NC
The first. Wasn't aware of the second. I don't spend much time in circles where the second would be used. I would assume the motivation is a guy wanting to win points with the wife. No married woman I personally know would comfortable with her husband owning or wearing that shirt. A former pastor of mine used to constantly refer to his [now late] wife's attractiveness. She was a stunningly beautiful woman who tragically died of cancer in her early 40s, but his need to point it out all the time seemed really odd to me. I think it's OK to call your wife beautiful in front of people now and then, but if you can only talk about her by saying, "My beautiful wife fistname, " every single time you say her name, it seems like someone in that relationship has a minor psychological need that should be addressed.
MFG
I thought the correct term was "smokin' hot wife". I seems for the second definition it should be written as one word - hotwife.

About 15 years ago at the church we were attending the guy heading up all the PK stuff had an affair with his best friend's wife (also members of the church.) The couples stopped attending church, divorced, the innocent spouses moved on and the couple having the affair got married and are still married. The fist wife was best friends with the cheating wife before the affair and they seem to have worked out some sort of peace because of all the events they have to go to for the kids and grandkids. Ugh! What a mess.

It's one of many reasons we're leaving the church. Seriously? Well, we don't clap during a service so that would never happen anyway, but even if we did, no one would applaud that. (Presbyterians, ya know?) :-) I suspect if either pastor said it, unless to make a point about people who wear inappropriate t-shirts, he would get a stern talking to from one of the elder members.

I also think if a husband truly loved his wife, he wouldn't be acting like the only reason he is with her is because she is hot. That is SO inappropriate.
