When my last mastiff died, I prayed he would die at home before the scheduled euthanasia the next morning and thank God he did with his head next to me. I spent the night on the fold out couch cuddled up with the puppy, because the best medicine for a broken heart is a dog to snuggly. Thankfully my husband wasn't offended that I wanted the puppy last night and not him.
