The current favorite is the Ranger's Apprentice series that Dh is reading outloud to the boys. Dh started book 7 this evening. I shared all our favorites from 2013 in this blog post, as well as links to top picks lists from previous years: http://www.hopeisthewordblog.com/2013/12/26/read-aloud-thursday-december-2013-list-and-top-ten-for-2013/
Annie Laurie
I wish I'd kept better track because it's already hard for me to remember, but I'll always have a soft spot for The Wizard of Oz as a read aloud because it was the first one my kids sat through when very little. Catwings would be another when they were little and I was trying to get them used to shorter chapter books. Also, The Trumpet of the Swan, Charlotte's Web, Homer Price, and Pippi Longstocking. Little Britches is a more recent favorite, as well as Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.

Tenaj
Some of our favorites have already been mentioned. I'll add: Homer Price: Our book has been read so many times that it's almost in tatters. I think I'm on our fifth read aloud through it - it's on my 7yods schedule this week but all of the kids keep gathering around to listen. We were on the yarn story yesterday - if you've ever read, you'll understand how fun it was for me to watch my 7yo's eyes as he tried to figure out how Miss Terwillinger won the contest! Guest Lexy1918
I'm excited to try my hand with many of the books listed here! Thanks for posting! My grandchildren are still quite young and my very favorite read aloud's are the Little Bear books by Elsa Holmelund Minarik. They have proved to be a terrific platform for further made up episodes. Banjo Grannie is another favorite of the children's. It includes a song I sing which invariably gets them up and dancing. Again, many made up stories have resulted all starting in Owen's fabulous bed in the alcove.

It's the first one that came to my mind, too! Next was Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf by Catherine Storr. Funny stuff. And yes, I agree with Kareni: George and Martha--we loved, loved, loved those. Walking-Iris
I love how many people are saying they loved Despereaux. I love reading that book. It's a book that both my boys just listen to...you know really really listen and think about. We have a hardback version and it's always an experience. The spine of the book read first, ... it's a treasured book and story here. I hope my dd has the same feeling when I read it to her. Another we really love that I didn't mention are George MacDonald books...The light Princess, Princess and the Goblin. For little ones. Little Bear. Always Little Bear. All my kids loved those stories!
