Classic tv shows or even not so classic to show kids

Recommended Posts

I am trying to show my kids the tv shows that I grew up with and their grandparents grew up with. Just a taste of each so they know a bit about the cultural issues and such when people older than them talk about it.

So far I have:

I Love Lucy

Andy Griffith

Happy Days

Partridge family

Brady Bunch

The Waltons

Carol Burnett

I know some of those aren't so much classics. :)

Any other suggestions?

What, no Looney Tunes?! What is wrong with you people?? :toetap05:

I loved the looney tunes. Do you know how horrified I was to see Tom & Jerry with sharp knives and axes? I guess I can show my kids that now.

I don't remember all the violence in those shows when I was a kid.

And the booze!! I never noticed how much drinking and smoking went on in those toons, LOL.

We're actually collecting LT DVDs. We feel it is a cultural necessity to have our son watch them. ;)

I looooooooooooved Nanny & the Professor. What a great name for a nanny. And The Ghost and Mrs Muir-- I wanted to live in that house. Think of the discusssion; staying a chaste widow at the same time you're basically having a torrid relationship with a ghost. How conveeeeeeenient.

For older kids, it would be fun to compare the differences between the comedy writers of The Alan Brady Show vs The Tracy Jordan Girly Show. lol

What about a study on Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie compared to That Girl and The Mary Tyler Moore Show? ;)
