Ottakee
Just wondered if you have a lock on your bedroom door?
Stratford
Yes, but the kids can open it with a penny....so, no?
justLisa
YES. With what we are usually doing we would need FAR more notice than the sound of the handle turning :tongue_smilie:
Ottakee
Yes, but the kids can open it with a penny....so, no? I should have added that to the poll----yes, but one the kids can open:confused:
Munchkins_mama
Yes! In fact, I think the click of locking the door is part of the action. haha! Dh will be almost asleep when I am finally ready for bed and I turn the lock and he is instantly wide awake. :tongue_smilie:
Munchkins_mama
Yes, but the kids can open it with a penny....so, no? Our locks CAN be opened, but I don't think it has ever occurred to the children that they could break in. I'm pretty sure that would be some serious trouble for them if they tried. butterflymommy
We have not one but three locks AND a door chain between the kids and our naked selves. They still try to get through! The three locks are on three different doors-- the first floor of our house can be closed off as a separate apartment.
KS_
Yes, but the kids can open it with a penny....so, no? Same, but the kids have been taught to knock if the door's closed, and they're pretty good about it.
nova147
Our door doesn't shut right, so the lock is useless. However, it does become VERY difficult to open if we get it shut all the way. We usually shut it, but sometimes forget. I always hear the kids if they get out of bed. DH syas I have superhuman hearing as far as the kids are comcerned. (I also wake from a dead sleep if one of them stirs. Annoys me so much!)
Delighted3
We have 2, since the one, ahem, failed when one of my young children was especially persistent. :001_huh: Actually, all of my children are older now and most of them will knock before entering, but I still lock both locks out of habit. desertmum
The poll needs an "Other" choice. We don't lock the door but I put a bell hanging from a thread -the kind stores use. Hopefully this will give us some warning.;)

PrincessMommy
Yes we lock it all the time. There have been 2-3 occasions when we didn't and let's just say that one or another of our kids got an education she wasn't expecting
FaithManor
Yes, very, very important feature and it's saved us some :blushing: a fews times too. We've got three boys completely clueless, though not for lack of education on the subject, about privacy. As in apparently the parents do not need any privacy but HOW DARE WE WALK IN ON THEM IN THE SHOWER EVEN THOUGH THE CURTAIN IS DRAWN! I find my boys to be very entertaining at times and I really hope they all end up having at least one male child that is an accurate representation of themselves. This will bring me endless laughs! :D Faith
Forget-Me-Not
Yes, but we usually only use it in the a.m. if we're worried about kids getting up (or if some/all of them are already up). If its late at night, we often don't bother. Our kids are pretty sound sleepers and we can hear them approaching on the hardwood floor anyway. PeacefulChaos
Yes, BUT I think the kids could still get it open pretty easily. Our door doesn't even latch all that well, so...
Ipsey
I lock. And if hubby locks, I double-check. I find it hard to get in the mood if I have any worry of an interruption. :)

Mélie
We have a lock, but rarely use it. If our kids have nightmares, they tend to sit in their beds and scream out to us, so we don't have to worry about them coming in.
Farrar
I missed the original thread... who was busted doing what in the bathroom? If it was just using a toilet for its intended purpose or taking a bath or shower... um... we have kinda a lax attitude about nudity and body functions. My kids have totally seen that all before. And vice versa me of them. ETA: And therefore we're fine with our lockless bathroom door.
The Girls' Mom
No lock on ours...but the very thought of glimpsing dad even in his undies is deterrent enough. They wouldn't think of barging in without knocking. Now, when they were a bit younger, and we were in a different house, yes we had a lock.
thescrappyhomeschooler
I just had locks put on our bedroom door, my sister's bedroom door and the bathroom door about 3 months ago. Before that, we didn't have any locks on any internal doors. The kids have never walked in on us, though. There were a couple of close calls, but things were stopped and covered up in time. :tongue_smilie:
MamaT
Yes, we lock the door. Our kids are older now and would never just barge in, but I need the door locked anyway. Our youngest daughter was determined to get in our room one Sunday afternoon when she was about four. When she couldn't get through the locked door, she went outside to our private deck and our sliding glass door. We almost died when we saw her standing out there. Her comment: "I've never seen you do THAT!" I hope she's forgotten.

gardenmom5
the irony is: the only time we were glad to have a lock was with a TEENager who tried to open it to ask a question.

BigMamaBird
We have a lock but only because it was there when we bought the house. We have littles so we sleep with the door open anyway so we can hear them.
precious4b
I smiled when I read this post....our four children are all young so it hasn't been much of an issue until this past year as our oldest turned 7 and I'd really rather not have him walk in on us so...we began teaching them not to open the door (locked or not) until we have given them permission to enter. tabrizia
We have a lock, but the door doesn't shut right so a good push will open the door even locked, plus the 5 year old can unlock the door with a penny. We never lock the door either so it doesn't really matter. Only time we've been interrupted though has been by a screaming baby at this point in time, who just woke up and wanted to nurse. JVA
YES ! And it only took once time for us to ensure that it works and is locked nearly every night..regardless if things heat up. I don't think our dd remembers barging in on us, but we'll NEVER forget. She was about 10 or so. Our kids also know to knock before entering a room.
